Rolls-Royce raises profit and cash flow outlook after strong H1
The company, whose engines power Airbus's widebody planes and some Boeing 787s, increased the top end of its operating profit guidance by £300 million (S$515.2 million) to £3.2 billion and its free cash flow by £200 million to £3.1 billion.
Chief executive Tufan Erginbilgic, who has turned around Rolls-Royce since joining at the start of 2023, said his multi-year transformation was continuing to deliver.
'Our actions led to strong first half year results, despite the challenges of the supply chain and tariffs,' he said.
He said Rolls had improved the time its engines spend 'on wing', that is powering planes before needing maintenance – a key demand from its airline customers – and had improved the profitability of its maintenance services.
Its power systems business had also grown by winning business from data centre and government customers, he said.

Shares in Rolls have soared since Erginbilgic joined, reaching a new all-time closing high of 1,010 pence earlier this month.
They are up 74 per cent year-to-date against a 12 per cent rise in the FTSE 100.
In its civil aerospace business, Rolls said it had renegotiated all of its original equipment contacts and its most onerous aftermarket contracts, boosting operating profit and cash flow in the mid-term.
It is increasing the durability of its large engines to deliver a more than 80 per cent improvement in time-on-wing for its modern Trent engines by 2027.
The company, which also has a defence business, reported underlying operating profit of £1.7 billion for the first half, against £1.1 billion a year earlier, with an operating margin of 19.1 per cent, up from 14.0 per cent. REUTERS

Airbus said to deliver fewer aircraft in July amid engine woes
[NEW YORK] Airbus delivered about 63 aircraft last month, roughly 18 per cent fewer than during the same month a year ago, as a shortage of engines on its best-selling A320neo model hampered handovers to customers, sources familiar with the matter said. The world's biggest planemaker has delivered around 370 planes in the first seven months of 2025, less than half its annual goal. July delivery figures are preliminary and could change slightly, the sources cautioned, asking not to be identified discussing confidential data. An Airbus spokesperson declined to comment on the July tally ahead of the official publication of figures next week. Deliveries are closely watched by investors because that is when airline customers pay over the bulk of the money for an aircraft order. This week, Airbus's chief executive officer Guillaume Faury said that while the company continued to maintain its full-year guidance of around 820 handovers, supply chain issues would push out the bulk of the deliveries into the second half of the year. By comparison, Airbus delivered 77 jets in July a year ago, taking seven-month handovers to 400 at that point. The company had 60 so-called gliders, newly built aircraft on the ground without engines, at the end of June, a number it aims to eradicate by the end of the year, Airbus management said on an earnings call on Wednesday. Boeing has been ramping up production of its competing 737 Max jet and has been catching up to its European rival. It was neck-and-neck with Airbus at the half-year mark, with 280 deliveries versus 306 at the European planemaker. The US planemaker has been working to return its factories to a steadier tempo. It's also cushioned by a surplus of inventory as a consequence of a strike in late 2024 and its decision earlier in the year to slow production to address quality shortfalls after a door-shaped panel blew out of an airborne 737 Max. Barclays latest British lender to quit climate banking alliance
[LONDON] Barclays has become the latest British lender to quit the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), the bank said on Friday (Aug 1), arguing that the departure of several global lenders has left it no longer fit to support the bank's green transition. Barclays' decision to quit the foremost banking alliance focused on tackling climate change follows that of HSBC and several major US banks and raises questions about the ability of the group to influence change in the sector going forward. 'After consideration, we have decided to withdraw from the Net Zero Banking Alliance,' the bank said. The bank added that its commitment to be net zero by 2050 remained unchanged and that it still saw a commercial opportunity for itself and its clients in the energy transition. Earlier this week, Barclays published the first update on its sustainability strategy in several years and said that it made £500 million (S$857 million) in revenue from sustainable and low-carbon transition finance in 2024. A spokesperson for the alliance said that it remains focused on 'supporting its members to lead on climate by addressing the barriers preventing their clients from investing in the net-zero transition.' The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court issued the decision on Tuesday in the case brought by LGBTQ rights alliance ECADE on behalf of a gay couple. The court ruled that sections of the criminal code that outlawed "buggery" and "gross indecency" were unconstitutional. "Our own courts are now recognizing that these colonial-era laws are incompatible with human dignity," Dane Lewis, regional program manager at rights group CariFLAGS, said. Many Caribbean countries still have laws forbidding intimacy between people of the same sex, a legacy of British colonial-era statutes.
