Maharashtra fuel costs dip slightly amid persistent high rates
The latest petrol and diesel rates, effective from 6 AM today, June 27, 2025, have been officially announced statewide. Authorities urge motorists to verify the updated costs specific to their location before refuelling.
While providing modest relief, today's figures confirm petrol continues to exceed 104 rupees per litre across most major urban centres in the state, with diesel generally priced above 91 rupees.
Notable examples include Ahmednagar at 104.59 rupees for petrol and 91.12 for diesel, Akola at 104.64 and 91.18 rupees, and Amravati at 104.88 and 91.41 rupees respectively. Aurangabad reports petrol at 104.53 and diesel at 91.05 rupees.
Regional variations persist. Bhandara's petrol costs 104.67 rupees, while Beed sees a higher rate of 105.50 rupees; diesel in these cities is priced at 91.21 and 92.03 rupees respectively. Mumbai City offers the lowest observed petrol price at 103.50 rupees and diesel at 90.03 rupees.
Conversely, Nandurbar recorded the highest petrol price at 105.97 rupees, with Palghar seeing the peak diesel cost of 99.43 rupees. Other cities like Buldhana, Chandrapur, Dhule, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Hingoli, Jalgaon, Jalna, Kolhapur, Latur, Nagpur, Nanded, Nashik, Osmanabad, Parbhani, Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudurg, Solapur, Thane, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal show petrol prices ranging within this spectrum.
These daily fluctuations are driven primarily by volatile international crude oil markets, compounded by local factors including Value-Added Tax (VAT), state levies, and transportation expenses. The slight decrease noted today offers consumers a minor respite, though rates remain substantially elevated. Fuel prices are dynamically adjusted each morning to reflect prevailing global and domestic market conditions.

Our ties with US have weathered many transitions and challenges: India on Trump's criticism
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) India today appeared to brush aside US President Donald Trump's use of strong language against India, saying the partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges, and expressed confidence that the bilateral relationship will continue to progress. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, answering a barrage of questions on President Trump's negative comments, especially terming India as a 'dead economy', said: 'India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership anchored in shared interests, democratic values, and robust people-to-people ties. 'This partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges. We remain focused on the substantive agenda that our two countries have committed to and are confident that the relationship will continue to move forward.' On Thursday, President Trump had said that India and Russia could 'take their dead economies down together', hours after announcing that he would levy 25% tariffs on Indian imports from Friday, August 1. Countering the US President's statement, Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal said yesterday that India is seen as an economic 'bright spot' in the world 'All things not good', Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that India would be paying a tariff of 25% from August 1, plus a penalty for buying military hardware and energy from Russia. Trump had also said that the U.S. and India 'don't do a lot of trade'. In 2024, India and the U.S. conducted trade in goods and services worth $186 billion, with a surplus of $41 billion in India's favour The MEA spokesperson said they have taken note of Trump's announcement of a 25 percent tariff on Indian goods, adding that the government is studying and reviewing the move. He also chose not to respond to the U.S. President's taunt about Pakistan potentially selling oil to India. 'We have nothing to say,' the spokesperson said. India also stood by its decision to purchase oil from Russia, with the spokesperson saying that India's choices are guided by the prevailing global scenario and the best available deals in the market to secure the country's energy needs. "Our ties with any country stand on their own merit and should not be seen through the prism of a third country. As far as India-Russia relations are concerned, we have a steady and time-tested partnership," the spokesperson said. 'In securing our energy needs, we are guided by what is on offer in the markets and by the prevailing global circumstances,' he added. On India-US defence cooperation, Jaiswal highlighted the robust nature of India-U.S. defence ties, which he said have significantly deepened in recent years. "There is considerable potential for this partnership to expand further," he noted. 'We have a strong defence partnership with the U.S. which has been strengthening over the last several years. There is potential for this partnership to grow further under the India-U.S. COMPACT for the 21st century.' UNI RN

Trump fires BLS' Erika McEntarfer over jobs numbers
New York, Aug 1 (UNI) President Donald Trump has fired Dr. Erika McEntarfer, the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, accusing her, without evidence, of manipulating the monthly jobs reports for 'political purposes'. The BLS' monthly labour report on Friday showed that the US economy added only 73,000 jobs in July, far below expectations. It also sharply revised down the employment growth that had been previously reported in May and June – by a combined 258,000 jobs, reports CNN. After the revisions, the jobs report showed the weakest pace of hiring for any three-month period since the pandemic recession in 2020. 'In my opinion, today's Jobs Numbers were RIGGED in order to make the Republicans, and ME, look bad,' Trump said in a Truth Social post while calling the revisions a 'mistake'. Although the May and June jobs numbers were worse than initially believed, revisions are normal in this process. The BLS' initial monthly jobs estimates are often based on incomplete data, so they are revised twice after the initial report — followed by an annual revision every February. Additionally, BLS economists use a formula to smooth out jobs' numbers for seasonal variations and that can exacerbate revisions when they fall outside economists' expectations. 'McEntarfer said there were only 73,000 Jobs added (a shock!) but, more importantly, that a major mistake was made by them, 258,000 Jobs downward, in the prior two months,' Trump continued. 'Similar things happened in the first part of the year, always to the negative. The Economy is BOOMING under 'TRUMP.'' Trump said McEntarfer 'faked' the jobs numbers before the election to try to boost former Vice President Kamala Harris' chances in the 2024 presidential election. 'She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified. Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate, they can't be manipulated for political purposes,' Trump said on Truth Social Friday. McEntarfer was confirmed by the Senate 86-8 in January 2024 for a term of four years. UNI XC SS
