Tirupati to host nat'l conference on women empowerment on Sept 14, 15
Chairing a high-level preparatory meeting at the district Collectorate on Wednesday, the Speaker explained the significance of the national conference and called for coordinated efforts by all departments to ensure its success.
The meeting was attended by Assembly Deputy Speaker K Raghurama Krishna Raju, District In-charge Minister Anagani Satya Prasad, Assembly Secretary General Suryadevara Prasanna Kumar, TTD Chairman BR Naidu, Executive Officer J Syamala Rao, District Collector Dr S Venkateswar, Assembly OSD Pettanna Choudary, and other senior officials.
Addressing the gathering, Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu said the two-day event would bring together legislative committees on women's empowerment from all State Assemblies and the Parliamentary committee, with each State sending a delegation of 5 to 6 members.
The participants will deliberate on critical social issues affecting women and are expected to formulate policy recommendations, which will later be discussed in the respective legislative bodies. He urged all officials to extend their full support in making the conference an unprecedented success, befitting the importance of the subject.
Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishna Raju informed that the conference will begin with a spiritual visit to the Tirumala temple on the morning of September 14, followed by the official inauguration at 10 am. Cultural events, including a Sound and Light Show at Chandragiri Fort, will be organised for the delegates. On September 15, efforts will be made to showcase Srikalahasti's spiritual heritage and the famed Kalamkari art, he said.
District In-charge Minister Satya Prasad stated that liaison officers would be appointed for the visiting delegates, and arrangements related to security, accommodation and conference venues were being meticulously planned.
Collector Dr S Venkateswar assured that accommodation would be arranged across various hotels and that tight security protocols would be in place to ensure smooth conduct of the event. After the conference, on September 16, the delegates will be taken on a tour of Sri City, Sriharikota and other key locations.
Among those present were Joint Collector Shubham Bansal, Tirupati Municipal Commissioner N Mourya, trainee Collector Sandeep Raghu Vanshi, Gudur Sub-Collector Raghavendra Meena and MLAs Arani Srinivasulu, Bojjala Sudhir Reddy, N Vijayasree. TDP leaders G Narasimha Yadav, C Diwakar Reddy, M Sugunamma, A Ravi Naidu and others also took part.

Bihar MP's Wife A Voter In 2 Separate Constituencies: Report
New Delhi: A Left MP from Bihar who challenged the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in the Supreme Court has come under a cloud amid reports that his wife was registered as a voter in two separate Assembly constituencies with two distinct EPIC numbers, election office sources said on Sunday. Petitioner and Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation MP Sudama Prasad's wife, Shobha Devi, allegedly had two EPIC numbers – RGX3264140 and WVA0308544. While one of her EPIC numbers was registered in Arrah Assembly constituency with Lavarish Seva Kendra as the designated polling station, the other pertained to Agiaon constituency with Samudayik Bhavan Araila as her polling station, said sources in the Bihar election office. The fresh 'dual EPIC number' controversy comes close to the one involving Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who is also allegedly possessing 'dual' Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers. Earlier, the Supreme Court, while hearing a batch of pleas challenging the electoral roll revision ahead of the Assembly elections in November, posted the matter to August 12, assuring to intervene immediately if there is 'mass exclusion' of voters in the SIR. On Saturday, Tejashwi Yadav stirred a political storm in Patna with a claim that his name was missing in Bihar's draft electoral roll. ECI sources hinted that he might be possessing 'two' EPIC numbers, with only one of them being validated in the SIR. The election office on Sunday wrote to him seeking details of his 'second' EPIC number, which, according to him, had been deleted from the voter list. The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of Digha Assembly constituency asked the Leader of Opposition to present the original copy of the voter ID card whose number was alleged to be missing from the draft electoral roll. 'You are requested to kindly provide the details of the EPIC card (along with the original copy of the card) mentioned by you in the press conference held on August 2, 2025, to the undersigned, so that it can be thoroughly investigated,' wrote the ERO. The letter dated August 3 said the communication was linked to Tejashwi Yadav's 'statement given in the press conference held on August 2, 2025, regarding non-inclusion of names in the draft electoral list published on the basis of eligibility date July 1, 2025'. Delhi Assembly Monsoon Session to run on 100% solar power in push for green energy
The Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly, beginning on Monday (August 4, 2025), will be powered entirely by renewable energy following the inauguration of a 500-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Sunday (August 3, 2025). This milestone makes the Delhi Assembly the first in the country to operate solely on solar energy. Speaking at the inauguration of the solar plant and the new e-Vidhan initiative, which aims to make the Assembly paperless, Mr. Meghwal said, 'Delhi Assembly will be the first where sustainability, self-reliance, and digital empowerment go hand in hand. This fusion of climate responsibility and administrative reform must begin at the heart of democratic institutions.' Sustainable governance Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta described the initiative as a model for how legislative institutions can champion environmental stewardship. Highlighting the historic significance of the Assembly building, constructed in 1912 and once home to the country's first Parliament, Mr. Gupta said it is 'an example of how tradition and progress can go together'. He said that the rooftop solar project is expected to yield savings of up to ₹15 lakh per month, or approximately ₹1.75 crore annually, with potential surplus electricity generation through net metering. Congress to stage protest outside Assembly against slum demolitions
The Congress's Delhi unit on Sunday said it will stage a protest outside the Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon Session on Monday, primarily against the demolition drives carried out in slum clusters across the city. The party said it will raise other issues such as the 'deteriorating law and order' situation, the 'false promise' of ₹2,500 per month to the women, and waterlogging. It will also protest against the school education Bill for being 'anti-parent and anti-education'. Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav said party members met slum dwellers, who he said are living in 'constant fear of being displaced'. 'The BJP government, since it came to power, has already displaced 15,000 families,' the Delhi Congress chief said, adding that slum dwellers should not be displaced without alternative arrangements even if there is a need to relocate them. 'After Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of demolition of JJ Clusters in the Lok Sabha, the Chief Minister of Delhi [Rekha Gupta], under pressure, said that not a single slum in Delhi will be demolished, but on the other hand, asserted that the slums along the railway lines cannot be saved. He [Rahul Gandhi] urged the Delhi government to clarify its intentions towards the slum dwellers, instead of playing with the lives of the poor people,' Mr. Yadav said. Alleging that the Arvind Kejriwal government has locked thousands of flats constructed by the Congress under the Rajiv Rattan Housing Scheme, aimed at providing better living conditions for the poor, for 11 years, Mr. Yadav said, 'Those houses should be repaired and allotted soon to the residents of slums.' Meanwhile, on Saturday, Ms. Gupta inspected government flats built for economically weaker sections (EWS) in 2011 in Sultanpuri, which are in a dilapidated condition. She said that the government is working to meet the demand for one million houses.
