Lok Sabha to take up motion to remove Justice Varma, motion not admitted in Rajya Sabha
Lok Sabha will take up a bipartisan motion to remove Justice Yashwant Varma, who is embroiled in a suspected corruption case, as the opposition-sponsored notice for a similar motion in Rajya Sabha was not admitted.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Friday (July 25, 2025) that it was a unanimous decision of all political parties to move unitedly in a case of perceived corruption in judiciary, asserting that Lok Sabha will take up the motion, which was signed by 152 MPs from the ruling alliance and the Opposition.
Official sources said the Opposition-sponsored notice for a similar motion in Rajya Sabha, which received it on the same day when the bipartisan notice was submitted to Lok Sabha on July 21, has not been admitted.
This ends speculation about the fate of the notice signed by 63 Rajya Sabha members of Opposition parties. Then Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar had mentioned receiving it in the House, alarming the government and triggering a chain of events that led to his abrupt resignation on the same night.
Mr. Rijiju said all political parties had agreed that the removal of Varma should be a joint call, adding that the proceedings will be taken up in Lok Sabha and then move to Rajya Sabha in line with the Judges (Enquiry) Act. -- PTI

The Minister said the total estimated cost of the project is about Rs 1,08,000 crore, out of which Japan International Cooperation Agency is funding 81 per cent i.e. Rs 88,000 crore and the remaining 19 per cent i.e. Rs 20,000 crore will be funded through contribution from the Ministry of Railways (50 per cent) and Governments of Maharashtra (25 per cent) and Gujarat (25 per cent).

‘We condemn them and you attend their feast': Mallikarjun Kharge's jibe at Centre on Pahalgam attack
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Tuesday said Home Minister Amit Shah must take responsibility for the "security lapse" which led to the Pahalgam terror attack, and demanded that accountability be fixed. Kharge, the Congress president, was citing Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha's statement while speaking during the special discussion on 'Operation Sindoor' in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in the Upper House. The Congress leader attacked the government and mocked PM Narendra Modi's unscheduled visit to Pakistan in 2015. "Along with the entire country and this House, I condemn the barbaric attack (in Pahalgam) and the continuous support to terrorists by Pakistan. We had condemned Pakistan earlier too, we will condemn them today as well and if this continues tomorrow, we will continue to condemn them. But here, we condemn them and you attend their feast and hug them." Kharge was perhaps referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2015 visit to Lahore for a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in a surprise visit to this country -the first visit to Pakistan by an Indian premier in more than 10 years. Earlier, Union Home Minister Shah announced in Lok Sabha that all three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 were neutralised duringOperation Mahadevon the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday. He asked if Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor's statement on security lapses was aimed at "saving" the home minister.
