"Any attack targeting Syria's territorial integrity, unity, and sovereignty undermines regional peace efforts," Fidan told US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a phone conversation on the situation in southern Syria, Xinhua news agency reported.
It is important to implement the mutual understanding reached by the parties involved, Fidan added, which should refer to an immediate and comprehensive nationwide ceasefire announced earlier in the day by the Syrian authorities.
In a statement issued Saturday morning, the Syrian authorities said the truce aimed to preserve national unity and ensure the safety of civilians amid "critical circumstances," describing the move as a national and humanitarian obligation.
The statement came hours after US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack revealed the truce on X, stating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syrian interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa had agreed to a cessation of hostilities, brokered by Rubio.
Earlier on Tuesday, Israel launched a series of airstrikes targeting convoys of Syrian forces in and around the southern Syrian city of Sweida, killing and wounding several personnel and further escalating days of deadly clashes between local Druze armed factions, Bedouin tribes, and the Syrian interim government's forces.
Syria condemned Israel's involvement and said the strikes had resulted in the deaths of members of the armed forces and civilians.

The United Kingdom will recognise the Palestinian state in September unless Israel takes steps to end the 'appalling situation' in Gaza, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday. Starmer said that Tel Aviv must also meet other conditions such as agreeing to a ceasefire in the besieged Palestinian territory, committing to a long-term sustainable peace that revives the prospect of the two-state solution and allowing the United Nations to resume the supply of humanitarian aid in Gaza. If the conditions are not met, the UK will take the steps towards recognising Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September, he added. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Starmer's decision rewards Palestinian militant group Hamas' 'monstrous terrorism' and 'punishes its victims'. 'A jihadist state on Israel's border today will threaten Britain tomorrow,' Netanyahu said. 'Appeasement towards jihadist terrorists always fails. It will fail you too. It will not happen.' As of March, Palestine was recognised as a sovereign state by 147 out of the 193 United Nations members. Palestine has been a non-member observer state of the United Nations General Assembly since 2012. Starmer's announcement came four days after France said that it will recognise the Palestinian state. President Emmanuel Macron had said on Friday that the formal announcement will be made before the UN General Assembly in September. With this, France will become the first among the Group of Seven nations to recognise Palestine. The UK is also a member of the G7. Israel's military offensive in Gaza began in October 2023 after Hamas killed 1,200 persons during its incursion into southern Israel and took hostages. Israel has been carrying out unprecedented air and ground strikes on Gaza since then, leaving more than 61,000 persons dead. Tel Aviv has also enforced a severe blockade on humanitarian aid, which UN officials say has brought the population to the verge of famine. Israel and Hamas have been holding ceasefire talks. Earlier efforts to reinstate a brief ceasefire that took effect in January had stalled due to major disagreements between the two sides.

Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said he has received a formal invitation to visit Israel. This invitation, he said, came after a visit by Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) last week. 'He wants me to visit Israel,' Singh said, adding that 'we stand with Israel during these difficult times, as we share a strong relationship based on friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect'. Last Wednesday, Ambassador Azar had asked the corporation to participate in global tenders that would be issued, as there is a lot of post-war destruction in Israel. 'Advertisements will be out for the opportunity,' said Singh, adding that interested individuals can contact the MCD or the Israeli embassy, where necessary certification will be required to prove credibility. According to officials, the advanced Israeli technology can be a good solution to assist in water management. 'They also shared how they collect taxes through drones.' Officials at the Israeli embassy also said potential areas of collaboration were discussed. These included urban water management, park irrigation, water drainage, waste management, digital systems for tax collection, advanced construction surveillance, and cultural collaboration. 'It was the first, initial meeting between the Mayor and the Ambassador. Hence, we are not yet at the stage of (signing) an MoU or (initiating a) pilot project,' the official added. The meeting, which went on for around an hour, was also attended by MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav, NDMC member Pravesh Sahib Singh, Standing Committee Vice-Chairperson Sundar Singh, additional commissioners, and other senior civic officials.
