Morocco Supports Over 500,000 Small-Scale Farmers with Subsidized Feed
Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari announced the figures before the House of Representatives on Monday, addressing the mounting pressures small-scale herders face amid shifting weather conditions and market instability.
The subsidized feed program, rolled out in response to recurrent droughts, reaches a significant number of farmers who also rely on the government's free veterinary campaigns.
El Bouari reported that close to 17 million sheep and goats received vaccinations in recent drives, part of broader efforts to maintain animal health and protect rural livelihoods.
He also noted that nearly three-quarters of the Agricultural Development Fund's direct aid and incentives support small-scale farms.
The fund, often seen as the engine behind Morocco's rural resilience, channels resources to those with limited land and low livestock numbers.
El Bouari also talked about plans for a national program set to launch in the 2025–2026 season.
Designed as an integrated and long-term response, the initiative will center on solidarity-based agriculture, with the state fully financing animal production projects.
Authorities hope to reverse the decline in livestock numbers and help herders rebuild their flocks over the next few years.
At the heart of these efforts is the 'Generation Green' strategy, which the minister described as a roadmap tailored for small and medium-scale farmers. According to ministry data, 80% of Moroccan herders own fewer than 30 head of sheep or goats, a reality the strategy seeks to address through targeted support, infrastructure, and access to resources.
In February, Morocco officially announced the cancellation of the Eid Al Adha sacrifice, citing the ongoing drought and related difficulties that have severely affected the country's agricultural seasons and overall economy over the past six years.

UM6P Teams Up With Maghreb Steel and France's Naval Group to Bolster Maritime Technologies
Rabat — Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Maghreb Steel, and France's Naval Group signed a preliminary cooperation agreement in Rabat last week, to bolster Morocco's industrial sovereignty and defense capabilities. The partnership, signed on July 9, lays the groundwork for joint research and innovation projects in maritime technologies — spanning both civilian and military applications — and aligns with Morocco's Royal Atlantic Initiative aimed at developing the country's strategic industries. At the heart of the agreement are three priorities: advancing applied research, enhancing industrial skills, and creating a technological foundation for shipbuilding. Research and development activities will take place primarily at UM6P 's Benguerir campus, integrating the expertise of Naval Group and the industrial know-how of Maghreb Steel. The collaboration targets key areas such as advanced materials, innovative manufacturing techniques, and specialized maritime solutions — seen as critical to supporting Morocco's growing ambitions in the defense and shipbuilding sectors. The agreement was also endorsed by France's Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), with its director, Emmanuel Chiva, present at the signing ceremony. During his visit, Chiva announced the creation of a Moroccan-French Joint Armament Committee, tasked with steering and overseeing the projects under this agreement. The committee is expected to play a vital role in coordinating strategic priorities, promoting technology transfer, and fostering co- innovation in sensitive areas like defense, energy, and manufacturing. A step toward industrial sovereignty The agreement reflects Morocco's broader vision of establishing an industrial and technological defense base (BITD) that reduces reliance on imports and strengthens local capabilities. Following the signing, Morocco's Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudyi, hosted a high-level meeting with the French delegation. Senior Moroccan military and security officials also attended the discussions, during which they endorsed the proposal to create the joint armament committee. This institutional mechanism is seen as a key tool to advance Morocco's sovereign ambitions in defense, ensuring the training of Moroccan engineers, fostering local innovation, and supporting the country's resilience in the face of global geopolitical challenges. Beyond its technical and industrial dimensions, the agreement exemplifies the deepening political and strategic relationship between Morocco and France. Both countries have expressed their commitment to building a strong bilateral partnership that can address emerging challenges and opportunities in defense and advanced industries. Under HM the King's Leadership, Morocco Establishes Itself as Emerging Economic Power
The major strides made by Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI have enabled the Kingdom to enhance its international attractiveness and establish itself as an emerging economic power, said African Development Bank (AfDB) President Akinwumi Adesina. Thanks to its political stability and growing appeal, Morocco has succeeded in effectively mobilizing capital by diversifying its sources of financing, Adesina told MAP on the occasion of the celebration of the Throne Day. This positive momentum, he noted, has resulted in a significant increase in foreign direct investment (FDI), a sustained development of the capital markets, and greater reliance on international financing and public-private partnerships. He further recalled that over the past two decades, Morocco's gross domestic product (GDP) has doubled, alongside the development of world-class infrastructure that reflects the Kingdom's bold ambitions. In this regard, he cited landmark projects such as the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex, one of the largest in the world, the strategic ports of Tanger Med and Nador West Med, both major intercontinental maritime hubs, as well as Africa's only high-speed rail line. These achievements, he said, illustrate Morocco's emerging trajectory. Adesina also emphasized that substantial investments have been strategically directed toward high-potential sectors such as the automotive industry, digital economy, and renewable energy.
