How Delhi-Jaipur Expressway will be a gamechanger for connectivity and economy

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has undertaken several key infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening connectivity across the country. These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance travel efficiency between cities and boost the economic development in the region. One such project is the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. The recently completed project is a part of the Delhi-Vadodara section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The Delhi-Vadodara Expressway, is expected to further ease traffic and reduce travel time between Delhi and Jaipur to just 3 hours — down from the current 3 hours and 45 minutes. This development will help decongest and ease NH-48 and NH-21, facilitating smoother and faster journeys. As part of this corridor, the 66.916-km four-lane Greenfield Bandikui Spur — built at a cost of Rs 2,016 crore, offers direct connectivity. It also addresses the previous gap in direct road links, ensuring better travel options for daily commuters and freight operators alike. Earlier in February 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 246-km-long Delhi–Dausa–Lalsot section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This operational stretch has already reduced travel time from Delhi to Jaipur to approximately 3.5 hours and has impact economic activity along the corridor. The Delhi-Jaipur Expressway will have a major impact on the regional economy. Apart from these, the government is also working on a plan to built rural haats along the expressway. As a result, the local farmers, weavers, handicrafts-men will be able to sell their products easily. The Delhi-Jaipur section will also boost travel and tourism industry as well. Rajasthan has already been an attractive destination for tourists from the country and abroad. Now, with the development of this expressway, its attraction will increase even further. It will improve connectivity to several tourist places like Sariska Tiger Reserve, Keoladeo, Ranthambore National Park, etc. Earlier, addressing a rally at Rajasthan's Dausa in 2023, PM Modi said that modern infrastructure projects will further facilitate people like farmers, college and office commuters, truck-tempo drivers, and businessmen. 'You can imagine how much time will be saved by this. The friends from this entire area who work in Delhi, or are engaged in business, or need to travel for any other work, can now easily reach their homes in the evening. Truck-tempo drivers who carry goods to and from Delhi will not have to spend their whole day on the road. Small farmers and cattle-rearers can now easily send their vegetables and milk to Delhi at a low cost. Now the risk of their goods getting perished on the way due to delay has also reduced,' PM Modi said. The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is set to revolutionize inter-city travel. Upon completion, the journey from Jaipur to Delhi, which previously took 5 to 6 hours, will be covered in half the time. Once fully completed, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be India's longest expressway, stretching 1,386 km. It will shorten the travel distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 12 per cent from 1,424 km to 1,242 km and cut travel time by 50 per cent, from 24 hours to just 12.

Indian Stock Markets End Week Lower Amid Trade Deal Concerns, Profit Booking

Mumbai: The Indian equity markets closed lower for the week as investors turned cautious ahead of the crucial July 9 US-India trade deadline and the start of the corporate earnings season, experts said on Saturday. Both benchmark indices -- the Sensex and the Nifty -- slipped 0.7 per cent each on a weekly basis, as broader market sentiment remained clouded by global uncertainty and profit booking after the recent rally. The Nifty ended the week at 25,461, while the Sensex closed at 83,432.89. The indices had started the week with a strong breakout, but the momentum faded amid concerns over a possible delay in finalising trade agreements. However, reports suggesting an interim deal between India and the US helped limit the downside in the latter half of the week. According to Ajit Mishra of Religare Broking Limited, the pullback was largely driven by investors booking profits following recent gains. 'The cautious tone was evident with the looming trade deadline. However, optimism around a potential agreement between India and the US acted as a cushion,' he noted. India's fiscal health remained strong, supported by a robust Rs 2.69 lakh crore dividend transfer from the RBI, which helped contain the fiscal deficit at just 0.8 per cent of the annual target. June GST collections also remained firm, rising 6.2 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 1.84 lakh crore. Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said, 'The week saw some consolidation after sharp gains in previous sessions. Global cues remained mixed, and investors preferred to stay on the sidelines ahead of the US tariff decision." 'FIIs turned cautious due to high valuations, but support from DIIs kept the market from falling sharply,' Nair mentioned. From a sectoral perspective, defensive sectors like IT and healthcare outperformed, supported by stock-specific action and stable demand. Meanwhile, rate-sensitive sectors such as banking, auto, and realty witnessed pressure from profit booking. FMCG stocks also edged lower. Defence stocks, however, saw strong buying after the government cleared several high-value contracts. Technically, the market entered a consolidation phase. Bajaj Broking Research noted that the Nifty has formed a small bear candle with a higher high and low on the weekly chart, signalling consolidation amid stock specific action after the recent strong upward move. 'Key support levels are seen around 25,150–25,200, coinciding with the 20-day exponential moving average, while resistance is expected near the 25,600–25,740 zone,' according to Angel One. 'A breakout above this range could trigger the next leg of the rally,' the brokerage added.
