Passenger arrested with 16 live snakes at Mumbai airport
A passenger was caught with 16 live snakes, including Kenyan sand boas and Honduran milk snakes, at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, an official said on Saturday.
The Customs staff intercepted the flyer after he arrived in the city from Thailand capital Bangkok on Friday night, he said.
The passenger's baggage had cotton bags stuffed with 16 live snakes, including two Kenyan sand boas, five rhinoceros rat snakes, three albino snakes, two Honduran milk snakes, one California kingsnake, two garter snakes, and one albino rat snake, he said.
The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and Customs are working to send back the reptiles to the source country as per the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, the official said.
Experts from RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare) helped in the handling and identification of the snakes, he added.

Carcasses of deer and wild boar seized by Forest Department officials
Forest Department officials in Bengaluru seized the carcasses of deer and wild boar along with 74 kg of deer meat on Sunday. Following instructions of Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre, a team of department officials from the Bengaluru Circle intercepted a car near the Bannerghatta-Nice Road junction. Upon inspection they found the carcasses of four spotted deer and a wild boar in the car. The officials arrested the driver of the car, Pratap, 31, and during interrogation, it was revealed that there were more deer carcasses and deer meat stored in a shed in C.K. Palya. The officials later raided the shed and found the carcasses and nearly 74 kg of deer meat. In total, the carcasses of nine deer and one wild boar, along with deer meat was recovered. In addition, one double-barrelled gun, one single-barrell gun, 10 cartridges, a bike, and another car were seized. The owner of the shed, Bhimappa, and two other persons, Balaraju and Ramesh, who had kept the deer meat, are missing. A case has been registered against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act. Officials said that Mr. Khandre instructed the Forest Department to conduct an operation based on specific information that a group of persons was killing deer in the Bannerghatta forest area and selling deer meat. The operation was led by Chief Conservator of Forests Bengaluru Circle. S. Sivashankar, Bengaluru Urban Deputy Conservator of Forests N. Ravindra Kumar, and Assistant Conservator of Forests V. Ganesh.

Bengaluru forest officials bust poaching gang; seize 74 kg of meat, nab 1
Forest department officials busted a poaching operation and seized 74 kg of wild meat near Bengaluru on Sunday. During the operation, officials seized carcasses of nine deer and one wild boar, along with two rifles, cartridges, two cars, and two motorbikes. Based on a tip-off that a gang of poachers was hunting wild animals and selling meat, a car was inspected at the Bannerghatta-NICE Road junction in the city. An accused identified as Prathap, 31, was arrested after carcasses of four deer and a boar were found in the car. Based on his statement, a raid was carried out at a shed in CK Palya. At the shed, the police found more carcasses of deer, a double-barrel gun, a single-barrel gun, 10 cartridges, one car, and two motorbikes. Shed-owner Bheemappa and two other accused involved in the crime – Balaraju and Ramesh – are said to have fled from the spot ahead of the raid by the Forest department. The accused were allegedly involved in poaching animals for meat in the forest areas near Bannerghatta National Park and in the Kolar district. A case was registered under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act.
