MACC detains two Penang Airport Immigration officers over ‘counter-setting' scheme
The officers, stationed at Penang International Airport (PIA), allegedly allowed foreign nationals to bypass official Immigration checks and enter the country without proper clearance.
A source familiar with the investigation said the two were detained after MACC received information about their role in facilitating unauthorised entry.
They were arrested under the MACC Act 2009 [Act 694].
The special operation, which is still ongoing, aims to uncover the modus operandi and network behind the scheme.
It is believed that a wider group of personnel may be involved in 'counter-setting', exposing systemic weaknesses at Malaysia's entry points.
According to the source, the two officers are now assisting MACC in tracing higher-level links and identifying others connected to the operation.
MACC has urged members of the public to report any information related to corruption or abuse of power in both the public and private sectors.
Last week, it was reported that an enforcement officer was arrested at Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for suspected involvement in similar 'counter-setting' activities.

In Pudu, wife shocked after learning policeman husband was stabbed during KL patrol
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — The wife of a police corporal stabbed while on patrol in Pudu last week described her shock upon receiving a call from the hospital requesting immediate consent for emergency surgery. Norfazliana Osman, 35, said she was at their home in the Pudu police quarters when Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, contacted her around 1 pm on Thursday. 'They said they needed to operate immediately and asked for consent as part of his intestines might need to be removed due to the stab wound,' she told reporters at the hospital today. Her husband, Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman, remains in stable condition but is still weak and requires pain management, she said. 'I understand the risks of his job as a policeman, but as a wife, the fear is always there,' said Norfazliana, who has two children aged 11 and seven. She said it is uncertain how long her husband will remain hospitalised, but confirmed their children have been informed of his condition. Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay visited Mohd Nadzri at the hospital. Also present were Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju district police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras district police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Mohd Nadzri was seriously injured after being stabbed in the abdomen by a 56-year-old local man while patrolling with four other officers in Pudu Market, Jalan Yew. The suspect was arrested at the scene and has been remanded until next Thursday. Police conclude probe into Zara Qairina's death, 60 witnesses interviewed
KUANTAN, Aug 2 — Police have completed their investigation into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, who was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory on July 16. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said about 60 witnesses from various parties had been interviewed in connection with the case. 'The investigation is complete. I expect the police will submit the papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers by next week at the latest,' he said when asked about developments in the case. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Passing-Out Parade for the 12/2024 Maritime Junior Lieutenant Basic Course and the 18/2024 Maritime Class II Cadet Basic Course at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS) here today. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17. Her death sparked widespread reactions on social media after the case went viral. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun was previously reported as saying investigations focused on two main aspects, namely the cause of death and the surrounding circumstances. Meanwhile, Saifuddin said the government remains committed to strengthening the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's (MMEA) operational capabilities, including through the construction of two additional Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV).
