
Rajnath Singh to inaugurate BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow today
As per the Defence Minister's Office, Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the facility at around 11 am.
'At around 11.00 AM today, 11th May, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will virtually inaugurate the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow,' the post said.
Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the Defence Technology & Test Centre and BRAHMOS Manufacturing Centre, established by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on December 26, 2021.
According to an official release, a first-of-its-kind Defence Technologies & Test Centre (DTTC), over approximately 22 acres, is set up to accelerate the growth of the defence and aerospace manufacturing clusters in Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UP DIC).
The BRAHMOS Manufacturing Centre, announced by BrahMos Aerospace, is a modern, state-of-the-art facility in the Lucknow node of UP DIC. It covers over 200 acres and produces the new BRAHMOS-NG (Next Generation) variant, which carries forward the lineage of the BRAHMOS weapons system.
The state-of-the-art Defence Technologies & Test Centre is set up to implement the MoU exchanged between Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and DRDO during DefExpo-2020 at Lucknow in the presence of the Defence Minsiter and the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
It will facilitate industries through establishing a centralised state-of-the-art technology infrastructure, which will accelerate the product development and reduce the induction time & the turnaround time for the futuristic systems development through its six subcentres. This unique setup will act as a bridge for Industries & Startups to grasp the DRDO's IPRs, Patents & ToTs. It will extend holistic handholding to Industries, Startups & Academia in UP DIC. It will promote the growth of Industries & Startups in UPDIC and Ease of Doing Business and contribute to building an AtmaNirbhar Bharat.
The release stated that the BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile system is one of the most successful missile programmes in the world. India has undertaken jointly in partnership with its closest strategic ally Russia.
As the world's best and fastest precision-guided weapon, BRAHMOS has fortified India's deterrence power in the 21st century. Designed and developed by the India-Russia JV entity BrahMos Aerospace, the supersonic cruise missile BRAHMOS has continued to evolve as the most versatile weapon in its genre. To carry forward this excellent lineage, BrahMos Aerospace has initiated work on a new, more advanced variant of the missile - BRAHMOS-NG. This new missile, having smaller, lighter and smarter dimensions, would be designed for deployment on a wider number of modern military platforms, including land, sea, underwater and air. It will hugely bolster the Indian military's modern combat capability and flexibility in the next few years. (ANI)

Uttar Pradesh is poised to become one of the leading states in disaster management, he added. Earlier, Lusigi met the chief minister and appreciated the Uttar Pradesh government's commitment to disaster management. She assured that UNDP will provide all possible technical support to the state. Key highlights of the agreement include the development of district disaster management plans for all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh and departmental disaster management plans for 15 key state departments, according to a state government spokesperson. Additionally, risk and vulnerability assessments will be conducted in 20 major cities. Urban disaster management plans will also be developed for these cities, he said. For the implementation of this programme, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved a total budget of ₹19.99 crore over the next three years.

New Delhi: After Operation Sindoor, India has intensified its efforts to strengthen country's defense capabilities. India is now reportedly laying groundwork for a bomber that can hit targets over 12,000 kilometres away. Defense analysts are of the opinion that this project, called the Ultra Long-Range Strike Aircraft (ULRA), will give a major boost to the Indian Air Force. It is important to note that India' neighbour China is moving fast with H-20, while the US holds an edge with its B-2 Spirit and the incoming B-21 Raider. Talking to The Economic Times, a senior Air Force official said, 'Our nuclear triad covers land and sea well, but we need a platform that can strike anywhere from the skies too.' Russian TU-160 'Blackjack' Notably, the world's heaviest and fastest supersonic bomber is with Russia, the TU-160 'Blackjack'. Its range is about 12,300 kilometres and it can carry up to 40 tons. One DRDO engineer said, 'We are looking at the TU-160 as a regional model and adapting what suits our needs best.' According to the reports, India's own version may use a swing wing design. This will help the wings to change shape in flight to save fuel and control speed more efficiently over long distances. Going further than the B-21 Raider India wants its bomber to fly past the Northrop Grumman's B-21 Raider which should clock around 9,300 kilometres. Over 9,300 kilometres means it could reach targets in the US, Europe, Africa or Australia without refuelling. The plan also includes radar dodging features, stealth technology and automated flight systems. BrahMos-NG: A key highlight is its planned weapon load — the bomber is expected to carry up to four BrahMos-NG missiles. Each missile has a range of 290 to 450 kilometers and can target enemy airfields, radar stations, command centers, or nuclear facilities within minutes. 'We also expect short-range ballistic weapons like the Agni-1P, laser bombs and anti-radiation missiles to be part of the final payload,' a senior DRDO official said to Economic Times. The Modi government, along with the DRDO, HAL and the Aircraft Development Agency are leading the charge. According to the reports, the talks on technology are open with Russia and France for transfer deals. One key piece is the engine. Engineers might adapt the GE-414 or Russia's NK-32 to fit the power and range needed.

China-Pakistan relationship New Delhi: During 'Operation Sindoor', India launched a brutal attack on Pakistan, destroying its air defense network completely. The Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). It's been over 2 months now since India conducted Operation Sindoor, yet Pakistan continues to struggle with the aftermath. In a bid to support the bankrupt, China has once again stepped in to offer assistance. According to reports from open-source intelligence networks (OSINT), China has supplied a fresh batch of its HQ-16 medium-range surface-to-air missile systems to Pakistan. Reports suggest that China's Y-20 military transport aircraft was seen flying to Pakistan at least three times in recent weeks. These aircraft delivered consignments of the HQ-16 missile systems along with associated equipment. The Y-20 is a heavy-lift military jet capable of transporting up to 66 tons of military cargo. Why Was a New Batch of HQ-16 Needed? During Operation Sindoor, the Indian Air Force targeted key Pakistani airbases such as Noor Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Bholari. The Indian Air Force destroyed Pakistan's HQ-16 and HQ-9P air defense systems, along with China-made YLC-8E radars, using BrahMos and SCALP cruise missiles. Can the HQ-16 stop BrahMos? The HQ-16 has a strike range of around 40 kilometers and is primarily designed to intercept drones, fighter jets, and slow-moving missiles. However, the BrahMos missile, which flies at speeds of Mach 2.8 to 3.0 (nearly three times the speed of sound) and cruises at low altitudes, is extremely difficult for the HQ-16 to intercept. How significant is the new shipment to Pakistan? Currently, Pakistan's air defense capability is almost negligible. During the operation, India destroyed two out of its three surveillance aircraft. In this situation, China sending a new batch of equipment is more about boosting Pakistan's military morale — but it will not alter the strategic balance.
