Bahrain Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Gulf-EU Relations in Key Parliamentary Meeting
Bahrain's Speaker of the Parliament, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, has underlined the Kingdom's commitment—under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to deepening ties between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the European Union. His remarks came during a high-level parliamentary meeting held in Abu Dhabi on Monday, where Gulf parliamentary leaders met with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
In his speech, Al-Musallam highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation between the two regions across political, economic, legislative, and security fronts. He stressed that enhanced parliamentary dialogue would help build stronger bridges of understanding and lead to more effective partnerships, including modern initiatives in digital transformation and sustainable supply chains.
'Stronger parliamentary ties mean more meaningful cooperation,' Al-Musallam said. 'This includes working towards a balanced and effective free trade agreement between the GCC and the European Union.'
He noted that the Gulf countries have proven their ability to deliver on key development goals—whether in economic growth, regional security, or promoting human rights, tolerance, and youth empowerment. These are values, he said, that align closely with those of the European Union, opening new doors for collaboration.
Reflecting on the first-ever GCC-EU summit held in Brussels last October, Al-Musallam described it as a historic milestone that set the stage for a new era of partnership. 'We are here today to build on that foundation,' he said. 'This meeting is an opportunity to push forward with joint efforts to tackle global challenges and advance shared priorities.'
Touching on current regional crises, Al-Musallam expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire and urgent international action to deliver aid and support a two-state solution for lasting peace.
He also warned of the broader risks posed by recent Israeli strikes on Iran, saying such escalations could destabilize the entire region, threaten global energy markets, and endanger maritime routes. He urged the international community to act swiftly to de-escalate tensions.
'Only through diplomacy and dialogue can we hope to reach peaceful solutions that respect international law and the sovereignty of all nations,' Al-Musallam stated. 'Military escalation will only bring more instability and suffering.'
The Bahraini delegation to the meeting included MP Ahmed Sabah Al-Salloom, Shura Council member Ijlal Isa Bubshait, and Secretary-General of the House of Representatives Mohammed Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, who also serves as Secretary of the Parliamentary Division's Executive Committee.
This gathering marks another step in strengthening the role of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing regional and international issues, reinforcing Bahrain's active role in promoting peace, cooperation, and mutual progress.

Trump hails new ‘Alligator Alcatraz' migrant detention center
TDT | Ochopee Trump hails new 'Alligator Alcatraz' migrant detention center Ochopee, United States US President Donald Trump reveled in a new Florida migrant detention center dubbed 'Alligator Alcatraz' Tuesday, joking that any escapees would be taught to run away from the reptiles to avoid being eaten. Critics of Trump's harsh immigration crackdown have called the site in the Everglades swamp inhumane, but the Republican embraced the controversy as he attended its official opening. 'A lot of cops in the form of alligators -- you don't have to pay them so much,' Trump told reporters in Ochopee, Florida. 'I wouldn't want to run through the Everglades for long. It will keep people where they're supposed to be.' The Florida detention center is part of the Trump administration's tough optics for its crackdown on undocumented migrants since the 78-year-old returned to power in January. The site on an abandoned airfield in the Everglades conservation area will cost an estimated $450 million and house 1,000 people, Florida authorities say. Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, who greeted Trump on the tarmac, said 'we want to cut through bureaucracy... to get the removal of these illegals done.' 'Run away' Trump, who has cracked down on undocumented migrants since returning to power, riffed on the idea of people running away from Florida wildlife as he left the White House earlier. 'I guess that's the concept,' Trump told reporters when asked if the idea behind the detention center was that people who escaped from it would get eaten by alligators or snakes. 'This is not a nice business. Snakes are fast, but alligators... we're going to teach them how to run away from an alligator, okay? 'If they escape prison, how to run away. Don't run in a straight line. Run like this. And you know what? Your chances go up about one percent.' But Trump later embarked on one of his dark diatribes about immigration in a news conference at the site, describing an influx of undocumented migrants under Democratic predecessor Joe Biden as 'disgusting' and falsely conflating most migrants with 'sadistic' criminal gangs. The name 'Alligator Alcatraz' is a reference to Alcatraz Island, the former prison in San Franciso that Trump recently said he wanted to reopen. That plan has apparently stalled after officials said it would cost too much and be too impractical to reopen the prison surrounded by shark-infested waters. As it seeks to look tough on migration, the Trump administration is also sending some undocumented migrants to the former 'War on Terror' prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

Trump: Israel Agrees to 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire, Urges Hamas to Accept Final Deal
Email : editor@ US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Israel has agreed to key conditions for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, calling on Hamas to accept what he described as a final opportunity to halt the ongoing war. In a post on social media, Trump said his team had met with Israeli officials ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington next week. 'Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60-Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,' Trump wrote. He added that Qatar and Egypt, acting as mediators, would deliver the ceasefire proposal to Hamas. 'I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE,' he warned. Earlier in the day, Trump said he would be 'very firm' with Netanyahu during their scheduled meeting on July 7. Ceasefire Opportunity Emerges Post-Iran Conflict The window for a potential truce comes after the conclusion of a 12-day war between Israel and Iran, which was triggered by a US bombing mission targeting Tehran's nuclear sites. Trump is eager to secure another diplomatic breakthrough, adding to recent peace accords brokered under his leadership. Fighting in Gaza Intensifies Despite diplomatic efforts, Israeli operations in Gaza continued with deadly results. Gaza's civil defense agency reported that at least 26 Palestinians were killed on Tuesday, as Israeli forces carried out intensified strikes across northern and southern regions. An Israeli army spokesperson told AFP they were 'operating to dismantle Hamas military capabilities,' confirming expanded operations across the Gaza Strip, which included the destruction of hundreds of Hamas infrastructure sites. Raafat Halles, a resident of Gaza City's Shujaiya district, described the situation as dire: 'Air strikes and shelling have intensified over the past week. I believe every time a ceasefire is mentioned, the army escalates crimes on the ground,' he said. AFP journalists witnessed Israeli tanks deployed along the Gaza border and civilians rummaging through the rubble of destroyed homes. In Gaza hospitals, scenes of mourning unfolded as families grieved over the bodies of their loved ones. Humanitarian Crisis Deepens The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) raised alarms over the growing toll on civilians and the near-collapse of medical services in Gaza. 'Nearly all public hospitals are shut down or gutted due to months of hostilities and supply restrictions,' the ICRC said. Gaza's civil defense reported 16 people killed near aid distribution sites on Tuesday, with another 10 killed elsewhere. The Israeli military claimed it had fired only warning shots at suspects near troops and denied targeting aid centers. Aid Distribution Controversy A coalition of 169 aid agencies has criticized the current US- and Israeli-backed aid distribution model in Gaza, blaming it for civilian deaths. They have called for a return to the UN-led mechanism that operated before March, when Israel imposed a complete blockade during earlier truce talks. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), now overseeing aid, has denied responsibility for the deaths near its centers. Netanyahu's Upcoming Visit Netanyahu confirmed plans to visit Washington for talks with Trump and senior US security officials as international pressure mounts to end the war and secure the release of remaining hostages. Speaking from a migrant detention center in Florida, Trump said Netanyahu also wants an end to the fighting. A senior Hamas official, Taher al-Nunu, told AFP the group was open to accepting any proposal that leads to 'a permanent ceasefire and complete withdrawal of occupation forces,' but added, 'So far, there has been no breakthrough.'
