Some oil patch execs say "drill baby drill" isn't happening

President Trump wants to " drill baby drill." But many producers in the heart of the oil patch have other plans — and some say Trump's trade policies are discouraging drilling. Why it matters: Many things affect gasoline prices. But producers' caution about growing output could limit how much prices at the pump might fall by helping avoid a large market glut of oil. Driving the news: The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas on Wednesday released its latest quarterly survey of execs in its region that includes the prolific Permian Basin. These anonymous surveys are hot commodities for anyone seeking the industry pulse. Threat level: " The Liberation Day chaos and tariff antics have harmed the domestic energy industry," one executive told the Fed. "Drill, baby, drill will not happen with this level of volatility. Companies will continue to lay down rigs and frack spreads," said the exec, one of several who criticized the tariffs. State of play: The poll of exploration and production (E&P) firms and drilling contractors showed overall activity contracting slightly in Q2, and production dipping slightly. Looking ahead, the poll's average of price forecasts is $68 per barrel over the next year for WTI, the benchmark U.S. grade, roughly where it's at now. "Almost half of executives surveyed expect to drill fewer wells in 2025 than they planned at the start of the year," it states. Large producers (10,000+ barrels per day) were more likely to see drilling "significantly" fall. What we're watching: Prices and input costs. If they drop to $60 per barrel and stay there, 61% expect their production to fall slightly over the next 12 months, while 9% see a big drop (see above). Twenty-seven percent of execs say the recent steel tariff hike will mean slightly fewer wells drilled, and 5% expect significantly fewer. Flashback: The Q1 survey showed that on average, firms say they need oil at $65 to profitably drill new wells. The latest outlook from the Energy Department's independent stats arm projects a slight drop in the second half of this year, and a slight annual decline in 2026. Yes, but: A White House spokeswoman said Trump is making drilling easier by rolling back "stifling" Biden-era regulations. "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill's tax cuts and full equipment expensing will further turbocharge growth and investment by oil and gas companies — another reason Republicans need to get this bill across the finish line and onto the President's desk," Taylor Rogers said in a statement. The big picture: U.S. output is already at record levels and the country is by far the world's largest producer. Trump's "dominance" agenda includes more drilling access in offshore areas and Alaska. But those are very long-term projects. Today's economic picture, combined with shale producers' focus on capital discipline and shareholder payouts, is working against near-term growth.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. President Donald Trump lashed out at the House Republican holdouts on his One, Big, Beautiful Bill as his July 4 deadline fast approaches. The bill's multi-trillion-dollar expansion of the federal deficit is a key concern for the few Republicans in Congress who remain undecided. The Republicans have a narrow majority in the House. "FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY YES VOTE. RIDICULOUS!!!" Trump posted to Truth Social. "Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove??? MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT'S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!" This is a breaking news story. Updates to follow.

Breakthrough Innovations Powering Mesh Gateway Networks

Mesh manages functions such as load balancing, routing, and security policies by serving as a point of entrance and departure for services inside the mesh. By requiring identification, authorization, and encryption for every incoming and outgoing traffic. Demand for dependable and seamless connectivity has grown due to the quick proliferation of smart home appliances including security systems, thermostats, and smart lights. Mesh gateways meet this need by removing dead zones and guaranteeing steady network coverage. Key Growth Drivers and Opportunities Increased Internet Penetration: The booming industrial sector requires a constant dependable, and affordable power source to ensure uninterrupted operations while minimizing production downtime, which is one of the main factors driving the market for captive power plants. Since grid infrastructure is frequently insufficient or unstable in emerging economies, industrial players are investing in self-sufficient power solutions. Rising Cyber Security Threats: Mesh gateway need is being fueled by a demand for stable and safe networks, particularly as cyber threats become more complicated. Mesh gateways provide ongoing connectivity between linked devices by offering solid, self-healing connection. Integration and AI and edge computing with mesh networks can mitigate the external threats and strengthen cybersecurity. Challenges The struggle in managing and sustaining sizable, dynamic networks, such as mesh networks, where several nodes communicate, route data, and modify routes in given time are referred to as complicated network management. Due to dynamic routing, the increasing number of linked devices, and the requirement for reliable security and performance, these systems can be challenging to set up, monitor, and troubleshoot. Innovation and Expansion Check Point Unveils Hybrid Mesh Security Architecture at CPX In February 2025, 'hybrid mesh architecture' was announced in Bangkok by Check Point that integrates with on-premise and cloud-based security. Major aim was the flexibility, allowing security to be applied locally when required and routed to cloud. Given hybrid model advances the mitigation against potential threats that consist of AI powered attacks. The model also supports adaptive threat inspection across diverse environments and workloads. Eero Launches Outdoor Mesh Gateway for All‑Weather Coverage In October 2024, the Eero Outdoor 7 access point was launched by Eero building a support Wi‑Fi 7 and deliver up to 15,000 sq ft of outdoor coverage at 2.1 Gbps. This device is for extreme environmental conditions and is rated IP66 and handles -40 °F to 130 °F, that makes it ideal for smart devices for outdoor purposes. With Includes PoE supporting it can connect to indoor Eero mesh networks. It also supports Thread, Zigbee, and Matter for efficient home integration and function. Device is aimed for widespread usage in reliable mesh coverage to yards, garages, and outdoor entertainment spaces. Inventive Sparks, Expanding Markets Companies must focus on enhancing product capabilities such as integrating AI for automated network management, improving security protocols, and assuring interoperability with next-gen IoT devices to fulfill growing demand across industries. Key players operating in the mesh gateway market include, Eaton, Honeywell International Inc., AsiaRF Co., Ltd, Schneider Electric, HDL Automation, and others.
