However, India skipper Harmanpreet leaped from 21st to 11th, while middle-order batter Rodrigues progressed to 13 in the chart from 15.

McLaren's Rise Faster Than Ferrari's Schumacher Era: Andrea Stella's Bold Claim
Last Updated: McLaren leads the constructors' championship by 268 points, while both their drivers, Piastri and Norris, are vying for the drivers' title. McLaren's recent transformation has been so rapid and effective that its current trajectory may even outpace the legendary Ferrari era under Michael Schumacher, according to team principal Andrea Stella. Speaking on Friday ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Stella reflected on his past with Ferrari and expressed astonishment at the scale and speed of McLaren's resurgence. The Italian, who served as an engineer at Ferrari during Schumacher's dominance in the early 2000s, now leads a McLaren team that is dominating both the drivers' and constructors' championships in 2025. Stella, who joined McLaren in 2015 after more than a decade at Ferrari, emphasized that drawing direct comparisons between eras and teams can be tricky, particularly given his different roles in each organization. However, he admitted that McLaren's current rate of development stands out. 'It's always difficult to compare across seasons," Stella said. 'In this case, we are comparing across teams, and even myself, I was in a very different role, so my field of view, my perspective was very different." During Schumacher's golden run from 2000 to 2004, Ferrari secured five consecutive drivers' titles and six consecutive constructors' championships, with the 2004 season being especially dominant—15 wins from 18 races. McLaren's Dominance in 2025 In stark contrast to their recent struggles, McLaren has surged to the front of the grid in 2025. After finishing fifth in 2022 and fourth in 2023, the team has won 10 of the first 13 races this season and holds a commanding 268-point lead over second-placed Ferrari in the constructors' standings. Their driver duo—Oscar Piastri of Australia and Britain's Lando Norris—are currently locked in a close fight for the drivers' title. Piastri leads Norris by 16 points, while Max Verstappen, the reigning champion and Red Bull ace, trails by a distant 81 points in third place. Despite the commanding lead and consistent performance from his drivers, Stella is unwilling to label the championship battle as a closed contest. 'Definitely not," Stella said when asked about whether Verstappen was out of the Championship race. 'I only agree with mathematics. So once mathematics tells us that's the case, then I'll change my answer." First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Maharaja T20 Looking For Match Venues As Chinnaswamy Yet To Receive Clearance: Report
Last Updated: M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hasn't cleared for Maharaja T20 because of an investigation. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru hasn't received clearance to host the Maharaja T20 tournament, with the Karnataka State Cricket Association now searching for venues to play the tournament at, as Chinnaswamy has been mired in controversy for almost two months now, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo. The Maharaja T20 is all set to take place from August 11 to 27 and the KSCA needs to find venues with 10 days in hand. The police have withheld clearance because of the ongoing investigation into the June 4 stampede that occurred near the stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL winning celebrations. An independent CID investigation into the incident, which left 11 dead and over 50 injured, is still underway. The KSCA is now exploring alternative venues, including its facility in Alur on the outskirts of Bengaluru, as well as the Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru. Although Alur boasts excellent drainage and infrastructure, the lack of floodlights poses a significant challenge for broadcasters. According to the report, Alur is all set to host the group games of the six-day women's T20 competition, the Maharani T20, from August 4. The Karnataka State Cricket Association had been considering hosting the women's final at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but that now appears uncertain as police approval is still pending. As the Karnataka State Cricket Association contends with the prospect of a last-minute venue change, teams have expressed frustration over the financial losses they now stand to incur. Teams had already booked hotels for players and staff based on the assumption that the entire Maharaja T20 would take place in central Bengaluru. Bengaluru is all set to host the opening game of the Women's ODI World Cup, along with one semifinal and the final which has put the state association in massive thought over the pending police case. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. F1: Lando Norris Leads Hungarian GP Practice, Max Verstappen Struggles In 14th
Lando Norris led practice at the Hungarian GP, with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri second. Charles Leclerc was third for Ferrari. Max Verstappen finished 14th. Lando Norris dominated Friday's practice sessions at the Hungarian Grand Prix, setting the fastest times ahead of his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri. The 25-year-old Briton, currently 16 points behind Piastri in the drivers' championship, achieved a best lap of 1:15.624, outpacing the Australian by 0.291 seconds in a closely contested second session at the Hungaroring circuit. Charles Leclerc secured third place for Ferrari, trailing nearly four-tenths behind, while the Aston Martins of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso followed. Lewis Hamilton took sixth in the second Ferrari. George Russell finished seventh for Mercedes, ahead of Racing Bulls' rookie Isack Hadjar, Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda, and Kimi Antonelli in the second Mercedes. Four-time champion Max Verstappen struggled throughout the session, complaining about his car's poor balance and performance, ultimately finishing in 14th place, 1.167 seconds off the pace and three-tenths behind his teammate. Verstappen's frustrations were compounded by a potential investigation into his disposal of a cloth towel from his cockpit during the session. What Happened At Hungarian Grand Prix Practice Sessions? From the outset, Norris and Piastri showed they were not taking the session lightly, exchanging best laps and nearly making contact in a late incident when Norris locked up and Piastri passed him at Turn One. On a bright, dry afternoon, Nico Hulkenberg, having missed the first session to allow reserve driver Paul Aron to drive for Sauber, was the first on track and quickly ran wide, scattering gravel across the track. Norris and Piastri's dominance suggested a McLaren intra-team battle was looming for Sunday's race. Verstappen, down in 10th early on and trailing by a second, described his car's balance as 'driving on ice". Teammate Tsunoda was a tenth faster in ninth. Verstappen's session also featured an unusual incident when he was filmed throwing a cloth from his cockpit, likely leading to a stewards' investigation. Norris had a moment of pressure when he slid wide onto the grass at the final corner but recovered with 15 minutes remaining on used soft tyres. Both he and Piastri switched back to mediums, signalling the end of their quest for the fastest lap. view comments First Published: August 01, 2025, 22:58 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
