South Africa announce squad for T20I Tri-Series against New Zealand & Zimbabwe
Cape Town, June 26 (UNI) South Africa have announced a 14-player squad for the upcoming T20I
tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand, scheduled to be played in Harare from July 14 to 26.
Rassie van der Dussen, who has 50 T20I caps, will take charge of the South Africa squad that features four uncapped players for the upcoming shortest-format outings.
Corbin Bosch, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Rubin Hermann and Senuran Muthusamy have all received maiden call-ups after strong domestic performances.
Pretorius was the standout performer in the 2025 edition of the SA20, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 397 runs at a strike rate of 166.
Wicket-keeper-batter Rubin Hermann was also impressive, scoring 333 runs at an average of 41.43.
Bosch, who has already featured for the Proteas in ODIs and Tests, played a key role in MI Cape Town's title win in the SA20 earlier this year, while Muthusamy adds to South Africa's depth as a
spin-bowling all-rounder.
The squad also features the return of Dewald Brevis, fast bowlers Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee following their respective injury layoffs. The trio bolsters a strong bowling unit that also includes Lungi Ngidi, who was part of the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 triumph and emerging pacer Kwena Maphaka, according to an ICC news.
Head coach Shukri Conrad, who takes charge of his first T20I assignment since being appointed to the all-format role, said the series marks the beginning of South Africa's preparations for the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
'With several senior players rested as part of their workload management, it creates opportunities for others to step in and show what they can offer,' said Conrad.
'This is a chance for us to build depth and see how these players cope with international demands,'
he said.
The squad will assemble in Pretoria on 9 July for a two-day preparatory camp before departing for Harare on 11 July. The tri-series begins with South Africa facing hosts Zimbabwe on 14 July.
Tri-series fixtures:
July 14 - Zimbabwe v South Africa
July 16 - South Africa v New Zealand
July 18 - Zimbabwe v New Zealand

MS Dhoni Makes Big Move, Applies For 'Captain Cool' Trademark
Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has filed a trademark application for the phrase 'CAPTAIN COOL', a sobriquet widely associated with his calm on-field demeanour. According to the Trade Marks Registry portal, the application's status is 'accepted and advertised'. It was published in the official trademark journal on June 16. The application was filed on June 5. The proposed trademark is registered under the category for sports training, providing sports training facilities, sports coaching and services. No comments could immediately be obtained from Dhoni. Interestingly, another company, Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Pvt Ltd, had earlier filed a similar application for the phrase. However, that application's status is showing as 'rectification filed'. Earlier this month, Dhoni was inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame for the year 2025 along with seven cricketers, including Australian great Matthew Hayden and South Africa's Hashim Amla. The ICC hailed Dhoni as a player who excelled not just in numbers but also in "extraordinary consistency, fitness and longevity". "Celebrated for his calm under pressure and unmatched tactical nous, but also a trailblazer in the shorter formats, MS Dhoni's legacy as one of the game's greatest finishers, leaders and wicketkeepers has been honoured with his induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame," the ICC statement had said. MS Dhoni files for trademark on his iconic cricket moniker 'Captain Cool'
Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has applied for a trademark on the moniker 'Captain Cool'. According to public records from the Intellectual Property India database, Dhoni submitted the application on June 5, 2023. The status of the trademark now shows 'accepted and advertised', indicating that it has passed preliminary scrutiny and is now open for opposition before final registration. The term 'Captain Cool' has long been associated with Dhoni, owing to his calm demeanour under pressure during crucial cricketing moments. The proposed trademark is registered under the category for 'sports training, providing sports training facilities, [and] sports coaching services'. Interestingly, another entity — Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Private Limited — had previously applied for the same term under Class 41 in July 2021. However, that application is currently marked with the status 'rectification filed', possibly due to a conflict or opposition, opening the way for Dhoni's claim. MS Dhoni joins elite ICC list MS Dhoni was formally inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame earlier this month during a ceremony in London, becoming the 11th Indian cricketer to receive the distinguished recognition. The former India skipper, who led the team to two World Cup titles, joins an elite list of cricketing greats. Dhoni is still the only captain in the history of the game to have clinched all three major ICC white-ball trophies — the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. As a batter, Dhoni redefined the finisher's role in One-Day Internationals. His unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka in 2005 remains the highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs. With over 10,000 runs in the format and an average exceeding 50, his contribution with the bat was both consistent and impactful. Equally formidable behind the stumps, Dhoni brought a new level of speed and precision to wicketkeeping, setting benchmarks with his quick glove work. Over the course of his career, he featured in 538 international matches for India, amassing 17,266 runs and 829 dismissals.
