Domino's introduces robot to fend off seagulls and protect your pizza at the beach

Domino's has revealed 'Domidog' - a robotic dog designed to safely transport pizzas to seaside visitors, providing protection against seagulls notorious for stealing food at coastal hotspots. Whilst this pizza-carrying pooch won't be replacing delivery staff, the prototype is scheduled to launch this summer.
It comes after research placed seagulls amongst the top 10 irritations for Britons at the seaside. One in three confessed to having their food snatched and wished there was an easy solution to safeguard their snacks during their seaside visits.
Izzy Gardener from Domino's said: "Seagulls have claimed too many seaside snacks, and it's time we did something about it."
"We're always exploring new and innovative ways to keep your pizza as hot and fresh as possible on its delivery journey. That's why we're trailing Domidog this summer: a tech-driven answer to an age-old beach problem."
Before being repurposed as a pizza protector, the Boston Dynamics robot had demonstrated its capabilities in various fields, including search and rescue operations, assisting bomb squads, and advancing human-robot interaction research.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology, this innovative device can expertly navigate its surroundings using built-in sensors, stereo cameras, and sophisticated localisation technology.
Extra capabilities, including 360-degree awareness, allow it to effortlessly dodge obstacles whilst completing deliveries.
According to the study, the primary complaints about seagulls include pinching food (61 per cent), aggressive behaviour (50 per cent), and, in some instances, damaging property (10 per cent) or terrifying young children (19 per cent).
Izzy Gardener from Domino's remarked: "Thanks to this prototype, seaside visitors will have a sure-fire way to keep slices safe and secure at the seaside – without them heading off into the sky."
