Packers president shares message with fans amid retirement
With his 70th birthday approaching on July 13, Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy is wrapping up his final days before retiring. Before handing the job over to executive Ed Policy, Murphy sent a heartfelt message to the team's fan base.

During his final week of work, Murphy penned a farewell message he titled 'Hasta la Vista, Baby!' that got posted on the team website. The letter expressed gratitude for his life journey, from entering the league as an undrafted free agent to becoming the president and CEO of a team with 'the best fans in professional sports.'
'As I head into retirement, I want to thank all our fans for their great support of the team,' Murphy wrote. 'Because of our fans, serving as President of the Packers is the best job in the NFL. It has been an honor and a privilege to work for you.'
The Packers are the only team in the league without a singular owner. The organization instead gives ownership to the taxpayers of Green Bay, allowing the city and fans to be the 'owners' of the team. Due to this structure, the Packers refer to themselves as a publicly owned, non-profit organization.
The Packers require all their executives to retire by the age of 70, which made the 2024 season the final one of Murphy's career. Following an extensive decision-making process, they opted to hand the job to Policy, 54, who has been on the team's board since 2012.

Packers look to build on momentum in 2025

Before retiring, Murphy got to enjoy the 2025 NFL Draft, which was held in Green Bay for the first time. Murphy was part of the team that pushed for and secured the return of the draft to Wisconsin. In one of his final acts as president, Murphy welcomed the team's first-round pick, Matthew Golden, on stage after Roger Goodell announced the selection.
The Packers aim to sustain their momentum under their new management, which will begin with the 2025 season. Green Bay is coming off an 11-6 campaign in 2024, its best record since going 13-4 in 2021.
Golden will be one of the few additions to the Packers' roster, as most of the team's players return. Jordan Love, Josh Jacobs, Jayden Reed, Tucker Kraft and Elgton Jenkins headline the returning offensive players. Rashan Gary, Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie and Xavier McKinney all return defensively.

Oxnard Observations: Cowboys first two days from camp offer intriguing possibilities
Typically, nothing revalatory happens in the first week of training camp. It's a bunch of players walking through plays without pads, and not much to note as it's normally a continuation of installation from the OTAs. That, however, was not the case for the Cowboys across the first two days of camp. The changes under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer have been noticeable. "We're gonna be multiple. We're gonna be under center. We're gonna be in shotgun. We're gonna run the pistol. We're gonna run some wildcat. We're gonna be very difficult to defend." Following Monday's practice, content creator Voch Lombardi spoke about how the team utilized motion and shifts in 90% of plays, and employed play-action with quarterback Dak Prescott under center much more frequently than under former head coach Mike McCarthy. KaVontae Turpin has already shown his versatility on offense on Tuesday. Lined up as a running back, he took his first touch for a big play that would've gone for a touchdown in an actual game. He was also thrown a wide receiver quick screen and connected on a deep ball down the sideline. Also on Tuesday, second-year defensive end Marshawn Kneeland started in an impactful way. He had a sack and an interception off of quarterback Dak Prescott, and returned it for a touchdown. The tight end room has had a mix of good and bad across the two days. They made plenty of plays in the opening days of camp, but were also part of the first scuffle in camp and had a drop. They made the entire room drop for pushups. Jake Ferguson and Brevyn Spann-Ford had big plays over the middle, and Spann-Ford had another big play during an off-script play. Jevonte Williams and Miles Sanders were with the first team at running back, with Jaydon Blue on the second team and Phil Mafah and Deuce Vaughn on the third team. It's hard to judge running backs when there's no pads on with no tackling, but the pecking orders become telling of the coaches' expectations. Report: Titans agree to terms with LB Jihad Ward
The Titans are signing linebacker Jihad Ward, Jordan Schultz reports. He played all 17 games for the Vikings last season, starting two, and seeing action on 467 defensive snaps and 78 on special teams. Ward totaled 10 tackles, 14 quarterback hits and a sack. The Titans will be his seventh team since the Raiders drafted him in the second round in 2016. Ward, 31, has 168 tackles, 19 sacks, 73 quarterback hits, eight passes defensed and three forced fumbles in his career. He has played all 17 games in each of the past four seasons.

MLS commissioner discusses season shift, Messi absence before All-Star game
Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber says the league continues to look at shifting to a fall-to-spring season, saying he'd 'rather get it right and take our time than get it wrong and do it quick.' Garber spoke before Wednesday night's MLS All-Star game in Austin, Texas. He also spoke about the league's Apple TV streaming deal and the sale of the Vancouver Whitecaps in his state of the league address before the game. While he was peppered with questions about the calendar, looming large over the match between MLS and Liga MX All-Stars was the absence of Inter Miami star Lionel Messi. Currently MLS plays a spring-to-late fall season. A shift to align the league with its international counterparts would make MLS teams more competitive in the player transfer market, while also freeing up players for national team duty during the summer, when many major global tournaments take place. But there are obvious challenges, like weather. 'Making this change is seismic. It's not something we should do lightly. We obviously have teams across multiple climate zones, multiple time zones, unlike any other league in the world, and if we do make the change, we're not going to go back on that decision," Garber said. The MLS Board of Governors announced in April that it was giving further consideration to the shift, but gave no timeline. Garber suggested there would be an announcement by the end of the year. Messi Suspension? Garber declined to say whether Messi or Inter Miami teammate Jordi Alba would face suspension for missing the All-Star game, as league rules have dictated in the past. Miami's next match is Saturday against FC Cincinnati in Fort Lauderdale. Whitecaps Sale The Whitecaps announced in December that the team was for sale. Greg Kerfoot has been owner of the club since 2002, when it was part of the North American Soccer League. Steve Luczo, Jeff Mallett and former NBA star Steve Nash joined Kerfoot in 2008, and the Whitecaps became part of MLS in 2011. Garber said there are no plans to move the club, although the Whitecaps need a new stadium. Currently, Vancouver plays at the multi-purpose BC Place, which is also the home of the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. Apple Deal As for the league's streaming deal with Apple, Garber said MLS is working with the company to provide fans greater access. Distribution through cable and satellite services this season has helped. Metrics for viewership have been hard to come by because there's no system to determine exactly how people are 'viewing and consuming' games via a subscription service, Garber said.
