Congress Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday took a swipe at party colleague Shashi Tharoor after the latter posted a cryptic comment on social media, widening cracks in his ties with the party leadership.
In a jibe at Tharoor, Congress party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said his party believes in the 'country first" mantra, but for some, it is 'Modi first and country later". Soon after Kharge's remarks, Tharoor put out a cryptic post on X in which there was an image of a bird with the caption — 'Don't ask permission to fly. The wings are yours. And the sky belongs to no one…"
Reacting to Tharoor's post, Tagore said birds don't need clearance to rise but in today even a free bird must watch the skies—hawks, vultures, and 'eagles' are always hunting.

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, Tharoor has been making comments on the India-Pakistan conflict and the diplomatic outreach that are at variance with the stand of the Congress.
Asked about Tharoor's article on Operation Sindoor outreach in which he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge said, 'I can't read English well. His (Tharoor's) (English) language is very good, that's why we have made him a Congress Working Committee member." 'But I want to say that the people of the opposition together said they are with the Army that is fighting (during Operation Sindoor)… We (the Congress) said the country is paramount and we will work together (with the government). We said 'country first, party later'. Some people say 'Modi first, country later'. What can we do about that," he said.

On another question related to Tharoor's comments, Kharge said, 'Whoever knows how to write, will write it, we do not want to think about that. Pressed further on the Thiruvananthapuram MP's comments, Kharge said Tharoor is speaking according to his will but 'we do not want to keep harping on it as we are more concerned about how to save the country".

During my time as Foreign Secretary and Ambassador to the US, I had the opportunity to work closely under his leadership. But it felt special and humbling that he took the time to make that personal call. IANS: What's your view on India's foreign policy under Prime Minister Modi? Harsh Vardhan Shringla: If you look at how the world perceives India today compared to 10 years ago, the difference is massive. Today, India is seen with great respect. People around the globe recognise India's leadership in technology, innovation, and digital public infrastructure. Our contributions at the global level are now widely acknowledged. During the COVID-19 crisis, Prime Minister Modi initiated Vaccine Maitri, through which India supplied vaccines to many developing nations. There were countries that had their own vaccines but didn't share them due to domestic needs or financial concerns. India, on the other hand, rose above that and helped when the world needed it the most. Everywhere PM Modi goes, he is conferred with international honours. That in itself reflects India's growing stature. I recently visited countries like Kuwait, Algeria, and Bahrain as part of an all-party delegation after Operation Sindoor, and leaders in all these countries praised Prime Minister Modi and appreciated how strong our relationships with Gulf nations have become under his leadership. IANS: Rahul Gandhi is the Leader of Opposition, but he frequently travels abroad. He is abroad even now. Your comments? Harsh Vardhan Shringla: Going abroad is one thing, but going abroad and making negative remarks about your own country is quite another. The people of India do not appreciate such behaviour. Criticising the country on foreign soil is deeply unfortunate. During our recent delegations, even opposition leaders accompanied us and stood united for the country. But to raise doubts and speak against the nation—especially at such sensitive times—is not acceptable. After Operation Sindoor, multiple delegations went abroad and sent out a strong message: India stands united. IANS: Rahul Gandhi has been demanding a debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament and is calling it 'Narendra Surrender.' Your reaction? Harsh Vardhan Shringla: Such statements are completely baseless. The world has seen how India asserted its strength. Within four days, our military conducted a successful operation with pinpoint accuracy—our BrahMos missiles struck nine terror bases with precision. Pakistan suffered heavy losses. In fact, it was Pakistan that reached out for a ceasefire. NSA Ajit Doval recently made a public statement confirming that there was no damage to Indian assets. Not even a single military installation was harmed. Satellite images clearly show how much damage was inflicted on Pakistani military sites. 'Just Like Urine...': Tejashwi Yadav Rubbishes Poll Body Sources' Illegal Voters Claim In Bihar
Last Updated: Tejashwi Yadav dismissed claims by Election Commission sources about illegal immigrants in Bihar's electoral rolls, calling them baseless. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday triggered a political slugfest after he rubbished the claims of Election Commission of India's sources of finding a large number of illegal immigrants in the electoral rolls of Bihar during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), and said that he considers such 'sutras" (sources) as 'mutra" (urine). While addressing a press conference on Sunday, the Bihar Leader of Opposition was asked about the possible presence of foreign illegal migrants in electoral rolls as revealed by the poll body. On this, Tejashwi Yadav asked the reporter about the origin of the news. The journalist then can be heard saying 'sources" to his query. Tejashwi then replied, ' hum wo sutra (sources) ko mutra (urine) samajhte hain… iska koi adhaar nai hai. (We consider these sources as urine, waste)" Later in a post on X, He questioned the credibility of sources making such claims, likening them to rumors about Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore being captured during India's military strikes on Pakistan under Operation Sindoor. 'The Election Commission, instead of coming forward itself, is getting news planted through sources so that it can play its game under this cover. These are the same sources that had captured Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi during Operation Sindoor,' he later said in a post on X. The RJD leader also cast doubts over the EC's claim that the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar was progressing at a brisk pace and would be completed before the July 25 deadline. He also claimed that if even one per cent of voters are left out during the verification process, nearly 7.9 lakh voters across the state could lose their right to vote. 'This means around 3,251 voters could be removed in each assembly seat," he said. He pointed out that during the last election, RJD lost 52 seats by margins of just around 5,000 votes. 'If 3,200 votes are cut in each assembly, it can make a big difference," news agency ANI quoted Tejashwi as saying. The EC seems to be playing with figures to give a false impression that it has been undertaking this exercise competently, he alleged. 'We have received complaints that booth-level officers (BLOs) are under pressure to achieve targets and they are ending up collecting enumerating forms without getting those duly signed and filled up by the voters concerned," he added. BJP Reacts The BJP slammed the RJD leader for his controversial comments saying that since Tejashwi is not educated, the people at his home make him memorise whatever they want, and he just repeats it. '…Only Tejashwi Yadav can make such comments about media personnel or any human being in general. The problem with Tejashwi Yadav is that he is not educated, which is why the people at his home make him memorise whatever they want, and he just repeats it. But if someone asks him a question outside of that, he will create this kind of mess…," BJP leader Sanjay Jaiswal said as quoted by news agency ANI. Jaiswal further demanded that Tejashwi should publicly apologise, express regret, and take an oath that he will not say anything beyond what he is taught at home. What ECI Sources Claimed? The ECI BLOs have found a significant number of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar possessing Indian documents such as Aadhaar, domicile certificates, and ration cards during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, sources said. Sources said that a thorough verification will be carried out between August 1 and 30, and any names found ineligible will be excluded from the final voter list set to be published on September 30. 'During house-to-house visits for SIR in Bihar, a large number of people from Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar have been found by BLOs. These persons have been able to procure all documents including Aadhaar, domicile certificate, ration card," they said. While announcing the SIR process, the ECI had said that it was necessary due to a number of reasons, including inclusion of the names of foreign illegal immigrants in the current list.
