GB News's Eamonn Holmes feeling ‘sore' after falling from chair live on-air

Rhyl Journal21-05-2025
The Northern Irish broadcaster, 65, added that it was 'a bit of a shock' considering he had been taken to hospital earlier in the month after he had a fall at his home.
During his Wednesday show, with his co-host Ellie Costello, a crash could be heard while the camera was focused on their guest, commentator Charlie Rowley.
Costello could be heard saying 'oh my gosh' off-screen, and Holmes pleaded with Rowley to 'carry on' before the presenter returned to the show following a break.
Holmes said: 'Welcome back. Good to see you again. Especially good for me to see you again. I am still alive, yes.
'And they're very wonky wheels on chairs that we've got here, and matter of fact, we don't really like the chairs full stop, do we? They're a bit slippy and slidey and I've slipped and slid off mine there.
'Not the first guest to have done so, we've had a few, they have to remain nameless because they're well known people, but they've hit the floor really badly, quite frightening.
'And it was a bit of a shock for me because I've had a fall in my bathroom two weeks ago, which hospitalised me, and that hit me again right in the back. (I'm) really, really sore. Really sore.'
He later said the chair 'gave way' which meant he was lying flat on his back.
In all seriousness though, @EamonnHolmes YOU are the real hero for carrying on this morning. A true professional and National Treasure who I learn from each and every week. It's a privilege working with you, @elliecostelloTV and the rest of the @GBNEWS family. Take care!
— Charlie Rowley (@CharlieRowley18) May 21, 2025
He added: 'As the morning goes on, you feel aches and pains. The worst thing about this, of course, this was at a time when I was hospitalised two weeks ago for a very similar fall in the same area, back of the head, my neck, my shoulders. So it all came back, as it were.'
On X, formerly Twitter, Rowley wrote: '@EamonnHolmes YOU are the real hero for carrying on this morning. A true professional and National Treasure who I learn from each and every week. It's a privilege working with you, @elliecostelloTV and the rest of the @GBNEWS family. Take care!'.
On May 2, in an Instagram post that included a photo from the inside of an ambulance, Holmes thanked the crew who had helped him after he fell on his bathroom floor.
The former This Morning host has long battled health issues after dislodging discs in his back which he said previously impinged on his sciatic nerve and affected the mobility of his right leg.
He has spoken about going through spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and his struggles walking and using a mobility scooter.
Last year, Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford announced their split, after tying the knot in 2010.

ITV Love Island's Dejon slammed as 'jealous' by fans as he reacts to villa exit

Harrison and Lauren both left the villa in recent episodes, which has shaken up the dynamic among the rest of the group but not all viewers are buying it. Sunday night's Love Island episode saw the villa reflect on Harrison's bombshell exit. Many of his co-stars expressed how "proud" and "delighted" they were for him deciding to leave the ITV show, following Lauren's shock dumping. ‌ However eagle-eyed viewers spotted that one person in the villa appeared to be glad to see the back of Harrison, as it put them further forward in the competition. Fans took to social media airing that they think Dejon was pleased to see him go. ‌ One viewer wrote on Twitter: "Dejon is just happy he eliminated competition . He is jealous of Harrison", whilst another commented: "Dejon you're only happy for him because you think you're on the way to win" ‌ A third ITV viewer noted: "Of course Dejon is buzzing, one less person to beat", whilst a fourth wrote: "Dejon is just happy the competition is now smaller! ! ! !" It comes following a rollercoaster week in the villa, which saw Lauren brutally sent packing after new bombshell Angel chose to couple up with Ty, leaving her single and dumped. ‌ Harrison was left at odds, after being in a couple with Toni, but confessing he missed Lauren. He left everyone in both the villa and viewers watching on stunned as he continued to be stuck in a love triangle with the pair seemingly unable to work out his feelings. However, he eventually left after Lauren admitting he felt she was "girlfriend material" and the pair could work on the outside. There wasn't a dry among them when he left as he became emotional, with Toni also breaking down at how she was treated during her time with him. ‌ Since leaving the villa, Harrison and Lauren have discussed their plans. Harrison shared: "We'll make the distance work! It will be no issue. We left on good terms, but the two days prior to leaving, we weren't talking properly, so it would be good to have a conversation, get everything out in the open and hopefully move forward from there. "I feel very strongly about the girl, I wouldn't have left if I didn't. I have no doubt in my mind that she'll be my girlfriend one day. I'm buzzing to see her and reunite! She's such a great girl." ‌ Elsewhere, he also expressed his hopes to maintain a friendship with Toni outside of the show, acknowledging that he might not receive the same sentiment due to past mistakes. Reflecting on his behaviour, Harrison admitted: "You could tell by me getting emotional, I was upset about how I've acted and upset about Toni being upset as well. Similarly, if someone treated my sister like I'd treated Toni in there obviously I'd be mortified. I wanted to apologise to her and I think she could see I was being genuine. I'm happy with how things were left." Love Island will continue tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

Jessie J has shared a candid update with fans a month after undergoing breast cancer surgery, as she was flooded with support on social media. The news comes one month following her breast cancer operation. ‌ The Bang Bang hitmaker received an "early" breast cancer diagnosis and underwent vital surgery last month. The 37-year-old continued to keep her fans in the loop about her health journey on social media. ‌ Currently recovering, the mum-of-one turned to Instagram this week to reassure followers she's "feeling good" despite experiencing tougher moments, as reported by the Mirror. ‌ Alongside a montage featuring snaps of herself cradling her son Sky, she wrote: "It will be 4 weeks since my breast cancer surgery on Saturday. I am feeling good. Some days are harder than others. "My movement is good, still very sore, but I am getting more like myself every day. Mentally it's all catching up with me. So giving myself a little space to feel it all. It's a [rollercoaster] for sure." ‌ The singer revealed her little one and partner had travelled abroad to visit relatives whilst she concentrated on rest and recovery. The Poker Face singer said: "Sky has gone away for 2 weeks with his Dad to his Danish fam, but also so I can rest and do physio. (And re organise the whole house with my Mum and my sister as my body) lol. My adhd and ocd still going strong." She continued: "I'm not allowed to pick Sky up for a few months and that has been a difficult adjustment, I just want to hold him like this and spin around. But in the bigger picture it's a small sacrifice to have my health and to still be here. The day will come I can lift him up for a cuddle. I can't wait for that day. That day is what gets me through these days. These days are weird. I love being your mum Sky. I miss my boys." ‌ Fans soon flooded the comments with messages of encouragement, with one follower penning: "you are so strong! ! Sending you so much love," whilst Strictly star Amy Dowden added: "Sending so much love!" "Such immense strength and courage , none of know how strong we are until put to the test , the human spirit is incredible," another fan remarked. ‌ Jessie J had posted an adorable video of her son Sky three weeks before, who she shares with basketball star Chanan Colman, performing at the recording studio whilst she beamed with pride. She captioned the moment: "This is so special. This little boy is the brightest light in my whole world." The singer has been keeping followers informed during her challenging health battle, offering an update two weeks after her operation.
