In a public statement, the ROP advised: "For users of Sultan Said bin Taimur Road, low visibility and sand accumulation on some sections of the road from Al Barakat Bridge to Al Zahia area in Adam due to active winds. Please be careful." Drivers are advised to adjust their speed, maintain a safe distance, and be aware of potential hazards on these affected stretches of road.

EA leading a drive for growing 4 million local trees in Dhofar
Salalah: The Environment Authority in Dhofar Governorate is heading a campaign for growing some 4 million local trees from seeds in the mountains of the governorate, notably in the wilayats of Salalah, Mirbat, Taqa, Rakhyut and Dhalkut. The campaign will last for 24 July. The campaign is organised in cooperation with Dhofar Municipality , OQ PI , Wa'ai Initiative and the local community. The campaign comes within the objectives of the national initiative for planting 10 million trees in the Sultanate of Oman to curb desertification and enhance biodiversity in the Dhofar Governorate. Zahran bin Ahmed Al Abdulsalam, Acting Director General of environment in Dhofar Governorate, said that the campaign continues coinciding with the national initiative for planting 10 million trees. He said that growing trees from seeds before the start of Khareef season would ensure the success of the campaign and represents an efficient strategy for early growing of the trees from seeds. The growing of plants before the Khareef season help stabilise the soil and curb its erosion due to heavy rains, which help in combating desertification and in preserving the soil fertility.

Gates of Wadi Qafifah Dam opened for drainage of water
Ibra: The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate opened the gates of Wadi Qafifah Dam in the Wilayat of Ibra for partial drainage of water. A large amount of water had accumulated in the dam due to the heavy discharge of wadis in the wilayats of Ibra and Dima Wal Taein, Ibra registered 16 mm of rains while Wilayat of Dima Wal Taein got 5 mm of rainfall. The drainage of the water from the dam, which has a storage capacity of over 926, 000 cubic metre, was aimed to prepare the dam from the flow of wadis during the upcoming days. The wilayats of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate are currently receiving rains leading to the overflow of the wadis , in Wadi Qafifah and Wadi Al Jarwala and others. It is worth mentioning that the Wadi Qafifah Dam, which was opened in 2023, is under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. The length of the dam is 122 metres and the height is 24. 3 metres. The dam has two vents for drainage with diameter of 630 mm and drainage capacity of 3.55 cubic metres per second.---ONA -----ONA

Efforts to enhance road network between Al Wusta with Dhofar
Haima: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, represented by the Roads Department in Al Wusta Governorate, has intensified efforts to enhance the readiness of the road network connecting the governorate with Dhofar. This initiative aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and road user safety during the Khareef Dhofar (monsoon season). Eng. Bakheet Salim Al Awaid, Director of the Roads Department in Al Wusta Governorate, stated that since early June, the department has been implementing a comprehensive field plan in collaboration with maintenance companies to improve road efficiency and accommodate increased vehicle traffic during Khareef season. In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he explained that the plan includes deploying 11 specialized vehicles to remove dust and sand accumulations from various road networks across the governorate. Additionally, technical teams and emergency equipment have been stationed to operate around the clock, addressing any sudden road disruptions.
