The Big Bang Theory spin-off Stuart Fails to Save the Universe gets the green light at Max
Max issued a series order for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, centering on The Big Bang Theory comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), via press release.
The series reunites The Big Bang Theory creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, who co- created the spin-off alongside franchise newcomer Zak Penn (The Avengers).
While the original show and spin-offs Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage were more straight comedies, this show will have a heavy dose of sci-fi paired with comedy.
The show follows Stuart as he's, 'tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device,' which was created by Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki), which, accidentally starts a 'multiverse Armageddon.'
Lauren Lapkus returns as Stuart's girlfriend Denise, alongside geologist Bert (Brian Posehn) and quantum physicist Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie), who all recurred on the original Big Bang Theory.
They all join Stuart on his journey, along with 'alternate universe versions' of beloved characters from The Big Bang Theory as well, and, 'as the title implies, things don't go well.'
Lorre, Prady and Penn will all serve as executive producers on the series from Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and HBO Max Content, stated, 'We're excited to be continuing the legacy of The Big Bang Theory. Much like the original series, this new chapter wouldn't be possible without the vision and storytelling brilliance of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, as well as Zak Penn, who has brought fresh insight and a distinctive voice to an already exceptional creative team.'
Lorre added, 'I wanted to do something radical that would take me out of my comfort zone. Something the characters on The Big Bang Theory, would have loved, hated, and argued about."
Penn stated, 'I was on a vision quest in the most remote parts of the Amazon Rainforest when a carrier pigeon arrived with a note from Chuck Lorre asking if I wanted to help make a show that the characters from Big Bang Theory would watch.'
He added, 'I couldn't resist that idea, so I packed up my yurt and hailed the next dirigible out. At the same time, Chuck sent an expedition to locate Bill Prady, who had been frozen with his shield across his chest in a block of arctic ice. The team assembled, we set out to make this insane show, which lives in a universe created by Chuck and Bill. I couldn't be more honored to be working with these amazing people.'
Prady said, 'The process of writing this show with Chuck and Zak has been damn fun, and I'm certain that joy will come through the screen. Putting characters we loved from The Big Bang Theory into a complex science fiction story with the kind of mythology that those characters love while maintaining the comedic elements is incredibly satisfying.'
The Big Bang Theory ran from 2007 to 2019, spanning 12 seasons and 279 episodes, starring Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar.
CBS also greenlit the prequel spin-off Young Sheldon, starring Iain Armitage as the young Sheldon Cooper, a child genius growing up in East Texas.
That show - which Parsons also narrated and served as executive producer on - ran for seven seasons from 2017 to 2024, spanning 141 episodes.
That spin-off also spawned another - Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage - starring Montana Jordan as Sheldon's older brother Georgie and Emily Osment as Mandy.
The 1990s-set series debuted in October and was renewed by CBS for a second season in February.

Unreleased Beyoncé music stolen in Atlanta during Cowboy Carter tour
Beyoncé's choreographer and one of her dancers for the Cowboy Carter tour told police that thieves broke into their vehicle and stole numerous items, including jump drives full of unreleased music, footage for her upcoming shows and past and future setlists. The alleged robbery, first reported by Channel 2 in Atlanta, occurred less than 48 hours before the singer kicked off a four-show residence at the city's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. When they returned to the vehicle, they discovered that the trunk window had been damaged, and that two suitcases had been stolen. Grant advised police that the suitcases contained 'personal sensitive information for the musician Beyoncé', including hard drives related to her upcoming Atlanta shows, watermarked music, unreleased music and past and future setlists. Representatives for the singer have not responded to requests for comment. Grant and Blue also reported clothes, designer sunglasses, laptops and a pair of headphones were stolen from the vehicle. Police used Apple's 'find my' service connected to the headphones to an undisclosed location. 'I conducted a suspicious stop in the area, due to the information that was relayed to me,' an officer wrote in the report. 'There were several cars in the area also that the AirPods were pinging to in that area also. After further investigation, a silver [redacted], which had traveled into zone 5 was moving at the same time as the tracking on the AirPods.' Police also questioned a subject, who Channel 2 declined to reveal until they officially named a suspect. Beyoncé kicked off her Cowboy Carter tour in late April in Los Angeles, in service of her Grammy-winning 2024 album of the same name that sought to expand the bounds and ownership of country music. The critically acclaimed show, with an evolving setlist and detailed visual elements, crossed the US before heading to Europe for the summer. Allison Williams has landed herself a new role as an NFL sideline reporter at Fox Sports, as she prepares to replace one of their long-standing presenters. Williams will be looking to make further strides at the network which she joined in 2022, after her unceremonious exit from rival broadcasters ESPN a year prior. In 2021, Williams left ESPN after they refused to accommodate her decision not to get the COVID-19 vaccine because she was trying to get pregnant. The Walt Disney Company, which owns ESPN, mandated that all cast members need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 — however, Williams was trying for a child and announced that she would not be getting it. She eventually left the network — where she worked on the sidelines at college football and basketball games — and swiftly joined Fox Sports. Since then, she has worked as a college football sideline reporter and studio host for Fox. However, she is now set to make another step forward in her career. According to Front Office Sports, Williams will take on the role of NFL sideline reporter on one of the network's announce teams this season and replace the departing Laura Okmin. Okmin will bid farewell to the network after turning down a contract extension. She is the third-longest-tenured sideline reporter in NFL history. She was initially barred from working on the sidelines of college football games this season because she refused to comply with the network's vaccine mandate while she and her husband try for their second child. In an Instagram video shared at the time, a visibly emotional Williams said that her 'request for accommodation' had been denied, about a month after announcing she would be sitting the season out because she hadn't yet received the vaccination. 'Ultimately, I can not put a paycheck over principal and I will not sacrifice something I believe in strongly to maintain a career,' Williams said near-tears in the video. Shortly after that, she confirmed that she would be 'separating' from ESPN. 'And I've had to really dig deep and analyze my values and my morals, and ultimately I need to put them first.' 'And the irony in all this is that a lot of those same values and principals I hold so dear are what made me a really good employee and probably helped with the success that I've been able to have in my career.' Williams, who had been with the network since 2011, said she was having trouble coming to terms with the fact that the national championship game she covered in January, 2021, may now be the last college football game she will work. In a statement, a spokesman for ESPN told 'We aren't going to comment on an individual. We are going through a thorough review of accommodation requests on a case by case basis, and are granting accommodations consistent with our legal obligations. Our focus is on a safe work environment for everyone.'
