Health min to form panel to strengthen med education
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the university should give more priority for strengthening medical education. He opined that so far, the university has been concentrating on conducting examinations but steps should be taken to improve the quality of medical education.
When the minister fails to get answer from officials over steps taken to improve quality of medical education, he said the university must bring out a system to improve standards.
He said as per the university Act, priority should be given to improve standards and on research programmes. He observed that there was no trace of focusing on research programmes though thousands of people visit government hospitals for treatment of various diseases.
Satya Kumar said a committee will be formed to study the existing system and to suggest steps to improve the functioning of the university and to improve medical education standards.
At present, more than 500 medical, dental, Ayush and nursing colleges are functioning under the supervision of Dr NTR university of health sciences.
Health university vice-chancellor P Chandrasekhar, registrar Radhikareddy and DME Narsimham were present.

Vijayawada: Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav underscored the need to reduce cesarean section deliveries in govt hospitals and promote normal deliveries across Andhra Pradesh. The training aims to equip district-level medical officers with administrative, legal, financial, audit, and budgeting skills to enhance healthcare outcomes. Yadav commended the DSH for initiating the programme, noting that DCHSs play a crucial role in managing nearly 242 secondary hospitals, including community health centres, area hospitals, and district hospitals. He said the training was necessary as many DCHSs lacked adequate administrative experience and faced challenges in monitoring, field visits, reporting, and programme implementation. He highlighted persistent issues such as poor attendance of doctors, corruption, and underutilisation of schemes like Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva. While acknowledging improvements over the past year — including a 7% rise in overall attendance and a 16% increase in district hospital attendance — he expressed concern over the relatively low attendance of doctors, which stood at around 75%. "If we can improve doctor attendance by even 20%, the impact on healthcare delivery would be substantial," Yadav said.

Health Minister Satya Kumar flags surge in C-sections, seeks better maternal care
VIJAYAWADA: Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Tuesday expressed concern over the 41% caesarean delivery rate in secondary government hospitals and urged measures to promote normal deliveries and improve maternal care standards. Addressing District Coordinators of Health Services (DCHSs) at a four-day State-level training in Tadepalli, he said, 'Corruption in any form will not be tolerated.' He launched a mobile app by the Secondary Health Directorate to improve monitoring. Yadav flagged the low number of pre-authorisations under the NTR Vaidya Seva scheme. 'While the share of pre-authorised treatments in government hospitals rose from 15% in June 2023 to 24% in June 2024, it still falls short when compared to private hospitals, which operate at 80–90% efficiency. This gap must be bridged. We need to match the performance standards of the private sector,' he said. He added, 'The public health infrastructure has seen notable improvements. 462 doctors were appointed and facilities such as 149 X-ray machines, 20 dialysis centres, 13 IPHLs, and ultrasound services in 90 hospitals were introduced. Each IPHL offers 139 tests.'ww
