Armed robbers flee with Rs 2.5 million after shooting security guard in Karachi
Armed robbers in Karachi snatched Rs 2.5 million from a poultry farm businessman and shot his security guard during the robbery.
The security guard was severely injured, with a bullet wound to his head, and was transferred in critical condition to Jinnah Hospital.
The businessman, who runs a poultry farm, was on his way to deposit the money at a bank with his security guard when the incident occurred.
As they were driving near Korangi No.2, a Suzuki Alto car blocked their path, and armed robbers in the car demanded the money. When the businessman resisted, the robbers opened fire and fled the scene. The bullet struck the security guard in the head, leaving him badly injured.
The incident took place just as Eidul-Fitr approaches, with an uptick in street crimes and robberies in the city. The police were alerted to the incident, and SSP Korangi along with other officers reached the scene quickly.
Crime scene investigators were called to collect evidence, and the police gathered CCTV footage from the area. The injured security guard was identified as 35-year-old Amir Ahmed.
According to SSP Korangi Tariq Nawaz, the victim, Farhan, was heading to the bank with his friend Basheer and security guard when they were ambushed by three to four armed robbers.
The robbers, who were in a white Alto car, stole the Rs 2.5 million and fled after the shooting. The victim stated that the robbers were armed and quickly escaped after the crime.
The police have initiated an investigation using technical and human intelligence and conducted geo-fencing of the area. The police are hopeful that within the next 24 hours, they will be able to track down the suspects involved in the robbery.
Farhan, the poultry businessman, confirmed that he was on his way to deposit the money at the bank when the armed robbers blocked their car and took the money. He mentioned that the robbers were three to four in number and were riding in a white Alto car.
Last week, armed robbers looted more than Rs1.15 million from the staff of the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Hadeed, holding them at gunpoint in a late-night attack.
According to driver Sher Jan, the robbery took place at the last stop of the bus service, where he and other employees were resting. Six assailants arrived in a vehicle, with two staying inside while four entered the premises. One of them wore a mask.

Residents protest eviction after Kharadar building declared unsafe
For the second day in a row, residents of a residential apartment building in the old city area of Kharadar remained stranded under the open sky after being forcibly evicted when the structure was declared unsafe by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). The affected families have appealed to the Sindh governor and other senior officials, calling for an independent structural assessment of the building by a credible engineering firm. According to the displaced families, no alternative accommodation was provided, and many of their belongings remain locked inside the sealed building. The residents say that the building is structurally sound, with no visible cracks in the foundation, beams, or pillars. They allege that the eviction was orchestrated by a local builder who had earlier offered them Rs1.5 million per unit- far below the market value of Rs seven to eight million for vacating their apartments. "This was not a case of public safety. This was a land grab in the guise of safety," said one resident, speaking on condition of anonymity. "Until we are allowed to return to our homes, we will continue to stage our protest here." They further claim that the SBCA used heavy-handed tactics, including disconnecting electricity and gas connections, removing metres, and sealing the building's main gate. Notices declaring the structure unsafe were reportedly pasted both on Hajra Manzil and an adjacent, visibly dilapidated building -which has been uninhabited for years but has not been sealed. The residents allege they were given just 12 hours to leave and that women and children were forcibly evicted. "We were thrown out without warning, and now we are on the street," said another affected resident. The SBCA has yet to officially respond to the residents' claims or provide clarification regarding the inspection and criteria used to declare the building unsafe.

Protest causes major traffic disruption in Punjab Colony, Karachi

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting has expressed serious concern over the illegal occupation of Radio Pakistan buildings in Karachi and electricity theft through unauthorized connections. Senator Waqar Mehdi raised the issue during the committee meeting on Tuesday, urging immediate inspections of Radio Pakistan properties across the country to assess conditions and prevent further encroachments. The meeting, chaired by Senator Ali Zafar, also advanced the Prohibition of Unethical Advertisements Act, 2025, as lawmakers pushed for stricter controls on content promoting gambling, alcohol, and inappropriate clothing while calling for a balanced approach that avoids excessive regulation and police overreach. The committee decided to proceed with voting on the bill, seeking the Information Minister's formal stance. Senator Afnan Ullah cited gambling ads during cricket matches and depictions of alcohol in TV dramas as examples of regulatory lapses, while Senator Sarmad Ali proposed oversight by PTA or religious advisory boards. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, however, warned against overregulation of cultural norms and urged a focus on enforcing existing PEMRA laws.
