Among these is a Constantia estate in Cape Town valued at R28.9 million, which he previously claimed was owned by his son-in-law's company. The other is a Waterfall property in Midrand, reportedly valued at R37 million. Within a year, Mashatile has declared at least two high-value properties, including the Constantia estate he once denied owning. The declarations have intensified public debate around the wealth of public servants and the transparency of their financial disclosures. These declarations came as members of Parliament made their latest financial disclosures public through the June 2025 Register of Members' Interests. 'People must read. That's the first thing you must learn in life. There's nothing in Parliament that I said I own a house. I said I live there. That house is owned by my son-in-law. It's a very simple thing to read. So what's the problem?'

Mashatile is in hot water over undecleared diamond gift
JOHANNESBURG - The Parliaments Joint Committee on Ethics has taken aim at Deputy President Paul Mashatile. This as the committee has recommended that Deputy President Paul Mashatile be fined R10,000 for failing to disclose a diamond that was gifted to his wife by businessman Louis Liebenberg. Mashatile claimed that he was waiting for an appraisal before declaring it and has since handed it over to the National Prosecuting Authority.

Parliament announces members of ad hoc committee investigating Mkhwanazi allegations
The EFF's Julius Malema is among those who have called on the public to provide information that will lead to the dismantling of criminality. Parliament has announced the members of the ad hoc committee that will investigate allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi about security matters. This after the National Assembly (NA) adopted the joint report of the portfolio committee on police and the portfolio committee on justice and constitutional development on the allegations made by Mkhwanazi on 23 July. The two committees have requested the process to be concluded within 90 days of the committee being instituted, provided that the timeframe may be amended or extended if necessary. 'As far as possible, meetings should be conducted openly and, whenever possible, broadcast on Parliament TV and its social media channels,' said the two committees during their joint sitting last month.
