Tengku Zafrul joining PKR may draw wider support for party's reformist agenda, says Youth chief
He said this aligned with PKR's commitment to continue offering politics based on ideas, expertise and integrity.
'His experience is seen as capable of bringing added value to KEADILAN (PKR),' he said in a post on X yesterday.
Muhammad Kamil, who is also the political secretary to the Finance Minister, believes PKR's openness in accepting professional figures proves that the party is constantly evolving as a mature platform and is ready to lead Malaysia's future.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Kamil said the application process to join PKR must follow established procedures, as outlined by the party's secretary-general.
Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation as an UMNO Supreme Council Member, UMNO Kota Raja Division Chief, and an UMNO member to join PKR.
His decision, however, has drawn various reactions, including from Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, who urged that UMNO's quota of seven ministerial posts be reinstated following Tengku Zafrul's resignation from the party.
Ahmad Zahid confirmed today that UMNO executive secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan had received the official resignation letter from Tengku Zafrul.
However, PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh said earlier today that the party had yet to receive any official membership application from Tengku Zafrul. — Bernama

Fadillah: Federal govt allocates RM8.79b to roll out 86 projects under 12MP in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU, July 14 — The federal government, through the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra), has allocated RM8.79 billion until June 2025 to implement 86 development projects in Sabah. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, stated that the total allocation will be disbursed under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). 'Sabah has received a fairly large allocation from the federal government ... it is our commitment to resolve two key issues in Sabah: water and energy. 'Turun Anwar rally is more significant than ICERD protest for it concerns bread and butter, survival matters'
FORMER UMNO supreme council member Isham Jalil seems to have struck the chord with many man-on-the-street Malaysians as he rallied 'original UMNO' members to turn up in full force at the July 26 Turun Anwar gathering in Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. His killer line that has inadvertently enabled the PAS-initiated rally gained even more momentum was that the issues to be raised at the Turun Anwar rally 'are of the same proportion if not bigger than ICERD' for they revolve around the livelihood and well-being of every ordinary Malaysian. 'At least the issues raised during ICERD only centred on our identity and had no bearing on bread and butter matters such as how to put food on the table,' he articulated with zest in a Facebook video which has since fetched 25K likes, 1.9K comments, 3.2K shares and 435K views. '(The) current leaders couldn't care less, they go overseas negotiate while the country is saddled with billions in debts.' DBKL shuts waste site, boosts monkey control after King's rebuke over Jalan Gallagher mess
KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — City Hall (DBKL) said it launched immediate clean-up operations along Jalan Gallagher here following a royal rebuke from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, over cleanliness and wildlife issues in the area. The King had raised concerns about uncollected rubbish, clogged drains and the presence of wild monkeys along the road, prompting swift intervention from the local authority. DBKL said it had ordered contractors SWCorp and Alam Flora to intensify cleaning work in the area and increase the frequency of waste collection. 'DBKL offers its deepest gratitude to His Majesty for his concern. DBKL is committed to ensuring the cleanliness, well-being, and comfort of city residents remain a priority through continuous monitoring and swift action with related agencies,' it said in a statement. A temporary waste collection site identified as the main source of filth and monkey infestation has been ordered shut. Cleaning teams have carried out drain flushing, roadside sweeping, tree pruning and removal of rotten branches, along with grass cutting and general landscape tidying. DBKL is also introducing new, sturdier rubbish bins designed to withstand animal interference and will provide individual bins to households for direct waste collection. The council said these measures aim to reduce exposed waste, which has been a key attractant for wild animals. DBKL is working closely with the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) to address the recurring monkey problem in the area. Perhilitan previously installed traps near rubbish bins and official residences including Istana Negara, and will now expand trapping operations and patrols.
