Motorcycling-Aprilia ready for courtroom showdown with MotoGP champ Martin over contract

* HT Image Aprilia say Martin not free for 2026, ready to go to court * Dorna CEO says no rider can switch without agreement * Honda waiting for resolution before approaching Martin June 29 - MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin's bid to escape his Aprilia contract looks set for a date in the courtroom, with the Italian manufacturer's boss Massimo Rivola declaring on Sunday that they are 'relaxed' about dragging the dispute before a judge. The simmering contract drama boiled over last month when Martin announced his intention to leave Aprilia ahead of the 2026 season, barely a week after the team insisted he honour the two-year agreement he had signed. The 27-year-old, who has raced in only one round this season due to injuries in a pre-season crash and at the Qatar Grand Prix, said he had exercised his right to release himself for the 2026 season. His manager Albert Valera had also said Martin is free of his contract for next year having triggered a clause but Rivola said that was not the case. "I think he's not going to be free for 2026," Rivola told TNT Sports at the Dutch Grand Prix. "In case we have to go to the court, the judge will take his position but we are quite, I say, relaxed about that." The dispute has also caught the attention of MotoGP organiser Dorna Sports, who took a firm stance on rider movement. Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said they would not accept any rider entry unless a judge clears them to ride or both parties reach an agreement. "Now Aprilia says it has a contract in place with Martin while his manager, Valera, says he is free," Ezpeleta told Sky Italia. "For us to accept that, there is a need either for the two parties to come to an agreement or for a judge to decide the case." With Ducati out of the picture after they snubbed Martin last year, Honda may be an option but the Japanese outfit's manager Alberto Puig said they will not get involved until Martin reaches an agreement with Aprilia. "We can wait. Frankly speaking, it's a matter between Aprilia and Jorge," he said. "It must be clear. If he gets out of the contract, then we will understand. We are not in a super hurry. We will see what is the final resolution there." Meanwhile, Martin's physical recovery continues with Rivola revealing the Spaniard will run a test in Misano on July 9, targeting a return at the Czech Grand Prix in mid-July. "Having one race before the break would be good so mentally. Physically, he starts getting a bit of rhythm and then he knows that he has to push... Then to get the result will be a second step," he said. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

Kerala sees 100% FDI growth: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Industry minister P Rajeeve said the state's new industrial policy has significantly transformed Kerala's entrepreneurial landscape and boosted job opportunities, enabling more youth to find employment within the state. Inaugurating the International MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) Day celebrations, organized by the department of industries & commerce and the World Bank-aided Kera project, Rajeeve noted that Kerala is witnessing a rise in reverse migration amid global geopolitical tensions. He affirmed the govt's commitment to building an industry-friendly ecosystem that supports both employment and economic growth. The event's focal theme, ARYSE-Kerala (Awareness and Response for Young and Student Entrepreneurs), reflects the state's efforts to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs. "We are focusing on knowledge-based industries by leveraging Kerala's highly skilled workforce," Rajeeve said. Initiatives such as K-Store and K-Shoppe have enhanced sales for homegrown MSMEs and nano units. Under the Made in Kerala brand, products like coconut oil—branded as Nanma—have gained customer traction, with 10 more products to follow. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Honda SP160: Now with More Power and Style Honda Learn More Undo Other key interventions include subsidies and margin money for nano units, campus industrial parks for youth entrepreneurship, private industrial estate schemes, and extended support for marketing, taxation, and MSME sustainability. Concrete slab damages railing of Kosi bridge

Patna: A major mishap was narrowly averted in Bhagalpur district on Friday night when a large concrete slab fell from a transport vehicle onto the Bihpur-Virpur bridge being constructed across the Kosi river, damaging part of the existing railing. The Rs996-crore project, initially targeted for completion by June 2024, has already seen delays. The revised deadline is now set for 2026. The incident occurred late on Friday near Trimuhan Ghat while a vehicle was transporting concrete segments. According to reports, the pressure pump pipe of the loader burst unexpectedly, causing the load to shift. Officials said the 90-wheel loader was ferrying a massive slab intended for installation when it slipped from the vehicle and struck the bridge's railing, damaging around seven feet of it before falling into the river below. On Saturday morning, rumours that the entire bridge had collapsed sparked panic, prompting locals to rush to the site. However, officials clarified that only a minor section was affected. "The boundary of the bridge has been damaged. We have asked the company to repair it. A small section of the slab and railing was impacted. The incident occurred when the vehicle struck the railing while transporting the slab," said Rituraj Pratap Singh, SDO of Naugachia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Honda SP160: Now with More Power and Style Honda Learn More Undo The bridge, part of the National Highway 106 project under PM Narendra Modi's infrastructure package, was approved in 2015. The 6.94-km structure, with an additional 22km of approach roads, will be Bihar's longest bridge and a crucial lifeline for the flood-prone Kosi region. The foundation stone was laid by the PM via videoconferencing in 2020, and construction began in June 2021.
