Hunter just dropped the perfect cowboy boot wellies for festival season

Daily Mirror3 days ago
With plenty of major festivals still to come this summer, a good pair of wellies is essential and Hunter just dropped the perfect cowboy boot ones to complete your festival 'fits
Whilst some of the major festivals have already been and gone, there's still plenty more heading our way this summer with Leeds and Reading Festival, Boomtown, Bloodstock and Creamfields still to come. That means there's still plenty of opportunities to wear your favourite festival gear, and a great pair of wellies is an absolute non-negotiable.
With cowboy boots still dominating as one of the top trending footwear styles of summer, it's no surprise that many people were planning on wearing theirs to their next festival. That's why Hunter's new l Represent X Hunter collaboration is an absolute must, combining country with countryside for a stylish take on the classic wellies.
Keeping all the waterproof, mud-proof and outdoor ready technical features that Hunter wellies are known for, the Represent X Hunter boots swap the traditional wellington boot look for a much more country-fied design that Beyonce herself would be proud of. They feature a low block heel, with raised stitching-inspired designs up the sides, a braided effect up the sides and even pull on tabs on the sides.
The only difference between these boots and your usual cowboy boots is that they're made entirely from natural rubber, with a matte finish. There are also two different styles to choose from, and both boots come in a choice of black or khaki green, so you can pair them with all of your festival 'fits.
The Represent X Hunter Original Short Boots are priced at £250 and have a mid-shin length and are ideal if you're planning on wading through mud or expecting more rainfall. Alternatively the Represent X Hunter Play Short Boots are more affordable at £220, and have an ankle-length shaft that's great if you aren't planning on tackling deep water and mud but that will still keep your feet dry.
Elsewhere at Schuh, you can pick up a pair of Juju Jellies' Dolly boots for £40, which come in a black and white colourway, with stitching details and contrasting panels for that true western-inspired look. Meanwhile at Debenhams, the Absolute Footwear Waterproof Slip On Cowboy Wellington Boots have been slashed from £30.99 to £25, and come in both black and leopard print.
However, we're absolutely expecting to see the Represent X Hunter boots everywhere this festival season, with the beauty of them being that they'll still be wearable long after you've packed up your tent and headed home. Perfect for drizzly autumn weather and even chilly snow, you can wear them for everything from dog walks to work commutes in the autumn and winter months, making sure you get plenty of wear out of them.

James Whale obituary: James Whale: Broadcasting 'motor mouth' who entertained and offended in equal measure

Broadcaster and radio personality James Whale has died aged 74 following a cancer diagnosis, his agent confirmed on career spanned six decades, including stints on the BBC airwaves as well as stations such as LBC and TalkTV colleague and friend Mike Graham read an obituary on air and paid tribute to Whale, who had stage four kidney for being outspoken and often controversial, more recently Whale went on to front his own podcast and night-time weekly radio show on TalkRadio. Whale was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2000 and then, in 2020, he revealed it had recent months, Whale had documented his deteriorating health on social media, his Talk TV programme and his podcast Tales of the first gained prominence in the 1980s as the host of The James Whale Radio Show on Radio Aire in Leeds, before hosting a night-time radio show on TalkSport in the late mid-late TV stations first started airing programmes after midnight in the late 1980s, one presenter seized the opportunity to gain fame - and infamy - with a type of live late-night show that hadn't been seen on British screens the James Whale Radio Show, the presenter was a cross between a shock jock, talk show host, gonzo roving reporter and working men's club in 1988, Whale's live, often chaotic programme was like a daytime TV format gone rogue: one which had lost its inhibitions and any qualms about upholding the usual standards of taste and decency. Some said it had completely lost its morals. But many viewers loved took calls from - and unceremoniously cut off - callers. He sparred with celebrities and expert guests, dallied with scantily-clad "bimbos", and offered combative, sardonic or flippant takes on topical issues, from immigration to teenage gambling to sex short, it entertained and offended in equal James Whale Radio Show had "Radio" in its title because it went out live from Leeds on both Radio Aire and ITV simultaneously at 1am on a Friday night, as people sat at home after coming back from the pub. 'Mighty Mouth' At first, it only went out in Yorkshire and the north-west, but was soon picked up elsewhere as ratings went up and other ITV regional counterparts it arrived on London Weekend Television in April 1989, the press started to take notice.A review in The Stage newspaper noted how "Mighty Mouth" Whale had taken a "critical hammering" since transferring across the ITV it added that, because it was broadcast so long after any family audience had gone to bed, it was pointless to complain about the show's "crudities, ruderies, or the occasional swear word".In fact, the reviewer found Whale "the liveliest natural new personality to turn up on TV for ages", saying he possessed "a surfeit of punch and charisma". The smooth-voiced Whale, from Surrey, had been presenting on Radio Aire since 1982, after cutting his teeth on stations in Middlesbrough, Derby and Newcastle's Metro Radio from 1973-80, he set the template for phone-ins that gave callers short shrift. Before that, Whale's first proper job in broadcasting had been to found a radio station inside Top Shop at London's Oxford Circus in 1970 - the country's first in-store 70s and 80s were the ages of larger-than-life radio DJs, and Whale's stint at Radio Aire saw him named local DJ of the year at the Sony Radio Awards in 1988. Moving to the small screen that year, he gained a national reputation, for better or for worse. 'Filth and degradation' As one sketch duo who appeared on The James Whale Radio Show half-joked, the programme was known for its "controversy, filth and degradation - and that's just behind the scenes".It featured regular appearances from comics like Bernard Manning, Steve Coogan and Charlie Chuck, while Whale threw singers Wayne Hussey and Lemmy off for turning up host even stormed off his own show once, frustrated with things going wrong behind the scenes. But he also revelled in the chaos, and (usually) steered the show through it with some James Whale Radio Show lasted until 1992, with the host keeping much of its flavour for another late-night format, Whale On, from 1993 to it was up against other, hipper shows like The Word, and a balding, middle-aged, middle-class man being risqué suddenly seemed less cutting-edge. In 1995, Whale went back to radio with an opinionated late-night phone-in on Talk Radio. He hit the headlines two years later when it was revealed that a female listener who appeared on air to invite him to "pop round for a coffee" was in fact his lover. Whale's wife of almost 30 years, Melinda, stuck with presenter was one of the few non-sport presenters to survive when the station rebranded as TalkSport in 2000, but was sacked eight years later after calling on his listeners to vote for Boris Johnson in the London mayoral election. Regulator Ofcom ruled it was a serious breach of impartiality rules, and fined the station £20, pitched for a job with Johnson, saying: "Ken Livingstone had 70 media advisers. Boris Johnson only needs me. I'm ideal. I know what the ordinary man or woman on the street thinks."The future prime minister didn't take him up on the offer. Having hosted an afternoon weekend show at LBC in the 90s, Whale returned to the station as drivetime host the same year (despite having called the station's programme director a "pillock prize-prat and a half" not long before). 'Hedonistic years' Also in 2000, Whale was first diagnosed with cancer when a large tumour (he said it was "the size of a football") was found in his kidney and tumour were successfully removed. For the next few years, he and Melinda decided to live life to the full."Those were my hedonistic years - I ate as much steak as I wanted and drank copious amounts of wine," he said. "Every weekend, we flew off to a destination we'd never seen. We ran up huge bills. I didn't care."He also wanted to raise awareness about the disease, so set up the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer in 2006. It merged with Kidney Cancer UK nine years later. Whale stayed at LBC for five years before hosting the BBC Essex breakfast show for three and launching an online version of The James Whale Radio Show. In 2016, he took part in the 18th series of Celebrity Big Brother - becoming the sixth housemate to be voted months later, he went back to TalkRadio, but was suspended in 2018 after an interview with author and journalist Nichi Hodgson about her being a video clip, the presenter could be seen mouthing the words "orally raped", shaking his head and laughing when Ms Hodgson gave details about what had happened to her. "What began as a typically strident exchange between me and a journalist known for his belligerent presenting style became a merciless exercise in how not to interview someone who has experienced a sexual assault," Ms Hodgson wrote in The admitted the interview "completely lacked sensitivity", but Whale eventually kept his 2018, his wife Melinda died of lung cancer. Two years later, he was forced to take a break from broadcasting because his disease had spread to his remaining kidney, spine, brain and recovered enough to walk down the aisle with Nadine Lamont-Brown in 2021. They had got chatting in their local pub in Kent when they found out their spouses were both being treated by the same 2024, Whale was awarded an MBE for his services to broadcasting and charity, and he continued hosting a weekly radio and TV show on lost none of his fiery opinions or ability to outrage, causing controversy by saying the "Navy should be out there pointing weaponry" at migrants in small boats, and clashing with pro-Palestinian guests over the Israel-Gaza carried out his final interview, with his "good friend and political hero", Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, in his garden in also wrote a weekly column for the Daily Express, which on 27 July included a series of tributes from friends and former Den businessman Theo Paphitis hailed his charity work for Kidney Cancer UK, adding: "They broke the mould when they made James, and there's a good reason that he has lasted decades as a broadcaster on the airwaves."Actor Shane Richie said: "Love him or loathe him there's been no denying that the Whale was and will always be regarded as a one-off unique broadcaster."In the eighties, James moved the goalposts when it came to live TV... his late-night Friday talk show was the stuff of legend and is still regarded as a show that moved the parameters of British television."Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes said: "He made direct speech entertaining. With that he was ahead of his time. I'm just sorry he hasn't had more time."Whale kept broadcasting for as long as he could as the cancer tightened its grip."I've spent much of my professional life winding people up about their stupidity, taking the wind out of their sails, and I can't tell you how much I'm going to miss that," he wrote in one of his last weekly columns for the Daily Express. "It wasn't always presidents and prime ministers and celebrities and leaders of industry – though they often got their comeuppances – sometimes, it was just normal folk who needed taking down a peg or two."But boy have I had some fun, and hopefully created some entertaining, engaging radio that has made people think a bit harder."

'Hooked from the second I walked in'

We know the relationship between a football fan and their club is a special one so, as we gear up for the new season, we asked you to share why you fell in love with Leeds and some of your favourite moments supporting are some of your submissions: Michael: My dad was one of 15 kids from Kirkstall, so being a Leeds fan was never in doubt. I'm 70 years old now and I'm still a passionate lifelong Leeds supporter. I've got so many magical memories at Elland Road, but last season I took my 13-year-old grandson there, after he had previously shown no interest. As we walked into a full capacity ground, he said: "Wow, where have they all come from?" and he was speechless, which is unusual, as he never stops talking. He was hooked from that day on and he now has an Elland Road sign on his bedroom door. He is a mad, passionate Leeds fan like his grandad. Bless him. Send your pictures and stories here

Check out the viral pics the stars DID NOT want you to see - and wish could be erased from the Internet forever

One of the downsides to living in the spotlight as a celebrity is that your every move can be seen 24 hours a day. However, even moments of downtime were still fair play for photographers and fans to capture and share with the world - even when the stars were not looking their best. That's been the case for a plethora of famous faces, including Ben Affleck and Beyonce, who risked being turned into a meme for a seemingly innocent move - but who else had been affected and wished for the evidence to be eternally scrubbed? SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO KIM KARDASHIAN Kim Kardashian was mortified after what she viewed as 'unflattering' photos of her butt emerged in 2017. A sunshine break on the Mexican coast turned into a holiday from hell for the star when she expressed her shock over the images. The pic showed her in black thong bikini bottoms and a tie-front vest. The mom-of-four was less than impressed with the subsequent images and reacted to the shot on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kim said: 'Oh my god! I don't get it. I literally don't look like this. I need to untag myself in everything. I'm literally going to go inside and just start untagging.' ARIANA GRANDE She's been accused of appropriating black culture with her music and image in the past, and Ariana Grande inadvertently sparked another debate in 2021 when she shared a series of promo pics on social media. The controversy being that she was said to have been 'Asian fishing' - a term used to describe someone of non-Asian descent who attempted to adopt an Asian aesthetic. The star's otherwise innocent photos gained attention for all the wrong reasons when fans noted her unusually straight brows, thin-winged eyeliner, no-eyelid make-up, and notably lighter shade of foundation. Even the demure pose she adopted for the shoot came under fire, Ariana was criticized on social media for 'promoting stereotypes' and 'fetishizing' Asian culture. Subsequently, the images were swiftly removed from her Instagram account - but the Internet never forgets. BEN AFFLECK Seen as a reluctant celebrity, images of Ben Affleck's been turned into a meme more times than he would probably care to remember. It's been years since he was forced to respond to his viral notoriety following a grim-faced appearance at the 2023 Grammy Awards with then-wife Jennifer Lopez. However, that wasn't the actor's first time his image had gone viral. In 2016, cameras caught Ben looking rather dejected as he paused for a smoke break on a day out in LA with his daughter Violet. He stopped and stood with one hand in his jeans pocket with his eyes closed in weary contemplation, as he made the most of his time alone. Unfortunately for him, the image - notoriously dubbed 'sad Ben Affleck' - went viral and was used worldwide. KHLOE KARDASHIAN We've all had them, the occasional bad hair day, but not many of us have had pics of such unexpected moments splashed all over the Internet. Khloe Kardashian's one of the unfortunate few who had such an unflattering photo in 2011 on a shopping trip in Dallas when blustery weather worked against her as she made her way back to her car - to the benefit of trailing photographers. KHLOE KARDASHIAN (AGAIN) In 2021, a leaked photo of Khloe began circulating online. Highly unflattering, the unfiltered and unretouched image showed her minus make-up as she modelled in leopard-print swimwear. That might seem innocent, but it later transpired that Khloe and her media-savvy family were desperate to wipe all traces of it - and with good reason. The candid photo - shared without her consent - was damning evidence as to the extent she carefully manipulated her photos before releasing them on social media. The distraught star addressed the drama on Instagram days later, and shared live videos of herself to prove that her body was not regularly 'Photoshopped'. Her subsequent statement spoke about the pressure of being in the spotlight and her body being 'micro-analyzed' as a public figure. She also revealed that being compared to her siblings Kim and Kourtney in addition to 'constant ridicule and judgement' had been 'too much to bear'. JENNIFER ANISTON In a world increasingly opposed to lighting up, it's no surprise that Jennifer Aniston chose to keep her off-screen smoking status a closely guarded secret. However, in 2022, the actress - known for her wholesome, health-conscious public image - was filmed by her former husband Justin Theroux as he lit her cigarette. Not a huge issue, you'd think, but Aniston had claimed to have given up the habit following a previous confession about her being a 'chain-smoker' who could easily get through a pack a day during the early years of her career. Fans took the admission literally, and many believed she had stopped with the cigarettes in 2007 - three years after she'd filmed her final Friends scenes. Unfortunately for her, the damning 'smoking gun' video proved otherwise, and it was swiftly deleted from Justin's Instagram page - but it's still to be found elsewhere. BEYONCE Performing at Super Bowl in 2013, Beyonce sang and danced to thousands of gathered spectators and millions of TV viewers around the world during her halftime show at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. But she was less than impressed with some of the photos that emerged following her energetic performance at the 83,000 capacity venue. In fact, she was forced to confront online outlet Buzzfeed for its publishing of pics with the star in full flow with matted hair, strained sinews, and a sweaty complexion. Beyonce's dismay led to her publicist emailing the site directly with a request for the offending snaps to be taken down - which Buzzfeed refused. The site reacted to the demand with a follow-up article called The Unflattering Photos Beyonce's Publicist Doesn't Want You To See. LANA DEL REY Lana Del Rey would be forgiven for regretting her decision to pose beside a barbed-wire fence right outside Cook County Department of Corrections in 2022. The singer was pictured with her arm around her musician ex Jack Donoghue with the Chicago penitentiary looming behind them. Rumored to have been romantically linked to Jack of the band Salem, Lana seemed to confirm their romance when the image emerged on his Instagram platform, where it was shared alongside the caption: 'Family visit.' Jack previously sparked controversy by sharing a photo of himself licking his pet dog's tongue, and he was also seen in a pic that appeared to capture him during a passionate kiss with a male cousin. Lana wised up and married swamp tour guide Jeremy Dufrene in September 2024.
