Significant progress in ONGC well control operations at Guwahati site
Guwahati:
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited
(ONGC) has made significant headway in its well control operations at RDS#147A, with the flow rate of gas having reduced substantially, marking a critical step forward in containment efforts.
The international expert team from
CUDD Pressure Control
, USA, who arrived on site on Friday, has conducted a preliminary assessment of the situation and reviewed all actions undertaken by ONGC teams so far. The experts have expressed their agreement with the strategy and execution carried out to date, reaffirming the effectiveness of ONGC's approach to safely managing the well.
Based on the forward plan jointly developed, extensive site preparations are underway to facilitate the next phase of action. The process of removing tubulars from the well has commenced, and mobilization of cranes for the removal of tubing from the rig floor is currently in progress.
Water blanketing continues around the clock as a key safety measure. Additionally, flood level monitoring of the nearby Dikhow River remains ongoing, ensuring all operations are aligned with environmental and safety protocols.
ONGC is continuously monitoring the Low Explosive Limit (LEL) levels of air around the well site through
real-time gas detectors
to ensure safety. Medical assistance is being provided at the relief camp to support all those in need.
ONGC remains committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational excellence, working closely with international experts and local authorities to bring the well under complete control at the earliest.

ONGC pushes ahead with well control operations, despite heavy rains, critical progress continues
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) continues to make progress at the site of well number RDS#147A , with teams working around the clock despite challenging weather conditions. The extra-long boom crane, essential for safely removing tubing stacked in the rig derrick, has reached the well site from Guwahati on Monday. Its arrival marks a crucial step forward in clearing the rig from the well for the final capping operation. Today's heavy and continuous rainfall created a slushy work environment, yet ONGC's Regional Crisis Management Team (RCMT), along with international experts from Cudd Pressure Control , remained fully engaged. Their persistent efforts are ensuring that the clearing of the remaining rig equipment continues without pause. ONGC stated , 'As floodwaters rise, ONGC teams are actively working to keep the critical RCMT pump operational. Encouragingly, a noticeable reduction in gas pressure has been recorded, an important and hopeful sign that paves the way for a safer and more controlled capping process. Simultaneously, mobilisation of additional specialised equipment such as the Athey Wagon, Bulldozer, etc., for the capping operation is progressing steadily, further strengthening ONGC's operational preparedness '. ONGC remains fully committed to bringing the situation to a safe and successful resolution. ONGC team continues well-capping efforts despite poor weather
Dibrugarh: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is continuing their relentless efforts to contain the blowout at well RDS 147A in Sivasagar, which entered its twelfth day on Monday. Despite challenging weather conditions and rising floodwaters, significant progress has been made toward the final capping operation. One of the most encouraging developments has been a noticeable reduction in gas pressure at the well site. The arrival of a crucial extra-long boom crane from Guwahati on Monday evening marked a pivotal moment in the containment efforts. The specialised equipment, essential for safely removing tubings stacked in the rig derrick, represents a major step forward in clearing the rig from the well site to prepare for the final capping operation. "The final capping operation will start soon and experts from ONGC, other experts from India and foreign experts are preparing the groundwork," said GM ONGC Captain Satendra Sangwan. Monday's operations faced additional challenges as heavy and continuous rainfall created slushy working conditions across the site. However, ONGC's regional crisis management team (RCMT), working alongside three international experts from Cudd Pressure Control, USA, maintained their full engagement despite adverse weather conditions. The persistent efforts of the combined team have ensured that the clearing of remaining rig equipment continues uninterrupted.
