Fans React to Diamondbacks' Josh Naylor Decision Before White Sox Game
Fans React to Diamondbacks' Josh Naylor Decision Before White Sox Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor is currently playing in his seventh major league season since being drafted by the Miami Marlins in the first round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

After a five-year tenure with the Cleveland Guardians, Naylor was traded to the Diamondbacks in the 2024 offseason in exchange for pitcher Slade Cecconi and a Competitive Balance Round B draft pick. He was acquired to fill the void left by Christian Walker, who departed for the Houston Astros in free agency.
The Diamondbacks have high expectations for Naylor, particularly after his standout performance with the Guardians last season. As an All-Star, he not only showcased his impressive power numbers but also played a pivotal role in guiding his team deep into the playoffs, making it to the ALCS.

During yesterday's game against the Chicago White Sox, Naylor was pulled due to right shoulder discomfort. It appeared he tweaked his shoulder on an awkward swing in the second inning, and by the fourth inning, after a groundout, he was visibly in pain and had to be removed from the contest.

Despite this setback, Arizona decided to slot Naylor back into the lineup today.
Diamondbacks fans reacted to the decision to play Naylor after being removed from the game yesterday.
A concerned fan said, "The training staff will find out in a few days that he has a dislocated shoulder."
Another added, "Not sure I like this. Take a day and let it rest Josh! Tawa has been great over there at 1st."
"We've seen this story before," said another.
One fan said, "Dude is made out of something different."
Another added, "He's crazy lol. You have to drag him off the field to get him out the lineup! Love it."

The Diamondbacks have been decimated by injuries of late—losing key players such as Corbin Burnes, Gabriel Moreno, Corbin Carroll and, most recently, Eugenio Suarez. Amid these challenges, Naylor's performance remains a bright spot as he's hitting .303 with an .824 OPS, along with nine home runs, 51 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases, providing a much-needed offensive boost for the team.

Steve Sarkisian Delivers Confident Message on Season Opener at Ohio State
Steve Sarkisian Delivers Confident Message on Season Opener at Ohio State originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns will open the 2025 college football season in Columbus against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Advertisement It's not only the top matchup of the week but one of the most anticipated games of the entire year. ESPN's College GameDay will be present and it's Lee Corso's final broadcast. It's the rematch of the College Football Playoff semifinal last season. Both teams will be ranked within the top five. The hype surrounding this game is warranted. The Longhorns typically have at least one tune up game to get rid of any jitters and get back to form. Although that won't be the case this year, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian sounds extremely confident in how his team will perform on Aug. 30. Sarkisian made an appearance on the 3rd and Longhorn podcast this week and dished on a variety of topics during the hour-long discussion. Before oozing confidence in his team, Sarkisian praised Ohio State. "This is going to be a heck of a challenge. They're a great team, they've got a lot of great players coming back. They'll have a lot of confidence. It's a tough place to play," Sarkisian said. "But we'll be ready, and we'll be motivated." Lakers Fans Upset After LeBron James' Reported Career Decision
Lakers Fans Upset After LeBron James' Reported Career Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. LeBron James delivered another impressive season for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024-25, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists—numbers that earned him a spot on the All-NBA Second Team and a sixth-place finish in MVP voting. Advertisement Despite James' standout play, the team fell in the first round of the playoffs, and his groin injury in April raised questions about the long-term approach of their star-led strategy. With the deadline for NBA player options set for Sunday, focus has shifted to James' contract situation. While rumors swirled that James would pick up his $52.6 million player option, some Lakers fans hoped he might reconsider this decision and take a pay cut to free up cap space for additional support around him and Luka Doncic. However, a new report from ESPN's Dave McMenamin on Saturday confirmed that James is still expected to pick up his player option for the 2025-26 season, which will limit LA's team-building options. Advertisement McMenamin noted: 'The only mechanism the Lakers are projected to have in free agency is the taxpayer midlevel exception, worth $5.7 million, because James is expected to pick up the final year of his contract for $52.6 million.' Fans have reacted strongly to the news. One wrote, '40 year old billionaire that wants Luka to rot with him until he retires.' Another added, 'You're telling me a billionaire who's 40 can't take a Vet Minimum so it can help his team sign players to win another ring?' 'This is why he'll never win another ring,' another fan concluded. 'He's so selfish man, he has never been a team player,' another fan critiqued. Advertisement 'The most uncompetitive GOAT we have. Give me Jordan everyday of the week,' a fan mentioned. 'LeSelfish,' another fan labelled the four-time MVP. Three Biggest American League Snubs From First Round of All-Star Game Voting
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. As done with the National League, it is time to look and see who some of the All-Star Game snubs in the American League were. While the NL had more obvious snubs, the AL had its fair share as well and here are the three players that were left out of the second stage of All-Star Game voting. MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - JUNE 23: Byron Buxton #25 of the Minnesota Twins walks to the dugout in the eighth inning of the game against the Seattle Mariners at Target Field on June 23, 2025 in... MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - JUNE 23: Byron Buxton #25 of the Minnesota Twins walks to the dugout in the eighth inning of the game against the Seattle Mariners at Target Field on June 23, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. MoreByron Buxton, Minnesota Twins Buxton is top five in nearly every offensive category among centerfielders and leads most American League outfielders in all those same categories. Due to the fan voting, he fell short of Detroit Tigers centerfielder Javier Baez and Los Angeles Angels right fielder Mike Trout. The combined WAR of Trout and Baez sits at 2.7, a touch lower than Buxton's 2.9 WAR this season. Buxton is finally healthy again and on pace to play his most games in a season since 2017 when he appeared in 140. That was also the last time he made an All-Star Game and hopefully his excellent play will be rewarded when the reserves are announced. Byron Buxton mashes his 18th homer of the year! — MLB (@MLB) June 28, 2025 Jonathan Aranda, Tampa Bay Rays Aranda is not a very well-known name around the league yet, but he certainly should be after the season. He leads all first baseman in batting average, on-base percentage and OPS. He trails only the Mets' Pete Alonso and Cubs' Michael Busch in slugging percentage among first basemen, making him the AL leader for slugging. Once again, his lack of popularity was his downfall, as the Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt and Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were chosen over Aranda by way of the fan vote. Much like Buxton, Aranda should see his name on the roster when the reserves are announced. Jonathan Aranda crushed this 433 FT HR. He's been the best first baseman in the American League this year.#RaysUp — Running From The OPS (@OPS_BASEBALL) June 27, 2025 Jeremy Pena, Houston Astros Due to the first stage of All-Star Game voting being fan selection, it is no surprise that a member of the Houston Astros didn't make the cut. No, Pena was not on Houston's roster when the infamous cheating scandal was uncovered, but that still looms large in the minds of fans when they are voting on who makes it past the first stage of voting. It is unfortunate for Pena, as he is in the top three of nearly every offensive category among American League shortstops and most likely should've received a nod over Bobby Witt Jr. He did leave the game Friday night after being hit by a pitch in the ribs but as long as everything is well, he should make the All-Star Game for the first time in his career.
