Bhopal: Ten days after the arrival of monsoon in Bhopal was officially declared, the city still awaits its first heavy rainfall. On Saturday too, the sky remained clear during the day.
The city, however, witnessed scattered drizzle and strong winds during the evening hours. The silver lining: A warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds has been issued for the city.
Officials of the meteorological department, Bhopal circle, said a cyclonic circulation lay over central parts of south UP and extended up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Bangladesh and West Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours.
It is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha and Jharkhand.
The east-west trough ran from the upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal to northeast Madhya Pradesh across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh, the meteorological dept stated.
The day temperature in Bhopal on Saturday was recorded at 28.8 degrees Celsius, five degrees less than the normal mark, while the night temperature in the city was 23.6 degrees Celsius, a degree less than normal.

The air quality was in the "satisfactory" category at 9 a.m. on Sunday with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 85, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
