Ex-MLA Abbas Ansari's pleaagainst conviction rejected
2
Varanasi: Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (Gangster/MP-MLA Court) in Mau district on Saturday dismissed appeal of gangster-turned-politician
Mukhtar Ansari
's son and former MLA, Abbas Ansari, against his conviction in a 2022 hate speech case.
The court, however, while granting bail to Ansari and co-accused Mansoor, allowed further hearing on Jul 25 of the plea challenging the quantum of punishment awarded to Ansari by the CJM (MP-MLA) court .
The decision keeps up Ansari camp's hope alive regarding restoration of his Assembly membership, which was terminated after the CJM court sentenced him to two years' imprisonment on May 31. Abbas was sentenced for delivering a hate speech at a public meeting in Pahadpur during electioneering in Mar 2022 when he contested as a Samajwadi Party-Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party alliance candidate for the Mau Sadar assembly seat.
After the court delivered its order on Saturday, Ansari's advocate, Daroga Singh, said, "Additional District and Sessions Judge (Gangster/MP-MLA Court) Rajeev Kumar Vats dismissed our appeal challenging the conviction in this case. However, it continued the stay against the quantum of punishment sentenced by the CJM (MP-MLA) court and fixed Jul 25 as next date for further hearing. The court also granted bail to Ansari and the co-accused on furnishing bonds of Rs 50,000 each.

Daroga Singh said, "After conviction, court fixes quantum of punishment. The CJM court sentenced the maximum punishment, which we challenged at the session court. On the basis of facts, we have challenged it. Since court has full authority to minimise quantum of punishment or even cancel it, hope for justice is alive."
Ansari lost his assembly membership when the CJM (MP-MLA) court of Mau on May 31 awarded him two years' imprisonment in the case of hate speech lodged against him on Mar 4, 2022.
While contesting the assembly election from the Mau Sadar seat, Ansari, in his Paharpur public meeting speech, targeted a govt officer on Mar 3, 2022, and its video went viral on social media, leading to lodging of the case the next day. The co-accused, Mansoor, who was proposer of Ansari in the 2022 assembly election, was awarded similar punishment.
Ansari emerged victorious in 2022 assembly polls from the Mau Sadar seat as a Samajwadi Party-Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party alliance candidate, but went behind bars following arrest by Prayagraj unit of enforcement directorate in a money laundering case in Feb 2023. He was released from jail in March this year.

Debock MD had fought LS election in 2019: ED
1 2 Jaipur: Mukesh Kumar , chairman and managing director of Debock Industries Limited, contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat on a Shiv Sena ticket. During his campaign, he enlisted Rakhi Sawant as a star campaigner, but he only received 4,600 votes and secured seventh place. This was revealed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which concluded its raids at the Jaipur-based company. Mukesh also introduced himself as Mukesh Manveer Singh in business circles of Rajasthan and other parts. ED officials said that there could be a possibility that Mukesh aimed to conceal his financial scams exceeding Rs 100 crore by entering politics. "Presently, we are only investigating Rs 100 crore scam, though we are aware of some of his previous cheating cases lodged at various police stations in Jaipur." TOI obtained a copy of the 2019 Tonk-Sawai Madhopur election results in which Kumar received 4,600 votes and lost his security deposit. During that time, Kumar invited Rakhi Sawant as a campaigner and organised a vehicle rally at Sawai Madhopur too. Regarding his name, the ED authorities said that it is not clear why he was changing his name from Mukesh Kumar to Mukesh Manveer Singh. "Many times, people use this trick to avoid their debts. He was introducing himself as Mukesh Manveer Singh in the business circles of Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan," the officer said. Meanwhile, ED raids resulted in the seizure of Rs 78 lakh, four luxury vehicles, and property papers as proceeds of the Rs 100 crore scam. "A few other things are on our radar. A few properties at Chaksu and Tonk could also be the proceeds of crime. We will urge people not to invest in this group or its properties," the officer said.

Man fakes robbery after losing 1.6L in online betting, arrested
1 2 3 Jaipur: A 32-year-old man was arrested Sunday for staging a fake robbery to recover money he lost in online gambling. The accused, Siyaram Meena, called the police control room claiming he was assaulted and robbed of Rs 2 lakh by men in two vehicles in the Nai Ki Thadi area under Jaysinghpura Khor police station. The incident was reported on July 5. Meena alleged that his motorcycle was stopped and a bag containing cash was snatched. SHO Mukesh Kumar and his team reached the spot to investigate. However, no signs of a scuffle or robbery were found, and eyewitness accounts contradicted Meena's statement. CCTV footage showed him riding with the bag and later without it, raising suspicion and leading to his arrest. When questioned about the cash, Meena claimed he was carrying two bundles of Rs 500 notes. Officers said that Rs 2 lakh would require four such bundles, exposing his lack of preparation in fabricating the lie. Confronted with mounting evidence, Meena broke down and confessed. He admitted that he lost Rs 1.60 lakh in online gambling through a betting ID taken from his friend Mohit. Fearing pressure and embarrassment, he deleted the betting app from his phone and invented the robbery to avoid repayment. The accused also provided false vehicle numbers to mislead investigators. Police later discovered that the so-called crime scene and the alleged suspects were all figments of Meena's imagination. The case has been registered under sections pertaining to furnishing false information to the police. Officers said Meena's addiction to gambling led him down the path of deceit and legal trouble. Police have warned the public against misusing emergency services and assured that stern action will be taken against those attempting to divert police resources with fake reports.

Pakistan honours 'Kargil hero' whose body it refused to accept
NEW DELHI: Pakistan army chief Asim Munir and other senior officers on Saturday paid "heartfelt tribute" to Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed on the occasion of his 26th "martyrdom" anniversary for what Islamabad describes as his unwavering courage and patriotism during the 1999 Kargil war. However, it's learnt that Pakistan had refused to accept his body that was found on Tiger Hill in the Dras sub-sector. According to a press release issued by the Indian embassy in Washington on July 15, 1999, Pakistan authorities adamantly refused to acknowledge the involvement of Pakistan army regulars in the misadventure in Kargil and as a part of that process did not initially acknowledge Khan's identification by India through correspondence found on him. "It is clear that Pakistan is fully aware of the identities of these bodies but they do not wish to acknowledge this fact as it would immediately expose their army's involvement in Kargil. Hence, their persistent and callous refusal to do so, they are doing great disservice to the families of their soldiers and to the traditions of armed forces everywhere," the embassy had said in its statement. India had approached Pakistan on July 12, saying it would like to hand over the body to the Pakistan army. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Subsequently, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) approached India on July 13, stating that the Pakistan govt had requested them to contact India for handing over the bodies of the two officers about which they had heard. "The Pakistani request did not specify the names and identities of the two officers, despite the information being available to them. The reason is obvious. The Pakistan authorities realised that if they conceded the identities of these two officers, it would demolish the myth that the Pakistan army was not involved in Kargil," said the embassy.
