Holder Thailand to join Japan and others for LPGA International Crown
Australia, Japan, China and Sweden also booked a place in the Oct. 23-26 match-play event at New Korea Country Club in South Korea.
The four top-ranked golfers from each qualified nation after the Women's British Open on Aug. 4 will compete for their homeland in the International Crown.
An eighth squad, the World Team, will include the top-ranked player not from an already qualified nation from each of four regions — Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa/Oceania — based on points as of Aug. 4.
The Thai squad of Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn, Patty Tavatanakit and Jeeno Thitikul won the most recent Crown in 2023 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
Spain won the inaugural 2014 title with the Americans taking the 2016 triumph and South Korea winning in 2018 before the 2020 event was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I was able to quickly switch my mind and play," she said. "I managed to perform really well, but it's only the first day. You never know what's going to happen on this course." The 22-year-old won her first title of her rookie LPGA season at the Blue Bay LPGA tournament in China in March before finishing second in the second major of the year in May at the U.S. Women's Open. Hinako Shibuno, the 2019 Women's British Open champion, struggled to a 75 and sits tied for 105th.

Chargers rout Lions in Hall of Fame Game to kick off NFL preseason
Los Angeles Chargers backup quarterback Trey Lance kicked off the NFL preseason in style, throwing two touchdown passes while leading his team to a 34-7 rout of the Detroit Lions in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday. Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin requests trade
Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has requested a trade, according to multiple reports on Thursday. Frustrated by the lack of progress in negotiations toward a contract extension, McLaurin sat out the first four days of training camp before reporting on Sunday. After reporting, he can no longer be fined $50,000 per day. McLaurin, who turns 30 in September, became a hold-in and was placed on the team's physically unable to perform list with an apparent ankle injury suffered last season. McLaurin and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels helped lead Washington (12-5) to its best season since it won the Super Bowl in 1991. The Commanders knocked off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC wild-card round and the Detroit Lions in the divisional round before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Over six seasons with Washington, the two-time Pro Bowl selection (2022, 2024) has 6,379 receiving yards, 38 touchdowns and 460 catches in 97 games. A team captain, McLaurin has hit the 1,000-yard mark for a franchise-record five straight seasons despite instability at the quarterback position before Daniels' NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign.
