VHP flays Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge over RSS remarks
New Delhi, July 1 (UNI) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today launched a scathing attack on Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge, accusing him of making fallacious and irresponsible remarks about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and termed the Congress party as anti-India. In a statement, VHP National Spokesperson Vinod Bansal said, "Priyank Kharge's arguments come from a deeply distorted mindset. This is not the first time he has made controversial comments about Sanatan Dharma. His public stature is negligible, he only blabbers." Referring to Kharge's statement, made in Bihar, about banning the RSS if the Congress returns to power at the Centre, Bansal said, "They made such claims but couldn't follow through. The Congress party has tried to ban the RSS thrice — each time ending in embarrassment." Citing historical instances, Bansal recalled, "The first attempt was after Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. The court gave them such a tight slap that the mark is still visible. The second was during the Emergency, when the entire nation was held hostage. Indira Gandhi had to go to jail. The third was during the Ram Mandir movement, and again, the courts dismissed their actions." Calling the Congress party shameless, Bansal said, "Despite being rejected by the people and reduced to just two or three states, the Congress continues to make such irresponsible statements. They're trying to salvage their sinking political fortunes by targeting nationalist organizations." He further added, "If they want to understand the RSS, they should attend a shakha. But they have neither the stature nor the credibility to suppress the Sangh or hold India hostage again. They've already murdered democracy and tampered with the Constitution once — that mistake won't be repeated." The strong response from the VHP came after Priyank Kharge today stated: 'If Congress comes to power in the Centre again, we will ban RSS.' He argued that the RSS spreads hatred in society and does not operate within the bounds of the a post on X, Priyank Kharge, the son of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, said: "RSS leaders have long pushed to erase the words 'socialist' and 'secular' from our Constitution. Now, BJP leaders have started parroting the same demand, conveniently ignoring the fact that the Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld their inclusion as integral to the Constitution's spirit."Before preaching constitutional edits, the RSS should take a long, hard look at the BJP's own party constitution. Article II of its preamble clearly states that the BJP is committed to the principles of socialism and secularism. Perhaps they should begin by amending that first." UNI BDN RN

Trump threatens to arrest Zohran Mamdani if he defies ICE as NYC mayor
US President Donald Trump has threatened to arrest Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, if he defies federal immigration to reporters, Trump said Mamdani's refusal to allow ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to arrest undocumented immigrants in the city could lead to legal consequences. "Well, then we'll have to arrest him," Trump said when asked about Mamdani. "We don't need a Communist in this country, but if we have one, I'm going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation."advertisementTrump added, "We send him money. We send him all the things that he needs to run a government. And by the way, they get already, they get about three times what you get, Ron. If you look at the per capita, Florida gets one-third of what New York gets in terms of the numbers." He also addressed claims that Florida receives more because of its high number of Social Security recipients, clarifying, "That's not money to the state. Those are seniors that live here. If they move to North Carolina, you could count it there. So it has no interaction with the state government. They get more on the city and state governments than we get."TRUMP SAYS HE'S HERE ILLEGALLYTrump further escalated his criticism, claiming Mamdani could be in the country illegally. "We're going to be watching that very carefully, and a lot of people are saying he's here illegally. We're going to look at everything. And a Communist — but right now, he's a Communist. That's not a socialist. I've always said, we will not have socialism in this country... he skipped socialism."advertisementTrump didn't hold back, labelling Mamdani as a "total nut job" and adding, "I think he's terrible. He's a communist. The last thing we need is a communist." Mamdani, 33, was born in Uganda to Indian parents and became a US citizen in 2018. He rose to prominence through his outspoken support for Palestinian rights. He officially secured victory in New York City's Democratic mayoral primary, with a final vote count on Tuesday confirming his upset win over former Governor Andrew Cuomo. He now advances to the general addressed Trump's accusations during a June 29 appearance on NBC's Meet the Press, rejecting the claim that he's a HOUSE HINTS AT PROBE INTO MAMDANI'S CITIZENSHIPThe Trump administration has also signalled a potential investigation into Mamdani's citizenship. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to Republican Congressman Andy Ogles, who suggested Mamdani's citizenship should be revoked, accusing him of hiding "terrorist" sympathies during his naturalisation a prior order from the Trump administration, the Justice Department had already directed its lawyers to start the process of denaturalising foreign-born individuals who were suspected of obtaining citizenship through deception or fraud. A memo cited grounds such as "illegally procured" naturalisation or "willful concealment of a material fact."- EndsMust Watch

Indian delegates meet IOC officials, Amdavad India's 2036 nominee
CHENNAI: India are successful in bidding for the 2036 Olympic Games, it will be hosted at Amdavad. Though the buzz was doing the rounds for a while, this is the first official communication that confirms that Amdavad in Gujarat will host the Games. What is interesting is that in the official communique between Indian stakeholders and the International Olympic Committee, Amdavad — the local name for Ahmedabad — has been put forward. As reported by The New Indian Express, an Indian delegation had flown to IOC headquarters for a meeting with Future Host Commission on Tuesday. Though new IOC president Kirsty Coventry halted the 2036 Olympic bid process, the officials consisting of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha and Gujarat sports minister Harsh Sanghavi had flown to Switzerland for the meeting. Apart from top officials from Gujarat, there were other Union sports ministry officials as well. Since the host city plays an integral part in the bidding process, Amdavad seems to be the new nomenclature for the city. It will soon turn into a registered organising committee with trademark and protected by intellectual property rights like Paris 2024, LA28 or Tokyo 2020. When the IOA had sent the Letter of Intent in October last year, it did not name a host city. There were speculations that the Games could be held at different cities across India. But going by the official statement made by the Indian delegation from IOC headquarters, India are engaging in 'continuous dialogue' process. What seems even more interesting is that even Chief Executive Officer, Raghuram Iyer, seems to be back in the IOA fold. He was part of the India delegation as well. Majority of IOA executive committee members have been objecting Iyer's appointment in January last year. The IOC had earlier accepted his appointment.
