She then followed it up by winning her home Grand Slam in January 2022.
But Ash Barty, 29, stunned the sporting world when she suddenly retired from tennis two months later at the top of the game.
She has kept a low profile since, getting married to golfer Garry Kissick and welcoming the second of her two children last week, a daughter called Jordan.
Now, though, after three years out of the public spotlight, Barty made a shock comeback.

She stars in a hilarious 90-second commercial for car manufacturer Kia to promote their new pick-up truck, the Kia Tasman.
Barty plays the role of Tasman Town's newest resident after buying a fixer-upper crumbling old house in the countryside.
She then calls in a load of 'tradies' to get the pad in shape - with Australian sporting heroes including Erin Phillips, Peter Daicos, Dane Swan, Jason Gillespie, Buddy Franklin, Alexander Volkanovski, Dylan Alcott and Pat Rafter all arriving on site in their Kia Tasmans.
Two-time Wimbledon finalist Rafter - naturally - is in charge of the turf with his company 'Best On Grass'.

But when they spot the roof is in need of repairs, recently-retired Nadal is called in, having been sponsored by Kia for many years.
And the Spaniard - dubbed Rafa's Roofs - hilariously picked up the video call on his phone and left Australians in stitches with his cameo and response.

Tennis stars' new careers
PLENTY of tennis stars have stayed involved in the sport since retiring.
But others pursued very different careers. Here are some of the best… I reached French Open and Wimbledon finals as a teenager but I quit to become a nun
I won Wimbledon mixed doubles with my sister but got fed up with English weather so now run luxury B&B
I was tipped for stardom aged 12 but retrained to become high-flying lawyer
I earned £9m and won French Open before setting up bistro with Brazilian model girlfriend
I'm last Frenchman to win Roland Garros, now I'm singer with six albums hitting No1 in charts
I'm former world No1 but quit aged 29 - instead I went on to play professional poker and golf
I was destined for the top but swapped lobs for labs as award-winning Harvard physicist
He said: "I am flat out."
Then leaning in towards the camera, he asked: "Is it a cashie?" - Aussie slang for an under-the-table cash-in-hand job.
Like Nadal, Barty won the French Open - albeit just the once in 2019.
That came just two years after she returned to tennis' majors following a two-year absence from the biggest tournaments as she took a break from the sport - and even played semi-pro cricket.
Since hanging up her racquet for good, the Queensland queen has even played in pro golf tournaments as well as having her two children.
Barty was a pundit for the BBC at Wimbledon last year and proved a popular addition - but the timing of Jordan's recent arrival may rule her out of 2025's tournament.

Dru Edmonstone, 53, tied the knot with Robyn Jayne Sass, 33, at his family's castle in Stirlingshire this month. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Dru Edmonstone, 53, married actress and model Robyn Sass, 33, at his family's castle in Stirlingshire 2 Robyn has a YouTube travel channel with her husband and has modelled, acted and worked as a dog groomer The ex-financier last night said he was 'very happy' seven years after being jailed over a £60,000 benefits and tax fraud. Robyn has previously posted topless snaps and appeared in pantos and describes herself as an holistic healer. Their marriage took place on July 16 at Duntreath Castle, Blanefield, owned by the Edmonstones since 1435. The couple — who run the nearby West Highland Way Hotel — launched a YouTube channel to document their travels. Calling themselves The Arctic Foxes, one video on a ferry to the Netherlands two months ago saw divorced Edmonstone tell her: 'I love you Robyn. 'You're my moon and my stars. "Will you marry me? 'I'm going to ask you a million times.' During a trip to Loch Lomond, they snuggled up in bed with Edmonstone giving his partner a foot massage. He said: 'Look how beautiful you are and look how ugly I am.' She replied: 'Don't be silly. "You're the most handsome alien I've ever known.' An acting profile states: 'I am an experienced full-time model and actress in both theatre and screen.' Her husband and Camilla's great-gran was Edward VII's mistress Alice Keppel. We told how Edmonstone got a 21-month sentence in 2018 over bogus claims for income support and tax credits, plus carers and disability living allowances. The same year, he was fined £500 after his dog bit two elderly ramblers, a jogger and a cyclist on his ancestral estate. Last night, Edmonstone said: 'Robyn and I are happy. "As a couple, we are very happy. 'I know I have a past. I get it. "I've tried to turn my life around. "I think I've been relatively successful at that. "People are allowed a second chance in life. 'I'm not proud of what I did. "It's been eight years. 'But I've done things since then which I'm proud of.'

Dannii Minogue set to make huge acting comeback alongside Coronation Street icon

Dannii Minogue started her career working on one of Australia's biggest soaps - and now she is teaming up with other soap legends for a brand new four part drama Dannii Minogue is set to make a triumphant return to acting - decades after walking away from her breakout soap role. The 53-year-old Australian may be known to millions for her music and TV judging career. ‌ Dannii has enjoyed chart success with smash singles including Put the Needle on It, All I Wanna Do, and I Begin to Wonder. And she won over even more fans when she served as a judge on hit series The X Factor from 2007 until 2010. ‌ More recently, Dannii has been playing cupid for boys and girls looking for love on the dating shows I Kissed A Boy and I Kissed A Girl on the BBC. But before any of these career achievements were made, Dannii enjoyed a career as an actress - breaking into the spotlight before her older sister, chart superstar Kylie Minogue, 47. ‌ Back in 1989, Dannii drew attention for playing Emma Jackson in the Aussie soap Home and Away. She landed the role after playing smaller roles on an array of TV shows - and she remained on Home and Away until 1990. Now, 35 years later, the star is to make a return to acting in a new Channel 5 drama called Imposter. She will appear in the show opposite ex-Corrie actress Kym Marsh, 49. ‌ The four part drama is already filming in Victoria, Australia, and follows a family that is torn apart by betrayal and murder. Neighbours icon Jackie Woodburne, 69, who has played Susan Kennedy since 1994, also features as the leader of the family. A source told The Sun:"Bosses have spent weeks trying to get Dannii and she finally put pen to paper just days before filming started. It's been decades since she's acted on the small screen and everyone at the channel is over the moon that she was able to make the dates work because she loved the script. "She started filming last week after meeting her fellow cast members." The Mirror has contacted representatives of Dannii and Channel 5 for comment. ‌ Imposter was announced earlier this month - with TV fans already excited by the news that Kym and Jackie would be united together on screen by the show. And the new series was announced alongside news that a string of other shows are being made; Number One Fan, Missed Call and The Family Secret, to returning shows The Hardacres and The Teacher. ‌ Deputy Chief Content Officer and Head of Scripted at Paramount UK, Sebastian Cardwell, said last week: "This new slate of scripted commissions showcases the breadth and ambition of 5's storytelling. "From brand new thrillers and character-driven mysteries to the much-anticipated return of audience favourites, we're continuing to build a rich and distinctive drama offering. "These titles reflect our commitment to delivering compelling, accessible British drama that resonates with viewers across the UK. We look forward to announcing further titles in the coming months."

Lando Norris braced for rain-hit Belgian Grand Prix after clinching pole

Lando Norris admitted he was braced for a chaotic rain-hit Belgian Grand Prix after beating championship rival Oscar Piastri to pole position. Norris edged out McLaren team-mate Piastri by just 0.085 seconds at Spa-Francorchamps, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc third. In the other scarlet car, Lewis Hamilton was eliminated in Q1 and was set to line up from a lowly 16th – a performance the seven-time world champion described as 'unacceptable'. Our top three in qualifying 😀🤩😀 #F1 #BelgianGP — Formula 1 (@F1) July 26, 2025 Norris secured his fourth pole of the season and his second in three races in dry conditions, but rain is forecast to hit Sunday's 44-lap race in the Ardennes. However, Norris has won both of the two races staged in the wet this year – the curtain raiser in Melbourne and the last round in Silverstone three weeks ago – and said: 'It's probably going to rain and at Spa, there is a high chance it could just hit half of the track and not the other half, so we could be in for a chaotic race like Australia or Silverstone. 'Hopefully I can take advantage from being at the front, but I don't expect it to be dry. I expect it to be raining and for there to be more chaos.' Norris qualified six tenths behind Piastri for Saturday's sprint race. He started third and finished in the same position with Piastri one place above him – allowing the Australian to extend his championship lead from eight points to nine. Max Verstappen won the first Formula One race staged following Christian Horner's dismissal as Red Bull team principal and the defending champion will start from fourth for Sunday's main event. Yet in qualifying on Saturday, Norris delivered with his first lap in Q3 to hold a near two-tenth advantage over Piastri heading into the concluding runs and although he failed to improve and Piastri did, it was enough to take the 13th pole of his career as he bids for a hat-trick of consecutive wins. 'Everyone was pretty worried after yesterday but I wasn't even that far off,' said Norris. 'There was nothing to worry about, but people like to make a lot of things up. It was just a couple of little issues that I had. 'I was confident coming into today so it was nice to get back on top.' At the other end of the grid, Hamilton will have just four drivers behind him when the lights go out on Sunday. His lap was chalked off by the stewards after he ran all four wheels of his Ferrari off the circuit at Raidillon. Hamilton, who spun in qualifying for the sprint race and then improved only three places from his grid slot of 18th, is without a podium for Ferrari – the deepest he has ever gone into a season without a top-three finish. 'I don't agree (with the stewards' decision), but I'm out,' said the 40-year-old. 'It was another mistake from my side and I have to look internally. 'I have to apologise to my team because it is just unacceptable to be out in both Q1s this weekend. A very, very poor performance.'
