Rs 1,000 cr TASMAC scam : ED continues raid, questions MD for 2nd day, TN Min condemns
conducted raids at the residence of State-owned Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation
(TASMAC) MD and IAS Officer S Visakan and subjected him for questioning on Saturday in connection with the Rs 1,000 crore alleged irregularities unearthed by it.
Reports said, a team of ED officials searched Visakan's premises for the second day in
succession, which was condemned by DMK government by terming it as an act of political
vendetta and harassment.
After questioning him yesterday and releasing him last night, he was subjected to questioning
today also at the ED office.
The ED after earlier raids in March, as a follow up action, again launched searches in more than
10 locations linked to TASMAC yesterday and continued it at Visakan's premises for the second
day today.
Meanwhile, the ruling DMK condemned the raids and harassing the TASMAC officials in the
guise of searches as politically motivated and an act of vendetta by the BJP-led government
at the Centre and said the government would support the officials through legal measures.
In a statement here, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Prohibition, and Excise S.Muthusamy strongly condemned the searches carried out by the ED on the premises linked
to government officials and others in connection with the alleged Rs 1,000-crore scam in
TASMAC, the monopoly in retail sale of liquor sale in the state, and said the State government
would support the officials legally.
Asserting that no no evidence were found during the raids, he said instead the ED authorities
were harassing the officials, while terming it as vindictive and 'politically motivated and political vendetta'.
Mr. Muthusamy also said the ED's claim of unearthing Rs 1,000 crore scam during the raids on TASMAC earlier in March as imaginary and to justify this false news, it is continuously harassing
the TASMAC officials.
"The State government will support the officials by taking necessary legal measures", he added.

Bengaluru: Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje has accused the Congress-led Karnataka government of reducing the land allotted to the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) from 46 acres to just 9 acres in the prime Hebbal area in Bengaluru to 'benefit' the real estate lobby and illegal immigrants. The area falls under the Bengaluru North Lok Sabha constituency, which MoS Karandlaje represents. Speaking to reporters after inspecting the site, where a proposed multimodal transport hub was to be developed, MoS Karandlaje said, 'We are in the Hebbal area of Bengaluru. In 2000, under the leadership of then CM late S.M. Krishna, 51 acres of land in the Hebbal-Amanikere area were acquired. After encroachments, 48 acres remain today. Just a month ago, the current government decided to hand over this land to BMRCL for the development of a multimodal transport hub.' 'However, very recently, the allotment was reduced to just 9 acres. Why was this done? Why did the government backtrack from its original decision to allocate 48 acres and now grant only 9? Who is behind this decision? Which real estate mafia is influencing this move? Let us not forget - this land is situated en route to the Bengaluru International Airport,' she said. Emphasising the strategic importance of the location, she said, 'This is going to be a major junction. A Metro station, BMTC depot, Ring Road connection, and NHAI roads are all planned here. The area is ideal for a multimodal transport hub that can significantly ease traffic congestion on the airport road.' 'But now, the government and the minister in charge have colluded to override the previous decision. How much money exchanged hands? How much was given to Randeep Singh Surjewala? These questions need answers,' she said. She added that local farmers, who had given up their land for development, are now demanding it back if it is going to be handed over to private parties. Delhi woman orchestrates robbery at relative's house with 2 friends posing as CBI officers
A woman, allegedly inspired by the Bollywood film Raid, got two friends to pose as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers and rob her relative in Delhi's Wazirabad area, said the police. The three accused were arrested Friday. On July 10, at around 7.30 pm. Israt Jameel, a catering business owner, was at home in Gali No. 9, Wazirabad, when he heard a knock on the door. Three masked people, one woman and two men, all clad in sharp white shirts and black pleated pants, were at his door. They introduced themselves as CBI officers of the Okhla division, the police said. Jameel, a MPhil from Delhi University and a former Railways food contractor, was concerned. There was no reason for a central agency to knock on the door of his home in a lower-middle-class locality of North Delhi. He asked the CBI officials the same, trying to check their credentials. 'They said they had an FIR and search warrant against them. When the complainant asked for a copy of the FIR and search warrant, they rebuked and abused him,' DCP (North) Raja Banthia said. One of the three CBI impersonators allegedly introduced himself as Suni Dubey, and moved Jameel, his wife and their three children to a corner. The other two searched the house for 'evidence', before they hopped onto an old steel almirah, said the police. They allegedly broke open the lock and took the jewellery of Jameel's wife, both gold and silver, along with Rs 3 lakh cash. 'Before they (accused) left the house, Jameel asked for the receipt of the jewellery articles and the procedure to retrieve them. The three accused put their signatures on Jameel's daughter's notebook under fake names and wrote that they were taking the proceeds as evidence. Then they escaped,' DCP Banthia said. Jameel, still finding it odd that he had been raided by officers wearing masks, with no identity card or FIR to show for it, called the police. An FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 307 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint), 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), and 334 (dishonestly breaking open a receptacle containing property) was registered at the Wazirabad police station. The police then scanned through 200 CCTVs in the area, and found the bike of the accused. The bike, the police said, was registered in the name of a woman named Shaina, 22, a resident of the Karawal Nagar area. The other accused seen on the bike was recognised as Keshav Prashad, 28, a resident of Shanti Nagar in Delhi. Both their houses were raided, but neither of them was found. The police then put their phones on tracking and found that the accused were constantly shifting locations in Uttarakhand. 'The police team followed their location and on Friday evening, the accused Keshav Prasad and Shaina were apprehended from Mussurie, Uttarakhand and at their instance, other accomplice Vivek Singh was apprehended from Haridwar,' DCP Banthia said. The police said Shaina confessed to the crime, saying that Jameel is her distant relative. Based on family hearsay, she learned about the cash he kept in his house and devised the plan. She then allegedly roped in Keshav, a friend who owns a food supplement store in Haridwar. Keshav then called his friend Vivek, 20, a student at the School of Open Learning, University of Delhi, who also joined in, said the police.

Martyrs Day rally: Trinamool Congress gears up to sharpen Bengali pride narrative amid migrant row
With an eye on Assembly polls next year in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is gearing up to turn its annual Martyrs' Day rally into a powerful platform to sharpen its Bengali pride narrative and hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking migrants in saffron-ruled States. Set against the backdrop of rising tensions over the linguistic profiling and treatment of Bengali migrant workers in BJP-governed States such as Assam, Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi, the July 21 rally in Kolkata's Esplanade is expected to see Trinamool Congress supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issue a clarion call to her party workers, reiterating her message that "Bengalis are not second-class citizens in their own country."
