MISS JONES (5) was bumped on the turn when fourth to Regimental Colours here first-up before a second behind Glorious Moments at Canterbury. THE STARS (7) was good in her first campaign including a nose second to Scalable at Canterbury and a third to Kilanova at Rosehill. Has been good in both recent Randwick trials. BET: FROM THE PEAK to win. RACE 2: 2YO F MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) MERCY ME (6) is a first starter by Hellbent. Made steady ground under a hold when second in her Beaumont trial. Led and responded when shaken up to win her Wyong trial from Raging Force. BESIDE THE OCEAN (1) is a half-sister to Farnan by Zoustar on debut. Sat outside the leader to win her first Rosehill trial. Closed nicely late when second to Magical Star in her second heat on June 20. RACE 3: BENCHMARK 64 (1200m) KILONOVA (4) was backed from $5 into $3.50 on debut at Rosehill in February. Proved the market move right with a handy long-neck win from Fleeting Spirit over the 1200m. Was strong through the line without any pressure when just behind the placegetters in both recent trials. VERMICELLA (3) won on debut over 1200m at Queanbeyan and kicked off last campaign with a narrow win over the same track and distance. Wasn't pushed when third in her June 21 Queanbeyan trial. VANESSI (2) will take improvement from her first-up third to Livin' Thing on the Kensington. BET: KILONOVA to win. RACE 4: 5YO+ BENCHMARK 72 (1000m) ELEGANT EMPRESS (7) was good in her first two runs back from a spell over 1100m on heavy tracks in town. Appreciated a drop back in grade and distance to score a gutsy win over 900m at Newcastle after racing wide. Has three wins and three placings over the 1000m. ROMEO'S CHOICE (1) the class runner resuming here. First go over 1000m but goes well fresh, gets a 3kg claim and was sharp in his 796m trial win here. ZARAGOZA (4) was a close second to Livin' Thing over 1000m at Kembla before a win and another second over that same track and distance. BET: ELEGANT EMPRESS each-way. RACE 5: 4YO+ BENCHMARK 72 (1400m) AMERICAN STARLET (10) went back to last from her wide gate and made up a lot of ground to finish a two-length fifth behind Motoscafo in a 1200m Midway at Rosehill when resuming on June 14. Drawn ideally suited stepping up to 1400m. MORITZ GIRL (8) won a 1600m Highway from Fiorsum Fred at Randwick before a close second on the Kensington and a third in the Bega Cup last campaign. Will be improved by her first-up third to Denman Star at Canterbury. BELIEVE IN ANGELS (7) is backing up from a fifth on the Kensington last week. BET: AMERICAN STARLET to win. RACE 6: BENCHMARK 72 (1600m) HOPPER (7) was well backed first-up and was good beating Gunroom who won his next start. He followed with a game second to Mickey's Medal at Rosehill before a handy fifth to Rotagilla at Randwick. Blinkers go on. PINK SHALALA (9) broke his maiden in a BM64 at Canterbury in February after three minor placings. Has finished in the money at his last three runs, the latest a third to Hasty Honey on the Kensington last week. NANA'S WISH (2) was just the placegetters in two Victorian runs before scoring a handy win from No Drama at Canterbury on June 18. BET: HOPPER to win. RACE 7: BENCHMARK 64 (1600m) HOOLIGAN TOMMY (1) was impressive winning at Kembla two starts ago when he came from back in the field and raced away to score by over three lengths from Stay Tuned. Stepped up to a Randwick Midway when sixth to Callistemon on June 21. Back in grade and gets a 3kg claim. SISTER DAAE (8) defied a betting from $2.50 to $4 when she charged home down the outside to beat Invisible Magic in a Kensington Super Maiden on June 11. Has had an easy trial since. AROHA STONE (10) followed a close second to stablemate Caltsar at Kembla with a good win at Gosford. Ready for the step up to metropolitan company. BET: HOOLIGAN TOMMY each-way.

Reds bracing for new, exciting next-gen British Lions

A Queensland Reds side brimming with Wallabies hopefuls has a "point to prove" against a British & Irish Lions team that represents the next generation of northern hemisphere rugby. The up-tempo Lions ran over the top of the Western Force in a one-sided 54-7 opening to their Australian tour on Saturday. Coach Andy Farrell, with an eye to the first Test on July 19, has made 14 changes ahead of Wednesday's clash with the Reds in front of an expected 50,000 at Suncorp Stadium. Scottish flyhalf Finn Russell has retained his No.10 jersey though and will partner Irish scrumhalf Jamison Gibson-Park for the first time in a potentially devastating combination. Twelve years ago the Reds scored two tries to the Lions' one, but lost 22-12 as Owen Farrell kicked five penalty goals. "The game's changing up there," Reds assistant and former English Premiership backrower Jonathon Fisher said. "The days of kicking and chasing and hoping for good outcomes at the set piece, from a northern hemisphere (perspective), are very much a thing of the past." Fisher was playing at Northampton when rising English star Henry Pollock, who starred against the Force, was in their junior development program. "There's a generation of players and coaches who are forward-thinking, progressive in the way they attack and use the ball," Fisher said. "The quality of player, particularly these halves; the width and speed of pass, vision, appreciation of space. It's an exciting prospect." Ironically, 12 years after Quade Cooper pulled the strings for the free-wheeling Reds, it could be the hosts leaning on their scrum and rolling maul. But under Les Kiss, who coached with Fisher at London Irish before moving to Ballymore, the Reds have balanced that set piece strength with bold counter-attack and opportunistic support play. "We want to make it very clear to the world watching ... what Queensland rugby is," Fisher said. "Our set piece is strong; our scrum, our maul. "But in terms of slowing the game down, I don't think that's in our control. We won't be changing what we do." The Reds beat the Lions in 1899 (11-3) and 1971 (15-11), with the Brumbies in 2013 the next Australian provincial side - and first worldwide in 16 years - to taste victory against the tourists. Captain Jock Campbell, who skippered the Reds in a 36-35 loss to Wales a year ago, will lead a long list of Test hopefuls with "a point to prove". Hooker Matt Faessler and centre Hunter Paisami have been pulled from the Wallabies squad to play for the Reds while Seru Uru and Lukhan Salakaia-Loto are returning from injury and in the mix for the first Lions Test. Campbell, Josh Flook, Josh Canham and Aidan Ross, the former All Blacks prop who will become eligible to play for Australia next week, also have a platform. "It's a big opportunity to show on a world stage what they've got," Campbell, who has played four Tests, said. "I'd hope all the boys are looking to do that."

2025 The Kosciuszko: Defending champ Far Too Easy is out

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Reigning champion Far Too Easy won't be eligible to defend his The Kosciuszko crown this spring with trainer David McColm eyeing off another $2 million feature on The Everest day. Far Too Easy claimed the state's richest country sprint at his third attempt last spring after a pair of near misses in the race. The build up for this year's Kosciuszko began in earnest on Tuesday with TAB sweepstakes tickets for slot holders going on sale. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! But a stable move from Murwillumbah to the Gold Coast has ruled McColm's stable star out of a fourth tilt at the 1200m feature. 'It weighed heavily on our minds (to delay the move) but it was a bit of a difficult one,' McColm said. 'We've got 16 boxes on the Gold Coast. We had been at Murwillumbah for 30 years so it's a massive undertaking and for the family to pack up, move schools, and stuff like that, it's daunting in that respect but from a training point of view it will be nice. 'There are a couple of different races we are looking, one of them on The Everest day (the Sydney Stakes), so we will be back down in the spring, it just won't be in the Kosciuszko.' The Group 3 $2 million Sydney Stakes (1200m) is also run on October 18 at Royal Randwick, less than an hour before the $20 million The Everest. • Via Sistina's back … and she has some familiar targets in mind Far Too Easy was on the third line of betting at $8 for The Kosciuszko. Two-time The Kosciuszko winner Front Page, runner-up in last year's race, is the $4 early favourite for this year's feature sprint with Clear Thinking at $6 and both Gallant Star and Know Thyself at $8. Sweepstakes tickets will be available until Monday, September 8 with 14 tickets drawn on September 10. Winning ticket holders will then negotiate a slot deal with connections of NSW country or ACT-trained horses. Far Too Easy is a $4.50 chance to end his winter carnival preparation on a high note in Saturday's Listed $300,000 Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast. A second crack at the Listed $200,000 Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on July 16 is off the table for Far Too Easy.
