Siddhant Chaturvedi, Triptii Dimri starer Dhadak 2 struggles at box office, earns ₹3.65 on Day 1
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 2 (ANI): The much-awaited romantic drama 'Dhadak 2,' starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, finally hit theatres this Friday. While the film had generated curiosity for its fresh pairing, its box office performance on Day 1 fell short of expectations. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the sequel to 'Dhadak' earned ₹ 3.65 crore on its first day in India. The film's release clashed with Ajay Devgn's starer 'Son of Sardaar 2.' With two major films hitting theatres on the same day, movie buffs seem to have divided their attention, which could be one reason why the film fell short of expectations. Adding to the pressure was the continued success of Ahaan Panday's Saiyaara at the box office. The romantic drama, which hit theatres earlier on July 18, is still performing strongly. This seems to have affected the Siddhant and Dimri starrer. 'Dhadak 2' is a follow-up to 2018's 'Dhadak' and a remake of filmmaker Mari Selvaraj's 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. As per Adarsh, the sequel's first-day numbers are below expectations, especially when compared to its first instalment, 'Dhadak,' which starred Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. The film had earned ₹ 8.71 crore on its opening day back then. All eyes are now on the weekend collections to see if the film can pick up pace. Helmed by Shazia Iqbal, Dhadak 2 explores love while challenging social norms. The film follows Siddhant's character as he navigates a love story that breaks through societal expectations and class barriers. (ANI)

Kannada film Kandeelu, directed and produced by Yashodha Prakash Kottukattira, bagged the prize for Best Kannada Feature Film. 'Ever since I heard the news,' she tells us, 'the phone hasn't stopped ringing, and soon after, I was inundated with invitations for felicitation ceremonies. ' Yashodha shares her unique milestone: 'I am told I'm the third woman director to receive the National Award and the first woman from Coorg. I couldn't have been happier — this was something I hadn't conceived even in my wildest dreams.' Looking ahead, she says her dream is to see more women directors. Her advice? 'Don't wait for support — just forge ahead. If your family backs you, that's a blessing. But don't wait for validation. Focus on getting your film out to people first,' she says, adding that through her film she aimed to 'inspire people to remain hopeful even in the most adverse situations. '

This win opens new doors, raises expectations, says Chidananda S Naik
Kannada short film Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know, bagged Best Script in the Non-Feature Film category. Directed by Mysuru-born filmmaker Chidananda S Naik and produced as part of his year-end exercise at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), the folk tale adaptation first garnered global attention at Cannes 2024. 'This win will make access to the right rooms smoother,' the filmmaker tells Bangalore Times. 'Recognition makes people take you seriously. Of course, expectations are higher too—but that's a good kind of pressure.' He tells us that the win came as a surprise. 'I was working on my next film when someone messaged 'Congratulations on the National Award!' I wasn't even aware the announcements were happening. It was a very different kind of joy. Quiet. Grounded. I'm happy for the boy who began this journey so long ago. If I could go back in time and tell him this, he wouldn't believe it.
