Markowski double-double leads Nebraska women to 84-60 win over Rutgers in Big Ten tourney
The Cornhuskers (20-10) face seventh-seeded Illinois, a team they lost to by nine, in the second round on Thursday.
Amiah Hargrove had 13 points and Alberte Rimdahl 12 off the bench for Nebraska, which won 69-62 at Rutgers in their only other meeting this season. Britt Prince added 10 points and five assists. Markowski upped her school record for double-doubles to 51.
Destiny Adams was 13 of 13 from the foul line and led the Scarlet Knights (11-19) with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Awa Sidibe and Mya Petticord both added 11. Rutgers had five 3s and shot 36% after an 8 of 14 fourth quarter when it scored 23 points.
Nebraska shot 55%, including 13 of 31 from 3-point range by eight different players. All four double-figure scorers had two 3s as did Logan Nissley.
Markowski had 14 points in the first half, including five in a late 11-0 surge in the first quarter that helped the Cornhuskers take a 22-13 lead. Markowski, Prince and Hargrove each had a 3 in the run and Nebraska, which averages eight a game, had eight triples at halftime.
Rimdal and Markowski both had their second 3s in the second quarter as the lead stretched to 39-24.
Nebraska got a couple of early 3s in the second half and closed the third quarter with eight-straight points for a 61-37 lead.

Spurs' Dylan Harper to miss California Classic with 'minor' injury
No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper will not play with the San Antonio Spurs in the California Classic due to a minor groin issue, according to Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio News-Express. The Spurs made the announcement following their first practice ahead of the event, which begins on Saturday in San Francisco. He will travel with the Spurs for their three-game stint and is hopeful of playing in the NBA Summer League, beginning July 10 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite the setback, Harper made an impression on the team in its first organized session ahead of summer league. The team is eager to have him available to play. "It is minor, so he is doing OK," Spurs assistant coach Mike Noyes said. "He has been on the court. He has been a terrific teammate. You can already hear his vocal leadership, so we're excited. Whenever he does rejoin us, we'll be ready to take him with open arms." Harper was a third-team All-American honorable mention by the AP last season at Rutgers, averaging 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, four assists and 1.4 steals. He registered 20 20-point games, setting the Rutgers single-season scoring record by a freshman (564 points). The 19-year-old was considered the consensus choice as the second pick and the best player in the draft behind Cooper Flagg, who went first to the Dallas Mavericks. He was a consensus five-star prospect and lived up to the hype with a sensational freshman campaign. Harper has drawn comparisons to Cade Cunningham as a bigger guard who can score, play with physicality and see the court well. He is just looking to ingratiate himself well and help the team break its six-year playoff drought in any role asked of him by new coach Mitch Johnson.

NEW YORK – Dylan Harper stepped to the dais for NBA Draft media day and fielded questions about the first player jersey he ever owned ('besides my father's, Paul George'), whether he's in touch with his Filipino side ('I would like get out there sometime and rep') and what he thinks of Southwestern cuisine ('I've had a breakfast taco, it's not as good as a bagel, egg and cheese but it's close'). There were more questions, but you get the idea. The softballs kept coming, and Harper was having a blast swinging away. He was grilled, fastball after fastball, and although Bailey tried his best to be good natured, it seemed like torture. Now that the NBA Draft has came and went, the next process of the offseason is the NBA 2K26 Summer League games. For the Garden State, the majority of eyes will be set on the two Top 5 picks that hail from Rutgers - San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper, who was drafted No. 2, and Utah Jazz's No. 5 Ace Bailey. Eyes are set on Bailey to make an immediate impact within the franchise.
