But also for the very simple reason that Newcastle United don't want to sell. Isak is their superstar - the centre of their team and the biggest catalyst for their UEFA Champions League qualification last season.
They're looking to be one of the big guns in the Premier League. Selling Isak makes that more difficult and they've set a British-record asking price.
Though, it's debatable whether that's even an asking price. Newcastle have held, publicly at least, the stance that Isak simply isn't going anywhere.
Until the last week, that is. Isak hasn't been involved in their pre-season, while Eddie Howe quite openly admitted that things are going on behind the scenes with the forward.
. All that stands in the way of it is Newcastle's stance - and now there's a massive sign that is changing.
Newcastle United's interests
Newcastle are out there looking at strikers. They wanted to sign Hugo Ekitike, of course, only to lose out to Liverpool but the Magpies were always adamant that the Frenchman was to play with Isak.
And that's fair enough - but we find it difficult to believe they're looking at both Youane Wissa and Benjamin Sesko to play alongside him. That sounds more like a complete reshuffle up top.
Ben Jacobs claims Newcastle have told RB Leipzig that they'd pay £60m for Sesko. They're just waiting on the player's approval, essentially.

Southampton have made a counter-offer to Everton as talks continue over a deal for Tyler Dibling to join the Merseyside club. Following the latest Everton bid that was worth in the region of £40million, Southampton came back with a proposal of £45m plus £5m in easily achievable bonuses and a 25 per cent sell-on clause. Southampton do not plan to reduce their price owing to a belief that Dibling is the best young English player on the market and key to their aims of being promoted back to the Premier League. The England youth international's Southampton contract runs until 2027, and Everton had already had an opening bid for him turned down this summer. Dibling enjoyed a breakthrough 2024-25 season after making his Premier League debut in August. He finished the campaign with four goals and three assists across 38 appearances in all competitions. He progressed through the Southampton youth system, before moving to Chelsea in 2022. However, he rejoined the south coast club later that year. The Southampton academy graduate has made 43 senior appearances for the club, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Everton are expected to be active in the final weeks of the transfer window, and The Athletic reported on Monday they were in talks with Chelsea over the permanent transfer of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for an initial fee of £25million.

Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign another striker, but they refuse to take their eyes off Benjamin Sesko. The Red Devils already missed out on several centre-forwards this summer, particularly Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike, who all ended up signing for their Premier League rivals. Therefore, Man Utd have now identified Sesko as their main target, but they're also facing competition from Newcastle, who are equally keen to land the RB Leipzig star, especially with Alexander Isak pushing for a move to Liverpool. Since this might be a risky strategy on INEOS' part, many would imagine that the club would keep other tracks alive. According to Fabrizio Romano, MUFC were given the opportunity to sign Dusan Vlahovic, a striker whom they have been following for quite some time. The Serbian is no longer wanted at Juventus who have already acquired the services of Jonathan David and are hoping to bring back Randal Kolo Muani from PSG. Man Utd make clear stance on Dusan Vlahovic The 25-year-old's contract will expire next year, so the Bianconeri are willing to sell him at a discount. They have set their price at just €20 million, making him an affordable option for Man Utd, albeit his hefty salary of €12m per year might represent an obstacle. But as Romano explains, Man Utd have rejected the chance to sign Vlahovic, at least for now, as they're currently putting all their efforts at the moment into signing Sesko. The Italian journalist believes that United could revisit the Vlahovic option if they fall short in the Sesko race, but at the moment, they aren't planning to discuss any other striker. In the meantime, many sources, including Daily Mail Chief Football Reporter Craig Hope, insist that Tuesday will be the D-Day for Sesko, expecting a decision to be made one way or the other.
