MP demands answers over travel chaos at Wimbledon

Mr Kohler said he had been told Wimbledon station was 'very crowded' on Tuesday and called on TfL to outline what extra support is in place to keep services running smoothly during the rest of the tournament.
On Thursday, Campaign group Save Wimbledon Park, which opposes the All England Club's expansion plans onto nearby parkland, said the tournament's impact on the local area goes beyond the grounds themselves.
'We love the tennis – we do,' the group posted on X.
'But there is a real cost to being taken over, even for just two weeks a year.
'Streets are closed, bus routes diverted, parking a nightmare, tube travel ridiculous and traffic at gridlock.'

A TfL spokesperson said: 'We apologise to customers affected by the disruption on the District line, which is due to a track fault at Tower Hill.
'Our engineers are working hard to rectify the fault as soon as possible and restore a good service.
'District line customers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to check before they travel using TfL Journey Planner or the TfL Go app.'
Despite the travel disruption earlier in the week, conditions have brightened up for day four of the Championships.
Sunshine and 24C temperatures returned to south-west London on Thursday, after rain caused delays and sent fans scrambling for umbrellas on Wednesday.
On Centre Court, Novak Djokovic continues his bid for an eighth Wimbledon title as he faces British number three Dan Evans in the second round.
World number eight Iga Swiatek also returns to action, taking on American qualifier Caty McNally.
Number One Court hosts men's top seed Jannik Sinner against Australia's Aleksandar Vukic, before teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva plays Italy's Lucia Bronzetti.
Maria Sakkari will meet 2022 champion Elena Rybakina later in the day, while British hope Jack Draper faces a tough test against former US Open winner Marin Cilic.

Sport stars pay tribute to late Doddie Weir in birthday video
Rugby stars Kenny Logan and Rob Wainwright and other sporting legends have paid tribute to the late Doddie Weir in a video released on what would have been his 55th birthday. The video has been created to honour the memory of Weir, and the legacy of the foundation he set up to find effective treatments for motor neurone disease (MND) after he was diagnosed with it in 2016. Weir founded the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation in 2017, and died in November 2022 aged 52. Those in the video include Olympic swimming medallist Duncan Scott, Olympic curling medallist Eve Muirhead, broadcaster and ex-footballer Ally McCoist, former England rugby player Mike Tindall and British and Irish Lions fly-half Fin Smith. Supporters from across the UK will wear Doddie tartan to work on Friday July 4, as part of a tradition marking what would have been the former rugby player's birthday. Kenny Logan, who played alongside Doddie as part of the 1999 Five Nations-winning Scotland side, said: 'Doddie was a leader in life, and he remains a leader in death. 'His memory inspires thousands of people, both inside and outside of the MND community, to take action and help bring an end to this devastating disease. 'We all know Doddie should still be here with us. He brought light and laughter into every room, even in the darkest days. It's up to all of us to dig deep, keep fundraising and finish what he started. 'We do it because we miss him. We do it because we love him. And we do it because nobody else should have to go through what he and his family did.' The My Name'5 Doddie Foundation has now committed almost £20 million to targeted research projects and launched a Catalysing A Cure strategy to speed up the search for effective treatments. Earlier this year it pledged £4 million to the MND Discovery Network, a new UK-wide initiative connecting leading scientists to accelerate progress. The film also features Jennie Starkey, who is living with MND and is part of the Foundation's Discovery Network board. The video comes after the end of the Doddie's Lions Challenge, in which a team led by Logan and including Ally McCoist, Gabby Logan, and Doddie's widow Kathy, cycled 555 miles around the island of Ireland in five days to deliver the match ball for the British and Irish Lions vs Argentina fixture in Dublin. The ride has so far raised almost £650,000 for MND research. My Name'5 Doddie Foundation chief executive Nicola Roseman, said: 'Doddie's spirit continues to galvanise the MND community. 'The outpouring of support and emotion on what would have been his 55th birthday shows just how many lives he touched and how much his story still matters. It also reminds us that there is still work to be done. 'Every birthday that passes without Doddie is another reminder of the urgency of our mission.'

UK seaside town gets £1.8million facelift for summer including new arcade
A popular UK holiday hotspot has been given a £1.8million facelift in time for the summer holidays and it's sure to be a hit with families wanting to make the most of the seaside There's nothing quite like a trip to the British seaside; the sandy beaches, the pretty promenades, the fish and chip shops. But this summer there'll be an extra boost for families heading to one popular hotspot. That's because Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, has been given a £1.8million facelift in the form of its Britannia Pier. The seaside icon has received a huge makeover complete with a new amusement arcade and facade, in a move that aims to be "returning it to its former glory". Originally built in 1858, the Victorian timber pier has undergone several transformations (including being rebuilt and destroyed by a fire) and was reconstructed in 1958. Now it's been restored to be "bright, shiny and back to its former heyday" in time for the summer holidays. There is a second phase of work expected to start later this year, including new food stalls and cabins, but this won't be until October when the peak summer season has passed. There's plenty on offer for holidaymakers whether they're planning to tuck into snacks from food stalls, have a go on the family-friendly fairground rides, or relax at one of the bars to be found in the area. You can find out more about exactly what's on offer this summer on Then of course when you've had enough fun at the pier, the town offers miles of golden sands and swim-friendly waters that rival European hotspots, as well as a bustling promenade lined with restaurants, bars and shops. It's not the only exciting development in the popular seaside resort. Just recently, SEA LIFE Great Yarmouth opened its doors to a brand new £1million aquarium display, complete with over 30 marine species including blacktip reef sharks, moray eels, tangs, and angelfish. Still, the biggest highlight though has to be the 250,000-litre Ocean Tank and Tunnel where you can walk right under the fish and sea creatures, or keep an eye out for the impressive shipwreck habitat in the waters! In fact, this was inspired by HMS Gloucester, a royal warship which sank off the Norfolk coast in 1682. The shipwreck itself was discovered by two divers in 2007, but it wasn't until 2021 that the full public reveal was announced. For those who like to get up close to the sea creatures, the new aquarium will also feature specially created immersive viewing windows from which you can look out for the various marine life. Being such a popular destination in the summer months, it's worth noting that Great Yarmouth can get quite busy. Still, for those who are visiting there will be a series of fun events on across the holidays. Highlights include a Wheels Festival across June 21-22, the annual free fireworks on the Golden Mile on Wednesdays from July 23 to August 27, and fireworks displays every Tuesday near Hemsby Beach from July 23.
