'Always Sunny' Star Files To Legally Change His Name, And His Family Isn't Thrilled

If you have a hard time pronouncing Rob McElhenney's name, you're apparently not alone.
The 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' creator and star has filed papers in Los Angeles to legally change his name to Rob Mac, People has confirmed. Mac is the name of McElhenney's character in his beloved FX comedy and is the first syllable in his family's surname.
Mac will now be credited as Rob Mac in projects moving forward, Entertainment Weekly reports, although FX has already been crediting him by this name in its online materials.
The official name change comes shortly after the actor told Variety in May that he was toying around with the idea of legally changing his name because his company, More Better Productions, is expanding internationally.
'As our business and our storytelling is expanding into other regions of the world and other languages in which my name is even harder to pronounce, I'm just going by Rob Mac,' he said.
More Better was behind the docuseries 'Welcome to Wrexham,' which chronicled Mac and actor Ryan Reynolds' acquisition of the football club Wrexham AFC in the United Kingdom.
Although the name change might make it easier for people to pronounce his name, it seems that Mac's immediate family — which includes his wife and 'Always Sunny' co-star Kaitlin Olson — is a bit miffed by it.
'The kids are really not happy about it, because they have that last name,' Olson told Variety. 'And so do I, legally!'
The 'Hacks' star, who still uses Olson professionally, and Mac share two sons, Axel, 14, and Leo, 13.
The two teens may want to follow their dad's lead in the future, however. Mac told Variety that during a recent bash to celebrate his 48th birthday in April, some of his extended family members admitted they've been tempted to change the name as well. He also noted to Variety that he recently discovered some relatives had tweaked 'McElhenney' over the years.

‘South Park' creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are not happy about the Paramount/Skydance merger

'South Park' creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone don't find anything funny about the planned acquisition of Paramount Global by Skydance Media. 'In response to the press release from Comedy Central about the change in premiere date for South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone said: This merger is a s**tshow and it's f**king up South Park,' the two wrote in a post shared on social media. 'We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.' 'South Park' airs on Comedy Central, which is a part of Paramount. The company is in the process of being sold to Skydance Media. New episodes of 'South Park' were scheduled to air after a two-year wait on July 9. The Season 27 premiere has been pushed to July 23. The delay comes amid uncertainty and negotiations over streaming rights to the popular animated property, according to Deadline. 'South Park' had an exclusive streaming contract with HBO Max that expired last week. Paramount Global recently announced an agreement to pay $16 million to resolve a lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump over a '60 Minutes' news report aired on CBS last fall. The merger is reportedly expected to close on July 6, though it could possibly be extended.

CRIMSON TIDE 2 Is Surfacing: Jerry Bruckheimer Teases Sequel, Eyes Denzel Washington's Return — GeekTyrant

It's been three decades since Crimson Tide first detonated in theaters. This was an intense, claustrophobic thriller of submarine warfare, nuclear standoffs, and powerhouse performances. I never thought we'd ever see a sequel, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer is ready to dive back into the deep. During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Bruckheimer revealed that a Crimson Tide sequel is in early development. 'We have a really good director and writer talking to the navy right now about what's going on under the water.' Bruckheimer didn't drop any names, but the project is in motion! The big question is will Denzel Washington return as Commander Hunter? Well, Bruckheimer said: 'If we give him a good script, I think he'd do it.' A source close to Washington confirmed that his involvement hinges entirely on the script, which, as of now, hasn't been completed. If Washington does come aboard, he'll be without his original on-screen counterpart. Gene Hackman, who played the hard-ass Captain Ramsey, passed away earlier this year at age 95. The original director, Tony Scott, and co-writer Robert Towne have also passed on. Reflecting on the original film's talent, Bruckheimer said: 'We had Tony Scott, a phenomenal director. We had Quentin Tarantino and Robert Towne, two of the greatest writers and directors, writing on that movie. … I don't know if I'll ever replicate that kind of writing for a film.' While Michael Schiffer received the official screenwriting credit, Crimson Tide went through several hands. Quentin Tarantino added uncredited dialogue punch-ups, and names like Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, Tommy Lee Jones, and Brad Pitt circled the project at various stages. Bruckheimer, who stopped by Eisen's show to promote his upcoming racing film F1 no stranger to slow-burn sequels. After all, it took nearly four decades to get Top Gun: Maverick off the ground. He's hoping the same won't be true for Crimson Tide 2 . As for the upcoming Top Gun 3 , Bruckheimer teased: 'I can't talk about [the story] yet, but it's a real good one.' I would love to see Bruckheimer get Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinki on board with this! I know he's make a badass sequel! The original movie is freakin' fantastic!
