Turkish Firm Celebi's Plea Challenging Security Clearance Revocation Dismissed

NDTV7 days ago
New Delhi:
The Delhi High Court on Monday rejected the petitions by Turkish firm Celebi against the revocation of its security clearance. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Safety (BCAS) on May 15 revoked Celebi's security clearance, days after Turkey supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor and condemned India's strikes on terror camps in the neighbouring country.
The Centre on May 19 said the decision was taken in the interest of national security in light of certain inputs that continuing the services of the petitioner companies would be hazardous in the current scenario.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the central authority, defended the action, pointing out an "unprecedented" threat to aviation security.
Senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi, who represented Celebi, said the Centre's move was against the principles of natural justice and in violation of the procedure under the Aircraft Security Rules.
He said the Director General of BCAS ought to have given the petitioners a hearing after giving notice of "proposed punishment" and subsequently given reasons for their action.
Justice Sachin Datta on May 23 had reserved the verdict after hearing the submissions in the matter.
Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd and Celebi Delhi Cargo Terminal Management India Pvt Ltd oversee ground handling and cargo terminal functions at various airports in the country.
Celebi operated in the Indian aviation sector for over 15 years and employed over 10,000 people. It offered its services at nine airports.

Singapore is at ‘heart' of India's Act East Policy: Jaishankar

India will play an increasingly important role globally as the world "inexorably" transitions into multipolarity, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said after holding talks with his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar on Sunday (July 13, 2025). Mr. Jaishankar, who was in the city-state as part of his two-nation trip, also met President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong. Singapore is at the "heart" of India's Act East Policy, Mr. Jaishankar said after his meeting with Mr. Balakrishnan. From Singapore, he travels to China. India-Singapore relations were elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the country in September last year. "As the world inexorably transitions into multipolarity, India will play an increasingly important role as one of these major poles of opportunity," Mr. Balakrishnan said in a social media post. The two sides also decided to hold the third India-Singapore ministerial roundtable in New Delhi soon. The External Affairs Ministry said the two sides reviewed progress of the outcomes of Prime Minister Modi's visit as well as the second round of India-Singapore ministerial roundtable. The focus of India-Singapore ties during Modi's visit as well as the ministerial roundtable was to boost cooperation in areas of investments, industrial parks, semiconductors, infrastructure, skill development and connectivity. The Ministry said both sides also exchanged views on ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Indo-Pacific and global developments. 'The External Affairs Minister also met Teo Chee Hean, former senior minister and coordinating minister for national security and chairman-designate of Temasek Holdings,' it said. 'Their discussion focused on transformation underway in India and opportunities for Temasek to expand its investments in India,' the Ministry said in a statement. Mr. Jaishankar's visit is part of continued high-level exchanges between two countries and reflects the importance India attaches to its relations with Singapore, it added.

Buy or sell: Vaishali Parekh recommends three stocks to buy today — 14 July 2025

Buy or sell stocks: Following a sell-off in technology and auto stocks, the Indian stock market ended lower for the third straight session on Friday. The Nifty 50 index ended 205 points lower at 25,149, the lowest closing level for the index since June 24th, 2025. The BSE Sensex shed 698 points and closed at 82,500, while the Bank Nifty index finished 201 points lower at 56,754. Despite the broader market's dip, Hindustan Unilever, SBI Life, and Sun Pharma emerged as top performers on the Nifty, demonstrating resilience. Conversely, TCS, M&M, and Hero MotoCorp concluded the session as major losers, bearing the brunt of the selling pressure. Trading volumes on the NSE cash market were notably higher by 13% compared to yesterday. The Nifty Midcap and the Smallcap Indices also witnessed profit booking in line with the benchmark indices. The Nifty Midcap 100 Index continued its downward journey for the sixth consecutive day, falling by 0.9%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 Index plunged 1.02%. Market breadth ended decisively negative, with declining stocks sharply outpacing advancing ones, as indicated by a BSE advance-decline ratio of 0.63, the lowest since June 19th. Vaishali Parekh, Vice President of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, believes the Indian stock market sentiment has turned cautious as the Nifty 50 index has slipped below the crucial support levels of 25,250 on a closing basis. The Prabhudas Lilladher expert said the next critical support for the key benchmark index is 24,900. Speaking on the Nifty 50 outlook, Vaishali Parekh said, "The Nifty 50 index amid heavy profit booking plunged below the important support zone of 25,250 level with bias slightly becoming weak and has the next crucial support near 24,900 zone of the significant 50-EMA level, which needs to be sustained to maintain the overall trend intact. Volatility in the index shall continue with the ongoing results season. On the upside, as mentioned earlier, a decisive breach above the 25,650 zone is necessary to trigger fresh upward movement in the coming days." "The Bank Nifty index witnessed some erosion in the morning session but consolidated thereafter to end near the 56,750 zone with bias still maintained intact, having the crucial support positioned near the 56,000 level, which needs to be sustained as of now. At the same time, the index would need to breach above the resistance level of 57,600 and expect fresh higher targets of 58,500 and 60,000 levels in the coming days," said Parekh. Parekh said the immediate support for the Nifty today is at 25,000, while the resistance is at 25,300. The Bank Nifty would have a daily range of 56,400 to 57,300. 1] Paradeep Phosphates: Buy at ₹ 162, Target ₹ 173, Stop Loss ₹ 155; 2] Godawari Power and Ispat: Buy at ₹ 186, Target ₹ 200, Stop Loss ₹ 180; and 3] NMDC: Buy at ₹ 69, Target ₹ 75, Stop Loss ₹ 66. Breakout stocks buy or sell: The Indian stock market closed sharply lower on Friday, July 11, as escalating tensions from the US-led trade war and a disappointing start to the Q1 earnings season weighed heavily on investor sentiment. Among broader indices, the BSE Midcap index slipped 0.65 per cent, and the Smallcap index declined by 0.70 per cent. Sumeet Bagadia, Executive Director at Choice Broking, believes that Indian stock market sentiment has turned weak as the Nifty 50 index has slipped below the crucial support levels of 25,250 on a closing basis.
