Minchu cat, Mangaluru's latest internet darling, owns a home now
Mangaluru: In the heart of Mangaluru, a furry white feline named Minchu has captured the city's heart, and the internet's too. Once a regular fixture outside Fiza by Nexus Mall in Pandeshwar, where she would rest near the steps, Minchu now has a permanent and pampered spot to call her own—a cosy little house built just for her.
Minchu's transformation from a street-side resident to a viral sensation happened almost overnight. Her new home, set up recently, has become a hit on social media, with videos of the relaxed cat lounging comfortably drawing thousands of views and shares.
"The cat has found comfort, safety, and belonging here. She may be small, but her presence has brought immense joy to our community. We are glad we could do our little bit to make her feel welcome, because at the end of the day, it is these small gestures of care that truly reflect the soul and spirit of our mall," said Arvind Shrivastav, senior centre director of Fiza by Nexus Mall.

A mall employee said the cat has been around for sometime now. "We watched people stop by, play with her, feed her, and click pictures. When the rains started, we saw her struggling to find shelter. That is when we decided it was time to do something special for her," she said.
It turns out that Minchu has fans who have gone the extra mile for her. "Amulya, now a brand manager at the mall, used to travel all the way just to feed Minchu, even before joining the mall.

The mall ensures she gets fed thrice a day—morning meals by the staff, and afternoon and evening treats from her doting visitors. "She's become part of the mall's identity. She does not leave her spot; she owns it," said the mall employee.

Ahmedabad: For 35 years, Bholaprasad headed the rath yatra in Ahmedabad, commanding applause and awe with his majestic build and royal gait. At heart, he was a gentle, obedient giant who never let his mahaut, Jairamdas, down. Now, the pachyderm, who came to the temple as an eight-year-old and was an integral part of its rituals, is living out his retirement years under expert care at Vantara, having been relocated there on Oct 3, 2020. Bholaprasad's deep bond with Jairamdas was legendary. "He understood me and trusted me. In all our years together, there was only one minor incident where someone's thoughtless teasing disturbed his peaceful nature," said Jairamdas. "I don't remember the year, but the incident took place in Saraspur where Bhola was having his fodder when a person harassed him. Bhola was obedient and calmed down when I called out to him," recalls Jairamdas. Dr R K Sahu, director, Kankaria Zoo, too remembers the incident. "It was a decade before his retirement when Bholaprasad, who was teased by someone, got irritated and began running.
