Eric Dane's ‘Countdown' Co-Stars Say He's Handling ALS Diagnosis With ‘Grace and Dignity': ‘He Wants Other People to Know They're Not Alone'

Eric Dane is being praised by his 'Countdown' co-stars for how he's handling his ALS diagnosis and using his platform to help others. Dane went public with his illness in April. 'I'm proud as hell at how he's handling it with such grace [and] dignity,' Jensen Ackles told me at the Amazon MGM show's Los Angeles premiere. 'I had no doubt that he was going to handle it this way. I couldn't be more proud of him. He knows I love him and support him with anything he needs.' 'I feel good,' Dane told me after posing for photos on the red carpet with his filmmaker girlfriend Janell Shirtcliff. 'It's nice to be here with everybody and see the hours and hours of work that we put into this come alive on screen.' Show creator and executive producer Derek Haas said, 'I wasn't surprised at how honest and open he is and how he puts others in front of himself, which is exactly the Eric that I know. He wants other people to know that they're not alone if they get this diagnosis.' 'Countdown' follows an LAPD detective (Ackles) who joins a secret government task force headed by Dane's character to try and stop a terrorist attack on Los Angeles. Jessica Camacho, who plays agent Amber Oliveras, said the cast and crew have become a 'family.' But she also admitted being 'terrified' when she first walked on set to work with Dane. 'He has this power about him,' Camacho said. 'He has this quiet confidence and it's beautiful on camera. I was properly petrified but then five minutes in, I saw his warmth, I saw his playfulness, his charisma and it just became so comfortable and so at ease and we're just such a work family.' Dane talked extensively about living with ALS with Diane Sawyer during a June 16 interview on 'Good Morning America.' 'My left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working,' the actor said, noting that his left arm has been getting weaker as well. 'I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won't have my left hand either. It's sobering.' The former 'Grey's Anatomy' star was in Washington on Monday at U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy's news conference announcing that several health insurance companies are going to simplify and reduce prior authorizations over the next 18 months. 'When that diagnosis hits and you find out that you're sick, your life becomes filled with great uncertainty and that worst that we can do is add even more uncertainty for patients and their loved ones with unnecessary prior authorization,' Dane said. 'Anything we can do to give patients more certainty with fewer delays is a worthwhile endeavor.' Eric Dane Debuted New Girlfriend Despite Marriage To Rebecca Gayheart

Since revealing his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis in April, Eric Dane has made it clear that his relationship with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, is his number one priority. ALS, which is sometimes referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease or motor neurone disease, impacts nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing patients to gradually lose the ability to walk, speak, eat, and breathe on their own, while their thinking ability remains the same. There is currently no known cure for ALS, and the life expectancy after diagnosis usually ranges between three and five years, although some people live for decades. 'I mean, I really, at the end of the day, just, all I want to do is spend time with my family and work a little bit if I can,' he told Diane Sawyer during an emotional segment on Good Morning America last week, in which he also broke down in tears while talking about Rebecca, whom he married in 2004. 'I talk to her every day,' he said. 'We have managed to become better friends and better parents. And she is probably my biggest champion, my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her.' If you heard about these quotes, you may have also been a little confused when, just a few days later, Eric appeared to debut his relationship with filmmaker Janell Shirtcliff at the premiere of his new show, Countdown. Eric and Janell posed hand-in-hand on the red carpet on Wednesday, and a source told Entertainment Tonight that same day that they have been 'in an on-and-off relationship' for more than three years. 'Eric asked Janell to be there for him during this time, and she wanted to show up for him,' the insider added. You're probably wondering, 'Is this the same guy who was just talking about his wife on national TV?' Well, yes, you'd be correct. Eric and Rebecca are technically still married, although it sounds like their relationship has taken on a new form in the past few years. As previously mentioned, Eric and Rebecca tied the knot in 2004, had two kids, and stayed happily married until 2018, when Rebecca filed for divorce. Years passed, the divorce proceedings never moved forward, and, by 2023, people began to suspect the pair were getting back together. Fast forward to March this year, and Rebecca requested to dismiss her divorce filing after seven years. It was only a month later, in April, that Eric's ALS diagnosis was made public. While giving an update on their marriage during an interview with E! News around the same time, Rebecca clarified that they're still married and 'best of friends,' without suggesting that they're romantically involved. 'We are really close. We are great coparents. We really figured out the formula to staying a family, and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it, and we are as well,' she said, before going into more detail. 'I think it's important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It's just a season. It wasn't a failure. It was a huge success. We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that's a successful relationship, and that's how we look at it.' The details are still a little fuzzy, but based on Rebecca's comments — and the fact that she recently referred to him as her "ex-husband" on IG — it sounds like she and Eric, though legally married, are not together romantically. As for Janell, it would make sense that she and Eric began dating a few years ago when he and Rebecca were separated, as per the ET reports. To make matters more confusing, Eric has also been rumored to be dating Priya Jain, with whom he's been photographed numerous times since they were first linked in November 2024. They were last seen looking cozy together a month ago, so not exactly clear what's going on here. Last Thursday, an anonymous source alleged to Page Six that Priya was 'blindsided' by Eric and Janell's red carpet debut. As always, we'll take the anonymous sourcing with a grain of salt. Needless to say, it sounds like a very complicated time. But we'll be sure to let you know if we get any updates.

Shocking Celebrity Interview Revelations June 22 2025

Will Smith turned down the lead role in Inception because he didn't understand the plot. Jason Isaacs — who, if nothing else, loves to give a dramatic quote — said that he once worked with a "global icon" who was "the worst bully ever." "Did all the old tricks of doing a completely different performance off-camera than on," he told Vulture. "Yeah, it sucked. I'd never seen anything like it. Before, I would've licked the ground that this person walked on.' But who was he talking about?!? Eric Dane revealed that, shortly after his ALS diagnosis, one of his daughters had to rescue him from almost drowning in the ocean. 'When I jumped in the ocean that day and realized I couldn't swim [or] generate enough power to get myself back to the boat, I thought, 'Oh, God,'' he told Good Morning America. 'And then I realized in that moment I'm not safe in the water anymore.' Rebel Wilson was almost permanently disfigured in a freak accident on the set of her latest film Bride Hard. 'In a fight scene, a gun accidentally got whacked across my face,' she told Access Hollywood. 'It was just a freak accident, and my nose got split open, so I left set. It was really my last night of shooting. I was like, 'How unlucky can I be?'' Hilaria Baldwin says that she regularly takes her kids to cemeteries to teach them about death. 'I think I bring my kids to cemeteries a lot,' she said on an episode of Kate and Oliver Hudson's Sibling Revelry podcast. 'Once you become a parent, I think that's how fragile life can be; it comes into my fears all the time. But I really feel like we spend time in cemeteries and everything from the history of it, and just also acknowledging, this is part of life.' Drake revealed that he recently lost $8 million in gambling — in just one month. Yes, you read that correctly. Anthony Ramos called out Madonna for allegedly being on her iPad during a performance of Hamilton. JoJo Siwa said she felt "pressured" to come out as a lesbian. "When I came out at 17, I said: 'I'm pansexual, because I don't care [about gender],'" she told the Daily Mail. "But then I kind of boxed myself in and I said: 'I'm a lesbian.' And I think I did that because of pressure." And finally, Lizzo admitted to using Ozempic during her "weight release" journey. "I tried everything," she told Trisha Paytas. "Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full. But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same item."
