He said industrial corridors are crucial drivers of economic development and infrastructure growth, as they stimulate large-scale industrial development by providing planned infrastructure. They attract domestic and foreign investment, boosting GDP and employment. They promote cluster-based development where industries benefit from being located near each other. Altaf Shakoor said these corridors involve world-class roads, railways, ports, and power supply, improving connectivity and thus lead to development of smart cities, logistics hubs, and industrial parks. They help in decongesting major cities by promoting growth in lesser-developed regions.
He said new industries and infrastructure projects create millions of direct and indirect jobs, and support skill development through training centers and vocational institutions. They also spur urbanization in a planned manner, preventing chaotic city expansion.
He said industrial corridors are PPP-friendly (Public-Private Partnership), promoting efficiency and innovation. They create policy frameworks and single-window clearances that make it easier to do business.
He urged the government to study various models of industrial corridors particularly the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). He said Karachi is suitable for industrial corridors due to port access, existing Industrial base, and availability of skilled labour, suppliers, and service providers. Karachi is already linked to national highways (N-5, Super Highway/M9) and railway lines.
He said the proposed Karachi-Hyderabad Industrial Corridor would be connecting the existing industrial areas and developing new ones along the Super Highway (M-9). He said the proposed Karachi–Keti Bandar corridor will link Thar's coal resources to a new seaport at Keti Bandar, along with rail, power, and industrial infrastructure. He said this project has been under active consideration under CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor) frameworks since 2016, but now it is time to implement this highly important project. He said this corridor would complement Karachi's industrial ecosystem in a great way. He said this project has already been officially recognized under CPEC and has past feasibility, but now needs serious execution commitment, sustainable environmental planning, and private public coordination to move from paper to reality.

TTP terrorist 'behind Chinese engineers attack' killed in Karachi operation
Listen to article Three terrorists from banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), including one allegedly involved in last year's attack on Chinese engineers, were killed in a joint operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies in Karachi's Manghopir area late Sunday night. Police said terrorists opened fire when they spotted them approaching, triggering a gunfight that lasted over an hour. All three suspected terrorists were killed, said police, adding that a fully assembled suicide jacket, three grenades, a Kalashnikov rifle, two pistols and a large cache of ammunition were recovered from the site. Moreover, police found a diary which listed two to three high-value prospective targets. The second deceased suspect was identified as Qudratullah and the third's identity is yet to be confirmed. The CTD chief said the three slain suspected terrorists belonged to TTP cell dispatched from Afghanistan. Intelligence officials had been surveilling the cell for several days, he added. Khattab further added that the TTP cell in question is believed to have five members but only three were present at the safehouse during the raid. A search operation in the area and further investigation are under way.

CM pays tribute to Capt Sarwar Shaheed

CM orders visible, improved cleanliness
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to ensure visible cleanliness and active sanitation staff across all neighborhoods of the province. She was chairing a meeting to review progress on the 'Suthra (Clean) Punjab Program', where she emphasized that as public expectations grow, performance must also improve. During the meeting, the CM was briefed in detail on various components of the program, including the introduction of e-invoicing and e-billing for sanitation fees, being implemented for the first time under the initiative. She was also informed about the Vehicle Trip Counting System and Vehicle Tracking Management System to monitor waste collection operations more effectively. Highlighting international interest in the program, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, 'Development institutions from the World Bank, Europe, and other countries have expressed willingness to invest in the Suthra Punjab Program.' The CM said that while the initiative is progressing successfully, complaints from certain districts regarding cleanliness must be promptly addressed. 'Contractors failing to meet performance standards should be removed,' she asserted. The CM further instructed the use of Safe City cameras to monitor sanitation conditions across Punjab.
