Chicagoan Stefan Matteau walked away from professional hockey after one season as an AHL Cleveland Monsters captain. He started playing hockey when he was drafted 29th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Draft. He contributed six goals and five assists for a total of 11 points through 92 National Hockey League contests. Most of Stefan Matteau's career was within the AHL, where he proved to be a consistent forward. He had 76 goals and 93 assists for a total of 169 points in 411 regular-season games. He was an asset for most AHL teams because he was experienced and versatile.
Along with his North American background, Stefan Matteau competed abroad in the 2022–2023 season, dividing time between German Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) club ERC Ingolstadt and Swedish Hockey League (SHL) affiliate Linköping HC. That short stint abroad gave an international touch to an already eclectic hockey career.
Career defined by determination and leadership
While Stefan Matteau's NHL statistics won't leap off the page, his presence in several locker rooms and leadership were felt throughout his playing career. Matteau's retirement marks the end of a gritty and dignified career, one that, though never rooted in the limelight, warranted a steadfast commitment to the game. Though the Cleveland Monsters move forward into the future, it is without their grizzled captain, but in gratitude for what he provided the team.

Stefan Matteau departs having worn an awful lot of jerseys and played an awful lot of parts—draft pick, NHL prospect, AHL veteran, foreign pro, and ultimately, team captain. Though he might not have become a household name in the NHL, his toughness and leadership provide a template for what it is to be a true professional in the game.

Did Hardik Pandya just confess to enjoying Samay Raina's controversial show, India's Got Latent?
India's Got Latent earned both cheers and jeers after controversial remarks in its early episodes. Yet in a recent Instagram reel, when Team India's powerful all-rounder Hardik Pandya chimed in on Samay Raina's uproarious YouTube show India's Got Latent, fans took notice. His reaction comes as Raina's series returns to YouTube after a four-month hiatus, this time on a dedicated clips channel. Despite the legal complaints and social-media firestorms, it is clear that, for some viewers, the show's mix of comedy and 'latent' remains unmissable. What did cricketer say about the show? In the clip shared by comedian Samay Raina on July 2, Pandya appears alongside fellow cricketers Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah, as well as chess grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi. 'Oh, I loved it, bro,' Pandya says, nodding in approval. His remark lands amid the video's many playful exchanges, one of which included Raina rating a fan's singing with 'zero marks from my side.' Pandya's comment undoubtedly depicts the show's star power, where even sports icons can get behind a comedy format that blends talent hunts with pop-culture cameos. The program recently resurfaced on a new ' India's Got Latent Clips' channel, after FIRs over objectionable on-air comments led Raina to remove episodes from the original. Having already garnered over half a million subscribers even after the show's four-month hiatus, the show's revival may yet be a possibility. Where's Hardik Pandya these days? Pandya, who recently led Mumbai Indians to the IPL 2025 playoffs, isn't part of India's current Test squad in England. Instead, he's spending time in the UK with brother Krunal and teammate Ishan Kishan, who's playing County cricket, as per Cric Tracker. With a break from international duties until India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh in August, Pandya's appearance in the reel adds a rare public sighting during his off-season, doubling as a reminder that even top athletes can make time for comedy and good times.

7-Foot Snake Halts Play During Sri Lanka Vs Bangladesh ODI In Colombo: WATCH
An unusual visitor brought the first ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to a sudden halt when a 7-foot snake slithered onto the field during Bangladesh's innings at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The incident occurred in the third over of Bangladesh's run chase, just as pacer Asitha Fernando was preparing to deliver his fourth ball. Players quickly alerted officials after spotting the snake near the point boundary, prompting immediate intervention by ground staff. Security and maintenance crews acted swiftly to safely remove the reptile, and play resumed after a brief delay. No players or officials were harmed. A 'Naagin Derby' Moment Reignited The bizarre interruption quickly went viral, with fans across platforms dubbing it another chapter in the long-standing 'Naagin Derby', a cheeky term referencing the sometimes tense and theatrical cricketing rivalry between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The term gained popularity during the 2018 Nidahas Trophy when Bangladeshi players performed a 'Naagin dance' celebration after a dramatic win against Sri Lanka. The snake's surprise appearance in Colombo brought back those memories, leading to a flurry of memes, jokes, and edited videos online. Snake Video Goes Viral The footage of the snake entering the ground has gone viral on social media. Clips showing umpires halting play and players backing away have been widely shared across X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube A Snake appeared on the field during the 1st Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Today. Who knows it might be Shakib Al Hasan who came in the form of snake to witness his team playing against their rivals Sri Lanka — Aryan Goel (@Aryan42832Goel) July 2, 2025 Match Highlights Despite the mid-match disruption, Sri Lanka showed dominance on the field: Charith Asalanka led the charge with a powerful 104-run century, anchoring Sri Lanka to a competitive total of 293/8. 20 hrs before car crash, Diogo Jota's last Instagram post was a love note to his new bride Rute Cardoso
The football world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota, who has died at the age of 28 following a car accident in Spain. Several Spanish media outlets reported the tragedy on Thursday, sending shockwaves through fans and the football community alike. Jota, known for his sharp instincts on the pitch and quiet charm off it, was considered one of the Premier League's brightest talents. Just two weeks ago, on June 22, 2025, he married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso, in a joyful ceremony. In what would become his final Instagram post, shared just 20 hours before news of the crash broke, he celebrated his family and the love they shared. That post has since gone viral, now serving as a heartbreaking reminder of a life cut tragically short. Diogo Jota death: Fatal crash in Zamora claims the lives of the footballer and his brother According to reports, the fatal accident took place on the A-52 highway in the province of Zamora, near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria. Diogo Jota had been travelling in a vehicle with his 26-year-old brother, André, who is also a professional footballer, when their car veered off the road and caught fire. Emergency services received multiple calls to the 1-1-2 Castilla y Leon hotline shortly after 12:30 p.m., reporting that a vehicle had left the road and was in flames. Zamora's Provincial Council later confirmed the incident in a statement, writing, 'Two young people die in an accident on the A-52 (Palacios de Sanabria)... They were 28 and 26 years old. RIP.' The fire reportedly spread to nearby vegetation, making the scene even more devastating. First responders from the Rionegro del Puente Fire Station attended the crash, but both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. 'A day we'll never forget': Jota's wedding video becomes his final Instagram post Adding to the heartbreak is the haunting timing of Jota's final Instagram post, a wedding video shared just 20 hours ago. On June 22, he married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso, in a beautiful ceremony in Porto. The couple, who share three children, looked radiant and full of joy as they celebrated their union surrounded by friends and family. Jota captioned the video: 'A day we will never forget.' The clip offers a glimpse into his wedding with Rute, beginning with her standing in a dreamy white gown against a stunning backdrop. A heartfelt voiceover guides viewers through the emotional day, one filled with tears, laughter, and celebration, as Diogo and Rute shared the moment with their three kids, and closest loved ones. Just five days ago, he also shared photos from the big day, writing, 'June 22, 2025. Yes to forever.' Heartbroken fans flood Diogo Jota's final post with messages of love What was meant to mark the beginning of a new chapter has now become a digital memorial, as fans from around the world flood the comments with tributes, broken hearts, and messages of condolence. Many have pointed out the painful irony that Jota's last public words were about a moment of happiness that came just days before tragedy struck. One user wrote, 'Diogo Jota's final tragic Instagram post was a video from his wedding day with his wife, whom he married less than two weeks ago. Why is life so cruel?' Another added, 'This was Diogo Jota's last post on Instagram 20 hours ago before his tragic accident. May God give his family and friends the strength to bear this pain.' An Instagram user mentioned, "Brother... I really never thought I was going to do this, but this is the saddest comment I have ever made.... Rest well, lad! I'm still in shock!" "Rest in peace; thank you for all the incredible moments. We will not forget you, Diogo," added one user. May his soul rest in peace, and may his final message of love live on in the hearts of those he left behind. To stay updated on the stories that are going viral, follow Indiatimes Trending.
