BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Immigration and National Registration Department recently conducted three enforcement operations under the Panyap initiative targeting various locations, resulting in the detention of seven foreign nationals for suspected immigration offences.
In Operation Panyap 55/2025, two foreigners were detained in Berakas 'A' and Sengkurong. One was found overstaying, while another was allegedly working for an unauthorised employer.
Operation Panyap 56/2025 in Kilanas saw two out of six foreigners inspected taken into custody — one for re-entering Brunei after legal deportation and another for failing to present valid documents.
Meanwhile, Operation Panyap 57/2025 focused on fish cages along the Brunei River in Kota Batu, where one of three foreigners inspected was detained for working in a position not stated in his passport.
The department also reported a prosecution case involving a 45-year-old Malaysian man, Huong Yew Siong, who was sentenced to four months in prison and three strokes of the cane for entering and staying in the country without a valid immigration pass and for failing to present his passport at entry. The case was transferred from the Royal Brunei Police Force's Kuala Belait branch. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN

Ex-Singapore cop faces 15 charges over sex offences involving at least six boys, producing child porn

SINGAPORE: A former police inspector allegedly committed sex-related offences – including molestation and producing sexually explicit material showing minors – involving at least six boys. He allegedly targeted three boys in one day in April 2024. Sharizal Shafi'ee's alleged offences involved three 14-year-old and three 15-year-old boys, and were allegedly committed while he was still with the Singapore Police Force. The 40-year-old, who has since left the force, was handed 15 charges on July 25. Court documents stated he was in a Jurong West flat on July 31, 2023, when he allegedly persuaded a 15-year-old boy to perform a sexual act over a video call via messaging platform Telegram. Sharizal allegedly used his mobile phone to record the teenager doing so. He was in the same flat on Aug 20, 2023, when he allegedly committed similar offences involving a 14-year-old boy. Sharizal is said to have committed the same offences again with the same boy two days later. He is accused of targeting a second 15-year-old boy twice in November 2023. Similarly, Sharizal allegedly persuaded the teenager to perform a sexual act over a Telegram video call on Nov 12 and 17 that year. After that, he purportedly used his mobile phone to record the teenager doing so on both occasions. On April 18, 2024, he allegedly targeted three victims, first by allegedly committing similar offences against a third 15-year-old boy. He is accused of attempting to procure an obscene act from a second 14-year-old boy along a pavement in Jurong West Avenue 1 that day. Court documents stated Sharizal allegedly requested the teenager's help to adjust Sharizal's bra and asked the boy to follow him. Court documents did not disclose why Sharizal was allegedly wearing the bra at the time. Sharizal allegedly did this so he could touch the boy in an obscene manner. Sharizal allegedly struck again that day when he allegedly molested a third 14-year-old boy at a staircase landing of a Jurong West block of flats. Responding to queries from The Straits Times, the police said they had removed Sharizal from front-line duties before he resigned on June 16, 2024. A police spokesperson added: 'Officers of the Singapore Police Force are expected to uphold the law and maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity. We deal with officers who break the law seriously, including charging them in court. 'We are unable to comment further as court proceedings are ongoing.' Sharizal's case has been adjourned to Aug 22. If convicted of molestation, he can be jailed for up to three years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of such punishments. For each count of producing a sexually explicit video showing a minor, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned. - The Straits Times/ANN

(Video) 'How Dare You!': UK Couple Exposes Street Vendors In London For Selling Fake Malaysian Food

Nothing brings people together quite like good food. When travelling abroad, one of the top priorities on any itinerary is to sample as many local delicacies as possible. Each destination offers a rich variety of delicious dishes just waiting to be savoured by curious visitors. Even if you can't afford to travel, you can still enjoy these dishes, as many restaurants offer authentic cuisine from the countries they represent. However, it's always best to do some research beforehand, just like this UK couple, who were nearly scammed into trying fake Malaysian food by a street vendor. Here's what happened: Earlier this week, UK content creator couple Pat and Giulia posted a video of their recent trip to the northeast of London, where they visited several eateries, one of which served Malaysian cuisine. The first restaurant, Raya, did not disappoint. The pair, who have spent time in Malaysia and are in the process of moving here, described the food as being very similar to what they had tasted during their stay. However, during their day out, the couple decided to highlight a suspicious street vendor who claimed to sell authentic Malaysian dishes but didn't. While visiting Camden Lock Market, a location well known for its diverse food stalls and eateries, they stopped to check out the aforementioned suspicious 'Malaysian' vendor. Pat asked one of the hawkers which dish was a classic Malaysian option. The vendor responded with beef rendang and chilli chicken Manchurian, adding that it was a 'traditional curry from Malaysia'. Sceptical, the influencer decided to expose the stall by asking a question in Malay: 'Kamu dari mana?' (Where are you from?), to which the hawkers froze in silence, unable to respond. Pat asked again, 'Dari mana? Boleh cakap Bahasa Melayu?' (Where are you from? Can you speak Malay?), but once more, there was no reply from the vendors. He called out the vendors for not even being Malaysian and selling fake Malaysian dishes. The accused vendors defended themselves by claiming that their boss was from Malaysia, specifically, Penang. Unconvinced, the content creator continued speaking in Malay, telling them that he had lived in Malaysia and wouldn't be easily fooled by their false claims. 'What an embarrassment that was. They claimed to sell Malaysian food, but it wasn't,' he told viewers. 'I was getting a bit annoyed, like, 'How dare you say this is Malaysian food?''. The vlog has since gone viral, with many Malaysians praising the content creators for being able to spot fake Malaysian food after having lived in the country. Others commented that they would have reacted far more strongly if they had discovered someone misrepresenting their national cuisine. What would you have done if you were in this situation? The drama unfolded on 22 July in Semporna, Sabah, when a group of tourists, including Taiwanese visitors, were heading to During the boat ride, an oxygen tank accidentally fell over due to the vessel's movement, striking the foot of a 38-year-old Malaysian diving instructor. That's when things went sideways. When Accidents Turn Ugly Instead of treating it as the accident it was, the instructor decided to make it everyone else's problem. After getting his injured foot treated at Tawau Hospital, he returned to the diving centre the next day, demanding compensation from the tourist whose equipment had fallen. What happened next was caught on camera and quickly went viral across social media platforms. The video shows the instructor confronting the tourists outside the Quality Diving Centre in Semporna. In the footage, you can see him slapping the foreign tourist while arguing with what appears to be a female companion. The entire exchange happens in Mandarin, with the slapped tourist asking someone off-camera, 'Did you call the police?' while the woman repeatedly asks the instructor, 'What does this have to do with us?' Staff members can be seen trying to intervene and separate the parties, but the damage was already done. The Diving Centre's Damage Control Quality Diving Centre quickly distanced itself from the instructor. In a lengthy Facebook statement posted the day after the incident, the company made it crystal clear: this guy wasn't even their employee. 'The instructor involved was not wearing a uniform and is not an employee of our company,' the diving centre stated, adding that all their actual staff wear uniforms. They detailed how they immediately tried to defuse the situation by separating the groups onto different boats and scheduling their return times at different intervals to avoid further conflict. The company also revealed that when the instructor showed up at their shop the morning after the boat incident, the owner, described as over 60 years old and not fluent in Malay, immediately tried to get him to leave. When the instructor refused and the assault occurred, the staff called the police. We strongly condemn acts of violence. If this had been our employee, they would have been immediately terminated.
