2025 Songs Of The Summer Predictions

Buzz Feed14 hours ago
So far in 2025, we've had new albums from Bad Bunny, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Benson Boone, and even Will Smith. With the year far from over, I feel like it's time to predict what hit will be crowned the "song of the summer" before we're any deeper into the year.
So, I asked my fellow trending news and pop culture enthusiasts at BuzzFeed which song they believe is the 2025 "song of the summer," and everybody had great responses. Here are which songs they picked (including my own selection).
"Manchild" — Sabrina Carpenter
"I didn't like it at first but it has grown on me, and no other song has appeared and become a 'song of the summer' for me, so I guess this one is it this year. It's so damn catchy!"—Nora Dominick, Senior Entertainment Editor
Check out the music video for "Manchild."
"New Friends" — Flowerovlove
"'new friends' by flowerovlove is pure pop perfection. The bridge ('You're just a man / Why would I be your friend?') is iconic, and I hope her career blows up like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan's did last summer!"—Kristen Harris, Staff Writer
Check out the visualizer for "New Friends."
"Vibes Don't Lie (Remix)" — Leon Thomas & Big Sean
"Not to be dramatic, but this song was MADE for sun-lounging and rosé-sipping. If you're a fan of slow, sexy R&B, this — and any Leon Thomas track, TBH — is for you."—Leyla Mohammed, Staff Writer
Check out the YT audio of "Vibes Don't Lie (Remix).
"Wifey Riddim" — Shygirl ft. Jorja Smith & SadBoi
"Colossal team-up, infectious production, eye-catching video—what else could you want? Shygirl is, as always, always bringing the heat."—Larry Fitzmaurice, Senior Weekend Editor
Check out the music video for "Wifey Riddim."
"Nokia" — Drake
"My song of the summer (despite it being released in February) is 'Nokia' by Drake. No matter your feelings about Drizzy in 2025, the man has always known how to master a catchy summer song — and this track is no exception. As well as being a total bop, 'Nokia' asks the all-important questions for a true hot girl summer: 'Who's calling my phone?' and 'Where the fuck the function?' Get me some sun, a spicy marg, and what more could I need?"—Ellen Durney, Staff Writer"Mine is Drake's 'NOKIA.' It's just so groovy! Whenever I hear, 'Where the f*** the function,' it's like a call to action. Like, I immediately want to get up and find the vibes."—Chelsea Stewart, Weekend Editor
Check out the music video for "Nokia."
"Can We Talk About Isaac?" — Rachel Chinouriri
"This song belongs on every summer playlist, in my humble opinion — it's bright, pop perfection that makes you wanna dance around the room and sing into a hairbrush. I saw her perform the song at her headline tour last month, and the energy of the crowd was electric. I think we're long overdue for a Rachel Chinouriri summer."—Angelica Martinez, Latine Editorial Lead
Check out the official visualiser for "Can We Talk About Issac?"
"You Got Time and I Got Money" — Smerz
"This is a *true* version of summer: languorous in the sticky heat, yearning but woozy, fun but TIRED. It's a pop song with just enough cheek and just enough swagger. It's a Smerz Summer."—Alex Naidus, Editorial Director
Check out the music video for "You Got Time and I Got Money."
"Ribs" — Lorde
"RIBS — LORDE — This is my song of the summer for 2025 because I listen to it when I am depressed and baby, look around, this song has never been more relevant. Also, despite it being my depression song, it's also a certified bop, so if you see me driving down the road crying while listening to this song for the 17th time this week, no you didn't!"—Lara Parker, Director of the Lifestyle and Trending News
Check out the YT audio for "Ribs."
"Headphones On" — Addison Rae
"The song of the summer is 'Headphones On' by Addison Rae. Am I correct? No. Do I care? NO!!!!"—Sarah Wainschel, Deputy Director, Aud Dev"To me, this year's song of the summer glory belongs to Addison Rae for blessing us with 'Headphones On' because not only is it a bop, but it genuinely feeeels like summer. It doesn't take itself seriously, makes my brain feel smooth, and forces me to forget about The Grind™ and soak up some (much needed) vibey vibes instead. Just like summer. Guess I gotta accept the pain. 💅"—Kelsie Hammond, Junior Community Strategist
Check out the music video for "Headphones On."
"Boots on the Ground (Where Them Fans At)" — 803Fresh
"I think 'Boots on the Ground' by 803Fresh is definitely the song of the summer. It's catchy, and it feels new and familiar at the same time. No matter how many times I hear it, it makes me dance."—Tafi Mukunyadzi, Senior Editor
Check out the music video for "Boots on the Ground."
"No Broke Boys" — Disco Lines & Tinashe
"Hearing this song for the first time made me feel like I was driving through California with the car roof open, even though I was actually in my mother's SUV in the suburbs "—Natasha Jokic, Senior Staff Writer
Check out the official audio for "No Broke Boys."
"End of the World" — Miley Cyrus
"It SHOULD have been 'End of the World' by Miley Cyrus, but you all let it flop. A poignant, relevant song (the political climate—HELLO) with a catchy-as-hell, ABBA-esque beat: Miley delivered everything you could want in a song of the summer!! I'll never, EVER forget that you let her (and me) down!!!"—Matt Stopera, Founding Editor
Check out the music video for "End of the World."
"Final Boss" — MARINA
"MARINA's newest album is full of bangers, but the final song is my favorite. It's wildly catchy, and it's the perfect 'getting ready to go out' song. Shout-out to 'CUNTISSIMO' as a runner-up."—Hannah Marder, Senior Staff Writer
Check out the visualiser for "Final Boss."
"Asking 4 A Friend" — Bermuda Search Party
"You know that feeling in the summer when the sun starts to set around 9pm and you find yourself in a backyard surrounded by good friends and the music that's playing just hits all the right vibes. That's Bermuda Search Party. Their sound is so nostalgic and yet of this very moment. It's like their music is from a cut scene of a movie you always wanted to be in except this time it's your real life, soak it in. When the brass comes in, you cant help but move your feet and smile. Oh and if you can, go see them live, its magic."—Jennifer Tonti, Senior Audience Development Strategist
Check out the music video for "Asking For a Friend."
"Ace Trumpets" — Clipse
"There's something about a pure gangster, grimy, gully beat by Pharrell that makes you frown in utter disgust that just hits the inner east-coast child in me. You know that stank face you make when the beat is soooo good? THIS! Not to mention hearing Pusha T and Malice reunite and lay down entire verses where they rhyme with one word the whole time. Lyrical mastery. Insanity. On repeat over here."—Karlton Jahmal, Sponsorship and Assignments Editor at BuzzFeed
Check out the lyric video for "Ace Trumpets."
"Is It?" — Tyla
"Tyla "Is It?' is my song of the summer because it's such a summery, flirtatious bop with a super cute music video to accompany it. Tyla continues to prove that she's a formidable main pop girlie!"—Terry Carter Jr., Director of Pop Culture and Celebrity News
Check out the music video for "Is It?"
And finally, "Hold My Hand" (Jet2holidays Version) — Jess Glynne
The internet has spoken! The song of the summer is Jess Glynne's 2015 song 'Hold My Hand', but not the original. No. 'Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday' commercial being repurposed for TikTok videos and Instagram Reels. I've been a fan of the song before the 2022 Jet2holidays ad, but I have discovered a new love for the track with that quirky British voice talking over a video of a toddler tumbling down padded stairs.—Myke Thompson, Jr. Staff Writer
Check out the TV advert for Jet2holiday.

Drake Offers a Rare Look Inside His Renovated $200M Jet "Air Drake"

Summary Drakejust unveiled a closer look into his renovated'Air Drake.'The heavily customized Boeing 767-300F isn't just a private jet — it's a physical extension of the brand he's built: global, ambitious, and unapologetically luxe. Visually, the aircraft has always made a statement. What was once a more vintage, slightly pink-toned interior has since been updated to reflect a cooler, more contemporary mood — now outfitted with purple LED lighting and a dedicated movie room tailored for long-haul travel. 'It's, like, probably one of the craziest moments of my life,' Drake shared, reflecting on how the jet came to be. 'I actually didn't believe it until AJ told me, 'I'ma get you the biggest jet in the game. Out of anybody, it would be you and the President — that's it.'' That promise turned into what is now one of the most extravagant private planes in music. Its original livery, designed in collaboration with the lateVirgil Abloh, featured a soft sky-blue and white cloud-like finish, complete with Drake'sOVOowl on the tail and bold 'Air Drake' branding along the engines. While the exterior remains unchanged, recent glimpses of the updated interior have sparked speculation that the new look could be tied to the tone or aesthetic of his upcoming album rollout forIceman. Originally constructed in 1996 as a freighter, the aircraft was acquired by Drake in 2019 through a strategic partnership with Cargojet, a Canadian cargo airline. The deal, reportedly involving no direct payment, hinged on Cargojet's belief that Drake's global visibility would generate significant brand exposure. They weren't wrong. In the years since, Air Drake has become one of the most talked-about aircraft in pop culture. The base value of the 767 comes in at around $185 million, but the real story is in the transformation. An estimated $80–100 million USD in upgrades brought the plane into an entirely different category of private aviation. It now accommodates between 30–45 passengers, prioritizing space, comfort, and long-haul performance over maximum capacity. Take a closer look at Drake's tour of 'Air Drake' below, and stay tuned for more on the upcoming release of his albumIceman.

Take The Stand! UMG Wants To Subpoena Drake & Kendrick Lamar In ‘Not Like Us' Lawsuit

The civil lawsuit filed by Drake against Universal Music Group (UMG) is underway, with both sides now submitting lists of potential witnesses. In a move that's raising eyebrows across the industry, UMG has notably called for both Drake and his most recent rival, Kendrick Lamar, to testify in court during Drizzy's 'Not Like Us' civil lawsuit. Source: Mark Blinch/MICHAEL TRAN / Getty Drake initially filed his lawsuit against UMG in January 2025, accusing the music giant of knowingly defaming him. His complaint centers on Kendrick Lamar's hit diss track, 'Not Like Us,' which famously refers to Drake as a 'child predator.' Drake alleges that UMG not only distributed this song but also promoted it through 'illegal means.' UMG, for its part, has vehemently denied these claims, asserting that the notion they would 'seek to harm the reputation of any artist — let alone Drake — is illogical.' They have also been actively pushing for the judge to dismiss the case entirely. Despite their efforts, the lawsuit continues to move forward. 'Plaintiff, one of the most successful recording artists of all time, lost a rap battle that he provoked and in which he willingly participated,' UMG's lawyers write in the filing. 'Instead of accepting the loss like the unbothered rap artist he often claims to be, he has sued his own record label in a misguided attempt to salve his wounds.' The legal chess match intensified on Monday, July 14. According to XXL Mag , both sides presented their lists of individuals who could potentially be subpoenaed to testify. Drake's legal team submitted a sprawling list of 63 individuals and entities, signaling a wide-ranging inquiry into how 'Not Like Us' gained traction and its impact. Drake's extensive list of potential witnesses includes the rapper himself, as well as top industry executives such as UMG CEO Lucian Grange, Interscope marketing president Steve Berman, and Republic Records CEO Monte Lipman. His legal team is also seeking information from major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, YouTube, SoundCloud, and TikTok. Furthermore, entities connected to Lamar's Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show performance, such as the NFL and Roc Nation, are also on Drake's radar. Drake's lawyers are seemingly aiming to uncover any alleged 'covert tactics to promote the Defamatory Material.' Notably, Drake's team has listed Kojo Menne Asamoah, whom they claim used such tactics, but they have been unable to locate or serve him despite hiring private investigators. In stark contrast to Drake's extensive list, UMG has filed a considerably shorter list containing just nine names. However, the inclusion of two specific names on UMG's list has captured everyone's attention: Drake himself and Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick Lamar's manager, Anthony Saleh, is also named. This move is particularly significant because Lamar is not listed as a defendant in the lawsuit. UMG's lawyers argue that Lamar 'is likely to have discoverable information concerning the creation of the recording, image, and video and the distribution and promotion of the recording and video.' The legal teams' strategies hint at a high-stakes courtroom showdown. While Drake claims the lawsuit is about UMG profiting from 'dangerous misinformation' and 'artificially inflat[ing]' the song's popularity, UMG maintains Drake is simply 'weaponiz[ing] the legal process to silence an artist's creative expression' after 'losing a rap battle.' What Is Going on With ASAP Rocky's Album ‘Don't Be Dumb'?

ASAP Rocky has been teasing his forthcoming album Don't Be Dumb by name for over two and a half years, over the span of which he: performed potential tracks on it at Rolling Loud twice, starred in two high-profile feature films, began raising one infant with Rihanna, welcomed another, and now is waiting on the arrival of a third, oh, and beat a felony assault case levied by his former friend and collaborator that could have sent him to jail for 24 years. While there's understandably been some restlessness and perhaps even annoyance (as Rocky has noted himself) towards the delayed arrival of the album, when you put it in perspective, it'll be a miracle if Don't Be Dumb comes out at all. After announcing a few unmet release dates and divulging details about the album in interview after interview, Rocky's concerns about fan fatigue towards updates alone may have been warranted. His last album, Testing, dropped in 2018. 'I'm in the mixing and mastering realm of it, but I think quite frankly, people are tired of hearing about updates about the album,' he told GQ of Don't Be Dumb in February. On July 3, Rocky dropped 'Pray4DaGang' as an Apple Music exclusive for the first 24 hours, seemingly a new look into a new era. However, social media soon noticed that in its tenure on Apple music alone, the song didn't seem to crack the platform's daily top 200 songs chart (meanwhile, that weekend, Rocky's rival Drake released 'What Did I Miss?' and made a spectacle of it with his Iceman stream, drawing many eyes and landing the song high on the same chart). More from Rolling Stone 'Highest 2 Lowest' Isn't Spike Lee's Best or Worst - Just a Chance to Watch Denzel Go HAM Rihanna Reveals She's Pregnant With Third Child at Met Gala A$AP Rocky Trial: A$AP Relli Makes Surprise Admission in Gun Assault Trial Though both Rocky and Drake came up in the trenches of the Blog Era and defined many elements of rap culture, their lives and careers have taken very different paths, with one chasing superstardom through a constant churn of music, and the other living a fuller, broader life. Will Don't Be Dumb make that dissonance clearer? As we await the album, here's everything we know about Don't Be Dumb so far. April 2022 – ASAP Rocky is Arrested on Felony Gun Charges This happens roughly eight months before Rocky reveals Don't Be Dumb as the title of his next album, but the fallout of his arrest for allegedly shooting his former friend ASAP Relli covers its entire timeline. In April 2022, Rocky was taken into police custody at Los Angeles International Airport after flying in from a private plane from his partner, Rihanna's, native Barbados. May 2022 – Rocky Clarifies That the Album Won't Be Called Though Rocky had teased a project called All Smiles previously, he clarifies with Dazed that his forthcoming album won't be called that. 'One thing I can tell you is that the name isn't gonna be All Smiles – you know, I never publicly said that my album was called All Smiles,' he corrects for them. 'That one is more of a concept project, it's music and more. I'm wrapping up the new album now; I've been shooting so many visuals for it. I don't want to be cliche or sound like a salesman, but I've pushed myself to the limit on everything. Going from that industrial, subversive sound from Testing and then graduating with a more polished sound… I just like where it is.' December 2, 2022 – Metro Boomin Has Entered the Chat In another interview with GQ, Rocky teases that Metro Boomin made major contributions to his fourth album: 'I'm gonna put it to you like this: This next album needs to be just called Flacko Boomin, you hear me?' December 8, 2022 – The Album's Real Name is Revealed While performing on 2 Chainz's Amazon Music Live concert series, Rocky debuts the somber 'Same Problems?' while displaying the portraits of many late rappers like 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., DMX, Nipsey Hussle, Mac Miller, and Pop Smoke. The title, Don't Be Dumb, is also on display and referenced throughout the show. July 20, 2023 – 'Riot (Rowdy Pipe'n)' is Called an Official Album Single In an interview with Complex, Rocky plants a stake in the ground: his latest song at this point, 'Riot (Rowdy Pipe'n),' is a Don't Be Dumb single. Though he condemns constant leaks as a source of his album delays, the song itself is a version of one that was leaked under the name 'Piper' years before, too. 'These dummies got to stop leaking shit,' Rocky says. 'Every time, we have to go back to the drawing board, but right now I think it's in a place where we tightened it up and we really can't make or break anything right now.' A few days later, he would perform another new song, now known as 'Tailor Swif,' at Rolling Loud Miami. While chopping it up with Complex, he shares that in addition to Metro Boomin, Hit-Boy, Tyler, the Creator, Madlib, The Alchemist, and Hitkidd did some production on the album. October 2023 – is Rocky's 'Best Work Yet' In a new Dazed interview, Rocky sets a high bar for his next album. 'I've been really experimenting as usual, and what I like about this is it feels like my best work yet,' he says. 'I want to leave expectations wide and open. I don't want to tell you what to expect. I just want people to experience it how they do naturally.' June 2024 – Gets Its First Release Date While presenting his clothing line American Sabotage in his Paris Fashion Week debut, he plays music from Don't Be Dumb and livestreams the show beyond the posh city streets. Mid-stream, he announces August 30 as its release date and opens up pre-orders. He tells GQ how the clothing line and the album were connected when asked where the name American Sabotage came from. 'I was working on my album and I was thinking about being rebellious and the stuff that we're not really allowed to talk about,' he says. 'It's not about treason or nothing like that, it's more about deciding to do things from a different perspective, taking the hard way instead of the easy way. And sometimes challenging yourself can come across as self-sabotaging. Exceeding time limits and deadlines, that's self-sabotaging. So it's also about talking about your flaws and the struggle that made you.' July 2024 – DJ Kast One Says the Album Will Make Rocky a Permanent Drake Enemy While on the Ebro in the Morning show on New York's Hot 97, DJ Kast One divulges his take on the Don't Be Dumb music he's heard, claiming that Rocky 'is going to be cemented on Drake's list after this.' A player in the Kendrick vs. Drake saga, Rocky has also seemingly tossed shots at the Canadian rapper on songs like Kid Cudi's 'Wow,' Future and Metro Boomin's 'Show of Hands' and his J. Cole collaboration 'Ruby Rosary.' As for Don't Be Dumb, DJ Kast One also says, 'I heard Slick Rick [on it]. That was amazing. I also heard ASAP Rocky definitely addressing a lot of the main topics that are happening out here right now. Let's just say, the list keeps going on strong.' August 2, 2024 – Okay, So Now 'Highjack' is the First Single? In the description of an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, the streamer calls his song 'Highjack' Don't Be Dumb's first single. 'Most of the songs that I usually perform and shit like that, muthafuckers leak it. And once it's leaked, it's just like, 'Nah, it's not on the project,'' Rocky tells Lowe. August 22, 2024 – Delayed to Fall 2024 Once again, blaming leaks in addition to sample clearances, Rocky takes to Twitter to explain the latest roadblock. 'LEAKS & SAMPLE CLEARANCES ARE DISRUPTING THE ALBUM,' he wrote. 'ITS BEEN 6 YEARS & I WANNA MAKE THE BEST ALBUM EVER. IM SORRY FOR THE WAIT.' In better news, in a Billboard cover story, Rocky notes that his hero, the filmmaker Tim Burton, heard the album and loved it: 'I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was f—ing with it heavy.' December 2024 – Fall Has Come and Gone; the Album is Delayed Again Fans who pre-ordered Don't Be Dumb box sets, vinyl, and CDs receive a refund email announcing an early 2025 release date. They also get an 'attached coupon for a gift upon release.' February 2025 – Found Not Guilty in ASAP Relli Assault Trial, Rocky Is Ready to Move On In More Ways Than One On February 18, Rocky was found not guilty of shooting at ASAP Relli after a three-week trial. Just ten days later, he tells GQ he's tired of yapping about his unreleased album. 'The album's done,' Rocky said. 'I just want to drop it. I don't want to keep saying what I'm going to do, and I want to give people what I've been promising them for a long-ass fucking time.' March 2025 – Rocky Performs at Rolling Loud California As one of the popular rap festival's headliners, Rocky began his set aboard a helicopter that had Don't Be Dumb painted across its side. May 2025 – May Show Rocky's Sensitive Side In an interview with Variety, Rocky teases the album's subject matter and a bit of insecurity: 'This fucking album, it represents who I am right now. It's just I hope that it's digestible,' he says. Elsewhere, he adds, 'It's odd because as I get older, I'm more conscious about how I view myself. Describing my life sounds very braggadocious, and I want to figure out how to say it to where it feels more humble, relatable, and sincere, as opposed to just shitting on the next person or making the next person feel down, or just evoking negative shit out of people.' In July, he tells Apple Music's Mehdi Maïzi, 'If I'm out here telling y'all how pretty I am again, it's not talking about I talked about how I fucked your bitch or how I can take your bitch again, it's not really talking about nothing.' July 3 – 'Pray4DaGang' Drops as An Apple Music Exclusive 'Pray4DaGang' gets a seemingly rocky rollout in the public eye, as fans notice the Fourth of July drop doesn't land on Apple's top songs, though it's released exclusively there, and that its music video was pulled from YouTube.
