(Reuters) -Dutch chipmaking parts supplier BE Semiconductor Industries (Besi) said on Wednesday that its order bookings, an important indicator of future growth, rose 8.2% against last quarter as orders from Asian subcontractors for AI related data centre applications picked up.
Investors are banking on growing orders for Besi's hybrid bonding solutions and its first-mover advantage amid a surge in demand for AI-enabling technology.
Besi's CEO Richard Blickman said in a statement the timing and trajectory of the upturn was more difficult to predict now given the uncertainties around the escalating trade war.
"However, demand for advanced packaging for AI applications remains strong given upcoming new device introductions and use cases planned in the 2026-2028 period," Blickman added.
Besi said in February it expected mainstream assembly markets to start to recover only in the second half of the year, depending also on end market trends and the course of the global trade restrictions.
Its revenue was 144.1 million euros ($164.1 million) in the first quarter, down 6.1% from the fourth quarter of 2024, as shipments for mobile and automotive applications remained muted.

Interactive Brokers considers launching new stablecoin for customers

FILE PHOTO: Thomas Peterffy, chairman and founder of Interactive Brokers Group, Inc., speaks during the Piper Sandler Global Exchange and FinTech Conference in New York City, U.S., June 7, 2023. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File photo NEW YORK (Reuters) -Interactive Brokers Group is considering launching a stablecoin for customers, joining a number of large financial firms that are betting big on the digital token boom as the U.S. eases regulations around the crypto industry. The deliberations come at a time when the underlying infrastructure of global financial markets is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation due to the proliferation of blockchain-based assets like stablecoins. In an interview with Reuters, Interactive Brokers' billionaire founder Thomas Peterffy said the company is working on potentially issuing stablecoins, but has yet to make a final decision on how that will be offered to customers. Interactive Brokers, which is one of the world's leading discount brokers with a market value of about $110 billion, currently has a partnership with crypto platform Paxos and is also an investor in crypto exchange Zero Hash. Through these tie-ups, Interactive Brokers offers trading in various cryptocurrencies to customers. The popular trading platform is now working on enabling instant, 24/7 stablecoin funding for brokerage accounts, as well as supporting asset transfers for commonly traded cryptocurrencies, said Peterffy, who also sounded a note of caution on the risks of rapid widespread adoption of crypto. "It's basically hard to grasp its fundamental value. If we see people adopting it and ascribing a value to it, I'm okay with that, but I'm still not convinced," said Peterffy. Among the options being considered, the Greenwich, Connecticut-based firm could allow customers to use stablecoins issued by other financial institutions to fund their accounts, depending upon the credibility of the issuer. Stablecoins are blockchain-based tokens acting as a proxy for an asset that allow people to move money across borders without interacting with the banking system. Critics have warned that this makes them useful for criminals who want to avoid banks' anti-money laundering checks. Online brokerage firm Robinhood recently launched a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar called the Global Dollar Network through a consortium that included other crypto platforms like Kraken and Galaxy Digital. The Global Dollar Network is based around a stablecoin called USDG, which is issued by Paxos. Interactive Brokers, which last year launched a predictions market called ForecastEx that allows investors to buy "yes" or "no" contracts in response to questions, is one of the largest U.S. trading platforms with about 3.87 million customer accounts at the end of June, a jump of 32% from last year. Like other brokerages, Interactive Brokers has benefited from elevated levels of trading due to market volatility this year that was triggered by U.S. tariff policy. Its shares have surged about 47% since the start of the year, outperforming the S&P 500 Investment Banking & Brokerage index, which has risen roughly 20% during the same period. "We view the two innovations (prediction markets and crypto investments) as an effective hedge to any disruption in the firm's core equity, futures, and derivatives businesses," Morningstar analysts said in a note dated July 18. Malaysia's MMC Port lines up cornerstone investors aiming for October IPO, sources say

SINGAPORE: MMC Port Holdings aims to finalise its cornerstone investor lineup as early as August, ahead of a planned listing on Bursa Malaysia in October that could raise over $1.5 billion, two sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters. The IPO would be Malaysia's biggest since IHH Healthcare's $2.1 billion debut in 2012, and Southeast Asia's largest since Indonesian tech firm Bukalapak raised $1.5 billion in 2021, according to LSEG data. The country's biggest port operator, a wholly owned unit of conglomerate MMC Corp, is in talks with more than 20 potential cornerstone investors, the sources said. Cornerstone investors are typically large institutional funds that commit to buying shares before an IPO opens to the public. A strong lineup is expected to bolster confidence in the offering and lift sentiment in Malaysia's IPO market, which, according to LSEG, raised $751.2 million in the first half of 2025, up 17.9% from a year earlier. Both domestic and global institutions are involved in the discussions, including BlackRock, UBS Asset Management, Malaysia's largest fund manager Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the country's biggest pension fund, the sources said. The sources declined to be named as the information is private and discussions are ongoing. MMC Port and its parent company did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment on Monday. BlackRock, PNB and EPF also did not immediately respond. UBS declined to comment. Reuters reported in February that MMC Port's IPO could raise more than 6 billion ringgit in the second half of 2025. The company, which operates five ports along the Straits of Malacca, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, filed a draft prospectus with the Securities Commission Malaysia in late June without specifying the IPO size or timeline. According to the filing, MMC Port posted a 9.2% drop in 2024 net profit to 636.6 million ringgit, despite a nearly 10% rise in revenue to 4.36 billion ringgit. Proceeds from the IPO will go to MMC Corp, which plans to divest up to a 30% stake in its port unit. MMC Port will not receive any funds from the listing. ($1 = 4.2250 ringgit) - Reuters
