Curnow ‘raised' trade, but Suns can't see it happening
Gold Coast was sceptical about their ability to do a trade for Curnow given they expected to have little draft capital this year – due to academy recruits that would swallow their picks – and no scope to accommodate a player on Curnow's $1 million-plus wage for the next four years, according a Suns source with knowledge of the Curnow situation speaking off record.
Nine News reported that Curnow, 28, raised with the Blues that he was open to a trade with the Suns, but that Carlton had shut down any prospect of trading the two-time Coleman medallist. His willingness to be traded is said to have now piqued the interest of other clubs.
Curnow has had a challenging year at the under-performing Blues, having endured surgeries during the pre-season that set back his campaign.
Carlton's performances and injuries also have made it harder for Curnow, who often has been the sole dangerous forward in attack as his teammate Harry McKay has often been grounded.
The Suns would need to trade out an expensive player to pay Curnow, and they arguably have little need for a player in his position as key forward given they have Ben King, who has next year to run on his contract and will then be a free agent and talented young key forward Jed Walter.
The Curnow situation comes as Carlton faces likely change in their football department, with incoming chief executive Graham Wright looking closely at the football program.
Senior coach Michael Voss's position has not been guaranteed beyond this season despite a contract for 2026, but Wright is examining far more than just the coach and his assistants.

Brisbane Lions veteran Dayne Zorko fined for ‘insulting and profane language' against Western Bulldogs
Brisbane Lions veteran Dayne Zorko has copped a $3000 fine for his foul-mouth tirade towards the officials bench last week. The AFL deemed Zorko used 'insulting and profane language' as he exited the field of play during the last quarter of his team's 10-point win over the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba. 'The AFL reminds all players that the AFL has no tolerance for abusive or insulting conduct towards AFL umpires and other match officials,' the AFL said in a statement. Zorko played a key role in Brisbane's premiership-winning campaign last year, and he is averaging a career-high 26.7 disposals per game this season. The Lions sit second on the ladder with a 13-4-1 record, and they'll be aiming to bank their fifth win on the trot when they take on Gold Coast in Saturday's QClash at People First Stadium. Meanwhile, Hawthorn captain James Sicily can escape with a $3750 fine for his off-the-ball hit on Carlton's Blake Acres in Thursday's 24-point win over the Blues. The rough conduct charge was graded as intentional conduct, low impact and body contact. The Lions play local rivals Gold Coast in a crucial finals-shaping clash on Saturday afternoon.

Same old Suns? Fagan dismisses Lions' QClash dominance
Premiership coach Chris Fagan insists the Brisbane Lions' overwhelming dominance of neighbours Gold Coast means nothing ahead of their high-stakes AFL meeting. The Lions have beaten the Suns in 12 of their past 13 games, wiping them aside once already this season on their way to second place on the ladder. Damien Hardwick's side was thrashed by Adelaide last week and will likely drop out of the top eight with another QClash loss. But, chasing the club's maiden finals appearance, they boast wins over top-placed Collingwood, Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs and the Crows this season. Hardwick this week declared his side was "not the same old Suns, it's the brand new Suns and we've got a big step (to take) this week". Brisbane's midfield has dominated the Suns' star on-ballers in recent times, with Josh Dunkley expertly limiting the damage of Suns wrecking ball Matt Rowell. Fagan is taking nothing for granted, though. "I'm sort of not interested in history because the only thing that matters is tomorrow, and the truth is they've beaten some pretty good teams," he said. "They're a much better version of themselves than we've played in a long time. "It's a big game." The Suns will be without star pair Touk Miller and Daniel Rioli, but will welcome back vice-captain Sam Collins and Lachie Weller from injuries. Alex Davies, Jy Farrar and Nick Holman also return, with Rioli and Sam Clohesy out injured, and David Swallow, Jed Walter and Ben Jepson dropped. Brisbane, ahead of a tough finish to the regular season, are within two competition points of the Magpies and have regained in-form forward Zac Bailey after a one-match suspension. Kai Lohmann (calf) pulled up sore after Thursday's session, Fagan bringing Conor McKenna into the mix and persisting with his dual-ruck "experiment" of Darcy Fort and Oscar McInerney. Lohmann, a star of last season's premiership run, was rediscovering his best form after an injury-hit opening to 2025. "He'll be out for a week or two I'd imagine," Fagan said. "I don't think it was a major thing, but calves are tricky. "We've coped well, and we'll continue to do so. "We've got a bit of flexibility there ... it's good because you never know what's going to happen down the track, so you've always got to be able to cope." The coach said Keidean Coleman will play VFL for the Lions this week and would not be rushed back after hiccups following a long-term knee injury.

Magpies won't ‘stand still' on recruiting stars
Collingwood coach Craig McRae says he won't 'stand still' in chasing rival players after reports the Magpies are interested in luring Carlton defender Jack Silvagni. Silvagni, a famous Carlton name, is a restricted free agent at season's end and has reportedly been tabled a four-year extension by the Blues. The 128-game Blue has been sidelined with groin soreness but had previously been enjoying a career rejuvenation in defence. McRae has been an open book when it comes to the Magpies' stance on recruiting rival players and doubled down again on Friday. The premiership coach said whether it was Silvagni or another player, the Magpies were always looking to bolster their list. 'I've said opening many times about looking for free agents, unrestricted free agents is something we want to continue to explore,' he said. Collingwood coach Craig McRae was open about his club's interest in recruiting rival players, including Carlton's Jack Silvagni. Michael Klein Credit: News Corp Australia 'Whether it's Jack or someone else, we'll step into that because we don't want to stand still. 'We want to better than what we are now and next year – we want to look at avenues to bring players in that we think can do that.' McRae confirmed he was part of list management discussions and said he would meet with Silvagni if the Blue was the right fit in black and white. 'I am heavily involved in those situations,' he said. 'Just making sure this is the right platform and environment for players to make them feel like they can come and be the best version of themselves. 'I would meet with Jack, yeah, if that was something that was important to us.' Carlton is set to lose ruckman Tom De Koning to St Kilda and it also was reported to have shut down forward Charlie Curnow exploring a move to Gold Coast. The potential arrival of Silvagni would be a huge boost to Collingwood, which has reshuffled its cards in defence as a result of injury this year.
