Adam Sandler reveals ‘painful' reason why he had to rewrite ‘Happy Gilmore 2'
Carl Weathers was set to reprise his role as Derick 'Chubbs' Peterson in the upcoming sequel to 'Happy Gilmore' before he died at age 76.
'We had a painful change. Carl Weathers had a massive part,' Adam Sandler, 58, revealed in a new interview with Collider. 'I would talk to Carl, and we were excited, and then Carl passed away.'

'We had to rewrite a lot of the stuff, and even what the story was,' the comedy actor continued. 'We made a lot of nice references to how great Chubbs was in the movie. That was the biggest change.'
In 1996's 'Happy Gilmore,' Weathers played the golf mentor to Sandler's Happy Gilmore.
Sandler told Collider that Chubbs had a bigger part in the sequel when they were drafting the initial scripts.

'In the first version that we came up with, he had a son,' Sandler revealed of Weathers' character. 'He was coming back to me a lot in my dreams, and he had a son who was mad at Happy for causing the death of daddy.'

Weathers died of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in Feb. 2024, seven months before the sequel started shooting.
'A true great man. Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete,' Sandler wrote on Instagram in his tribute to Weathers at the time.

Earlier this year, 'Happy Gilmore 2' director Kyle Newacheck acknowledged the sequel wouldn't be the same without Weathers.

'You can't make Happy Gilmore without Chubbs Peterson, it doesn't exist,' Newacheck, 41, told Collider. 'You can be assured his spirit is throughout the film. He may not be by Happy's side anymore, but he's on his shoulder.'

While filming 'Happy Gilmore,' Weathers suffered a serious injury that caused him back pains for the rest of his life.
'I didn't tell anyone because, you know, I'm tough, man,' he recalled to GQ in 2020. 'Yeah I hurt my back and actually, to this day, it still really bothers me, because it was right on the spine.'

The 'Rocky' star explained that he got hurt during a 'blind fall' stunt and his body 'got trapped' by two stunt bags that crushed on his spine.
'I felt the pain and the burning sensation immediately,' he said. 'But again, I'm an athlete, I'm tough, I'm an actor, let's keep going.'
Netflix's 'Happy Gilmore 2,' also starring Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny and Benny Safdie, debuts Friday.

Watch the red sculpture of Trump emerge from a NYC manhole
"I installed the sculpture in New York because this is where he built his image, his empire, his legend," artist James Colomina told USA TODAY. President Donald Trump appeared in New York City on July 23, or rather, a characterized version of him did. French artist James Colomina installed a life-size sculpture of the president, titled "Donald," in Manhattan on the morning of July 23. The artist told USA TODAY that he installed the sculpture around 7 a.m. local time, though it has since been removed. The bright red sculpture, made of resin, depicted Trump from the waist up, emerging from a manhole, also part of the sculpture. Wearing a suit and tie, the statue portrayed a serious-looking and pursed-lipped Trump looking upward at the skyscraper above him. Under the manhole cover lid, a small red rat peered outward. "I installed the sculpture in New York because this is where he built his image, his empire, his legend," Colomina told USA TODAY via email. "A city he tried to conquer with golden towers and brutal slogans. I wanted this image – a red body rising from the sewers – to disturb that landscape." The sculpture was created in about three weeks at his studio in France, Colomina said. He then disassembled and transported it to New York, and later reassembled the sculpture on site. Colomina posted a photo of the sculpture to his Instagram story on July 23, with the caption "Make America Grime Again," a reference to Trump's popular motto, "Make America Great Again." Neither the White House nor Trump immediately responded for comment about the sculpture when contacted by USA TODAY on July 23. Where was the sculpture located? The sculpture was located at the corner of East 42nd Street and 2nd Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, in front of The News Building, which is about a mile away from Trump Tower. It was removed by a maintenance worker for SL Green Realty Corp., the company that owns the skyscraper. "The sculpture is installed right across from the Chrysler Building, a symbol of power, elevation, and architectural pride," Colomina told USA TODAY. "I liked the idea of creating a stark contrast between this vertical monument and the grotesque figure emerging from the sewers." Who is James Colomina? Colomina is a street artist, known for his bright red, life-size sculptures, which have been installed in Tokyo, Barcelona, Paris, and many other cities. "The 'Colomina Red,' the artist's visual signature, embodies the anger, passion, and urgency of the issues he tackles," Colomina's artist biography on the Galeries Bartoux website states. "James Colomina favors a clandestine, spontaneous approach: He places his works directly in the street, without prior announcement, transforming everyday spaces into platforms for artistic reflection." Sen. John Kennedy, 73, clarifies why he froze up on live TV
Soundbite savant Sen. John Kennedy clarified that he didn't suffer a stroke or catch a sexually transmitted disease when he dramatically froze up mid-sentence live on air Tuesday during a Fox Business hit. The one-liner whiz fired back at lefty critics for speculating he suffered a medical scare after what looked like troubling footage of the 73-year-old growing stonefaced went viral on social media. 'Yesterday I was on your show. I enjoyed it. I was just yapping away, and all of a sudden, my earpiece blew up. This one — it sounded like a 747 was taking off,' Kennedy told host Larry Kudlow on Wednesday, motioning to his earpiece. 'Man, my ears are still ringing. Anyway, so I just, assumed we were off air. I just stopped talking, and I didn't start talking again until I could hear you.' A day prior, Kennedy had been discussing the Trump administration's crackdown on sanctuary cities, when suddenly he trailed off mid-sentence before staring blankly off to the side. 4 Sen. The Louisiana Republican later returned to the air Tuesday, about half a minute after the incident and was still mired by technical issues and trouble hearing Kudlow. Kudlow seemed to corroborate Kennedy's claim that there was a technical issue, stressing 'I think that's all that happened' and 'a lot of people are making conclusions about your health that they had no business making.' 4 Sen. Over the weekend, the 59-year-old supermodel shared a few photos taken at a lakeside property in Ontario, sparking some controversy online. "What happens at the lake, stays at the lake," Crawford captioned her post, which featured a photo of herself in a boxing stance with 30-year-old YouTube personality Logan Paul. She included a hashtag for "Camp Salter," referring to the lakeside property Canadian billionaire Jamie Salter, 63, owns in Muskoka. The other pictures in her Instagram upload showed Paul posing alongside Crawford's husband Rande Gerber, 63, and Salter, along with a larger group photo featuring multiple people wearing hoodies with "Camp Salter" written on the chest. In the sun-soaked photos from Goshulak Island, the 36-year-old actor spent time on the lake boating, jet-skiing and wakeboarding with his fiancée, Allison Hsu. In his now-deleted post, the Canadian star included a caption that was nothing short of a love letter to Goshulak Island, revealing it has been his "safe haven for over a decade." In a red carpet interview with etalk at the 2023 Oscars, Hudson recalled her family's go-to pit-stop when driving up to their Northern retreat. "You got to go to Tim Hortons, and I usually just get coffee," she told Canadian TV host Tyrone Edwards. Martin Short Canadian comedian Martin Short is a big fan of Muskoka. The Only Murders in the Building star owns a cottage on Lake Rosseau and has even honoured his summer getaways in Ontario by creating a collector's coin. In 2013, the 75-year-old actor teamed up with artist Tony Bianco to create a $3 coin for the Royal Canadian Mint. The 69-year-old star owns a stunning lakeside cottage full of bay and picture windows, according to Bavarian Window Works. In the past, Hanks has shown his love for Canadians and the country's beauty. He replied to a letter from a fan in Toronto in 2016 who made a bet to see who could get a bet from a famous actor the fastest. "Toronto, huh?
